Kauffman Center Dining Experience
Phyliss is a gem with people and really set up a great evening. The food and atmosphere were great. Loved it all, little pricey but worth it! Great service
As usual, the food was really good; and the wine was incredible. Unfortunately, our waiter seemed distracted and stressed. We were erroneously billed for a half bottle of wine that we did not drink. My husband had to contact the chef about the error, and we were told we would receive a credit, but this could all have been avoided if our server had been paying better attention.
This dining experience was amazing!! Beautiful view with delicious food!! We couldn’t stop sending our compliments to the chef for the creativity and excellent pairing choices. In addition, the service was wonderful! I will definitely be returning!!
A perfect start to an evening at the theater or symphony, with great presentation and great food. Our server Ryan was an asset to the experience.
First time diner, and I thought everything was great! I’ll go back.
wonderful and eclectic dining experience! coupled with the sound of music!
The dining experience was great. It was my sister's birthday and we went to the restaurant before the symphony. We had the valet parking right by the restaurant, checked our coats all right there by the door. We will be back.
I have visited the restaurant numerous times since it opened. It is much improved this year and this was the best meal/experience I have had there and am very impressed.
3rd time going. Least favorite visit. Staff was timid and seemed not experienced.
Food was my least favorite menu this go around. A salad that consists of spinach, olive oil, and orange slices is boring and tasteless. Entree and dessert were pretty good.
Wine and cocktails are extremely overpriced. Wine is cheaper but noebody wants to spend $15-20 on one cocktail no matter how fancy it is.
Overall a good experience but I think a steak should always be on the menu.
We were visiting from out of town over the holidays. Everything was fantastic!
Just wanted to give you my feedback from dining experience.
It was very disappointing.
For starters We ordered carrots and cauliflower soup,
carrots was served extremely cold, more likely directly from refrigerator, had some grains on the plate as well --had no taste. it was like eating sand .
Cauliflower soup was ok but had No seasoning at all. nothing, no salt, no pepper.
Second dish was duck and ribs. Same as other dishes, NO seasoning at all.
Duck was too tough, ribs were good, soft and tasty. Side dishes should have been warm but to our disappointment it was cold.
Overall, we have been very excited to try "THE BEST SHEF" in Kansas but unfortunately after trying his food will not be coming back.
Food was good with great presentation on the desserts. Service was horrible. For the cost of dining here we could have dined 10 other places close by with a much better atmosphere and way better service. Disappointed doesnt cover it!
It was awesome! Great food, ambiance, and quick service!
We love to dine here before evening performances at Kauffman. We’re surprised at how many people aren’t aware of fine dining on site!
Great experience before our show, unique food with an incredible taste.
First time at Kaufman Center and we were so glad we took advantage of the Dining Experience. The staff was so friendly. Wonderful selection of wines and cocktails. The food? Fabulous! I had the duck breast and it was cooked perfectly and the flavor was wonderful. Salad to start and creme brûlée for dessert. It was just the perfect meal prior to our show.
Superb date spot. Dinner was excellent. Quite conveniently located for a meal before a show.
UPDATE ~ I sent this private note to the restaurant, but due to their inadequate response, I'll post it here, so future clientele can decide if they want to dine.
Original Private - "The flavors on the Winter Menu are good, however, execution could use some work. The funnel cake on the cauliflower soup needs to be a little bigger than the whole so as to sit atop, and be crushed into the soup by the diner, so it has a true funnel cake crunchiness/texture. As it came, it was soft and hard to cut with the provided soup spoon. I was warned about how hot my short rib plate was, only to find the actual temperature of the meal barely warm. I had to wait for a refire, watch my husband eat his meal, and then he watch me, so not really dining together, just eating at the same table. Same with the waffle on the banana dessert...waffles are crunchy, and these were soft as well. You should also offer more non-alcoholic beverages, and ask your servers to promote those, so we who don't imbibe have more and know all our options."
Kauffman Center Dining Experience - Responded Today at 12:50 PM - "We do appreciate hearing from you! It is not a lack of execution but specific choices we make in our restaurant that lead us to our careful menu decisions. Examples you stated are things that are playful and whimsical. The banana bread waffle is not an actual waffle, it is banana bread shaped like a waffle which is why it is soft and not crisp. We often try to look at common things present them in a different form. Spirit Free Cocktails are something we can look forward to on our upcoming menus!"
You can see no apology for cold food or inconvenience, and only excuses as to why they call something one thing, but their "interpretation" doesn't match what we all know things to be. Mushy, tepid food is not "playful" or "whimsical." Additionally the greeter wore too much perfume, staff shouldn't haul boxes through the dining room where people are eating, and paths by tables should be wider.
The food is quite delicious, varied, and creative. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was afraid it would be so-so because of the limited number of menu options. Not to worry. The small number of options manages to maximize the possibilities of s small menu. Everyone found dishes to delight. Both the small plates and three course dinners did not fail to please. I must also say the wine selection proved luscious as well. My only disappointment was the coffee, which was rather week, flavorless, and cold. I expect those deficiencies could be remedied by simply asking the server for stronger coffee. It was a French press, so one could easily put a little more coffee in it, and perhaps let it steep a little longer. Is there such a thing as a cozy for a French press?
Christmas festival and tried the restaurant and lived it
Excellent food and good atmosphere for an anniversary getaway. The ballet afterwards was outstanding...
Overall great evening! Server did a great job.
We really enjoyed our dinner at the Kauffman Center restaurant. The wait staff was awesome and the food was great too. I would highly recommend before a performance.
Accommodating staff. Very good food. Felt special but still relaxed.
Maybe one more entree. Not a fan of duck so only other option, short ribs...might have chosen a fish or chicken if available. Loved the dessert!
We found the short ribs overly fatty and mediocre in taste. The "new" dinnerware was obviously designed only for appearance and not for function. Things wanted to slosh out of the dessert containers, silverware wanted to slide into soup bowls and dinner "plates"...in general, we found ourselves laughing at the design.
The soup was tasty and the server attentive. Eating at a location that removed driving to the performance was the primary plus, but does this mean the chef believes there is a captive cliental?
We dined at the Kauffman Center restaurant before the George Winston performance with some friends. The food was great and the staff was personable....BERT
The seasonal menus just keep getting better and better! I had the carrot salad which was delicious and beautiful. For the main, I had the short rib and aligot. It melted in my mouth. My friend has the duck which looked incredible and she said it was delicious as well. Lastly, I had the banana bread waffles. I’ll be coming back just for those!
The servers are always so kind and welcoming and the cocktails are beautifully presented!
We enjoyed our dinner very much! The food was very good and the service was outstanding! It was so convenient to eat right before our show. A fantastic evening!
As always, Kauffman Dining Experience was excellent. Such a pleasure to park the car once and enjoy a leisurely dinner before an event. Wish the atmosphere was a bit more cozy, but it’s beautiful never-the-less. Service is always impeccable. Food was better than we have had in the past. Beautiful!
Wonderful from start to finish!
Service was excellent. They accommodated us even though we were late for our reservation. The food was delicious and served promptly. Our server Ryan did an excellent job. Highly recommend it for someone for a special pre-show dinner at Kauffman.
Celebrated a friend's birthday, lovely dinner, recommend splitting the three course meal unless you are starving, $12 Share plate but we were glad we didn't have to leave dessert on the table if we were too full to enjoy it. All courses were wonderful and the champagne float for our birthday treat was amazing, my new fave drink. Service was very nice and they keep track of time for you so you have adequate opportunity to freshen up before walking a few minutes to find your seat at the event down the hall, highly recommend this experience
Menu was interesting but difficult to understand, and the selection would not appeal to some. Server was not much help.
This is the second time we’ve dined here prior to seeing The Nutcracker. The service was great and the food was amazing. The short ribs were to die for and the chocolate mint dessert was fun. It’s a very good value for the atmosphere and convenience when attending a show.
Inventive cuisine well done...perfect for pre-show dining at the Kauffman Center. We enjoyed the entire meal from it's beautifully artful plating to the perfect portion sizes served up in this sleek and modern dining room.
Get ready to spend $40-50 (Preset menu) per person and be aware that the menu/option for kids is very limited.
Eaten there several times but overall not as good food or service and higher prices
Good opportunity to dine prior to Symphony event, especially with cold, rainy weather, being able to park in Kauffman garage, not having to be out in weather for entire evening.
congratulations to the chef! surprised by the chef’s food expertise & food presentation
A wonderful experience prior to the symphony. Food was served professionally, presentation was wonderful and we will be back again.
