Plenty of new restaurants are good, but few are actually memorable. Kali leave its mark.
the staff we found to be very knowledgeable. Very personal experience from beginning to end. The food was completely local which I loved as was the focus on the wine offerings and overall theme. The black barley risotto lived up to the hype and then some. I would only say that the beet tartare portion is "huge". Found it hard to imagine finishing. I tried. The dessert presentation was simple but elegant and I loved the egg white egg yolk story that led with it.
Amazing as always! This is my favourite LA restaurant. Tasting menu with wine pairing is outstanding and great value! An absolute gem!
Our waitress was fantastic, chef came out to say hi at the end. Literally perfect evening
Absolutely exceptional. One of my best culinary experiences, ever. Best regards to Chef Kevin and every single kitchen staff we met by he chef’s counter.
It's always a pleasure to dine at Kali. High quality, locally sourced ingredients and a talented kitchen combine to form innovative seasonal dishes. A compelling wine and cocktail list provide great pairings with the delicious cuisine. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. For the best experience, go with one of the two Chef's tasting menus!
I have been to Kali for dinner a couple of times and it is great. this is first time for lunch and it was perfect. great food and service but much quieter than at night so possible to have a real personal or business conversation.
would and will go again.
Great food and service!
We went with the al a cart option and had 3 firsts and 3 seconds and then two deserts. Overall the food was good. A couple of dishes were too salty for all palates at the table. The deserts were not that impressive and left the overall meal finishing on a low note. Worth checking out, but won’t be going back.
Outstanding. Highly recommend Kali. Exciting food expertly prepared with great service - an all around fantastic dining experience. Pretty $$ but worth it.
I had a pretty good experience there was a couple mixups with our food and we had to send some stuff back but otherwise the service was impeccable
We had a social/business gathering at Kali. It was a very cozy yet sophisticated environment. The menu was well suited for the mix of omnivores and vegetarians in the group. The noise level was perfect so it felt lively but we could carry on our conversations without screaming.
The chef and entire team were very welcoming and friendly.
Nice California cuisine with local ingredient. Many creative dishes with great wine choices. Nice for Vegan or vegetarian.
Great desserts and service, gelato never disappoints. A+
We had a good meal with a varied menu and pleasant service. We arrived early to avoid the noise, and found it quiet and easy to converse.
Absolutely a delightful experience. Food id exceptional. A find!
We had the Chef's Choice nine course tasting menu – it was fantastic. Imaginative, quite complex multi-component dishes, in general matched by great wine pairings and amazingly good value. All of the pairings were great with the exception of one which was only very good, but still worked well – but since the wine was the 2009 Mayacamas chardonnay, it would have been worth drinking by itself without food. Each dish was perfection and perfectly sized but four stand outs were, the very subtly augmented opening oyster, the hamachi with kumquat – a fantastic combination, the barley risotto and the most perfectly cooked piece of cod I have ever had. All of that plus fantastic service, where everyone on the service team seems to know all the details of every dish, whether they are serving It or taking away the empty plates after. I hesitated about writing this review since I think either the prices will go up or it will be so heavily booked that I won't be able to get a table again.
Food was excellent!
We had a lovely quiet dinner for 4 at Kali on Sunday evening. It was quiet only because no one was there. It's quite noisy when full. Soups were delicious, but chicken a bit tough. Do order the donuts for dessert!
Great food and service
Had a lovely dinner at Kali. The food was delicious and gorgeously presented. The service was exceptional. Loved it from start to finish. A few vegan options would be a nice touch for the menu. Lots for vegetarians. Trickier for vegans.
Delightful experience from the time you enter, taste the delicious food have desert and pay
Food was wonderful, staff and service were attentive and kind. Great night out with my friend!
Great food and service, chef John took care of us very well
The service was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The food was inventive and delicious. The duck was outstanding!
Very informative and polite servers with knowledge of all ingredients and sourcing. Also, there’s free parking on residential streets nearby, and that’s always a plus in Hollywood.
Impressive. Absolutely delicious creative food and presentation. We started with the crudo and pasta, then rock fish and beef. All excellent. Service was excellent as well. L
My daughter and I ordered the Chef's Menu with wine pairing. The service, food, ambiance... everything AND EVERYTHING was exceptional.
Out of three main courses, two were uneatable, bad quality of meat and fish, too salty, bad execution of dishes which sound promising but fail in taste. The chairs are uncomfortable, the service is rushed, the room loud and only two of the tables with banquets in the front towards the street are nice, everything else is torture. Unpleasant experience and expensive for what it is. Sadly.
Dinner at Kali is always a special experience. The ingredients are locally sourced and of the highest quality. The Rockfish crudo was as delicious as it looked - fresh, buttery, and garnished with colorful flowers. All the fish and pasta dishes were beautifully flavored. The star of the show was the dry aged Flannery beef hanger steak, with a rich nutty flavor accompanied by duck fat roasted fingerling potatoes. As always, the signature meringue gelato with cured egg yolks was the perfect ending to another memorable meal. The wine pairings were all spot on, highlighting the flavors of each course. Service was friendly and knowledgable. Kali is a gem in the Los Angeles dining scene. I look forward to my next visit!
I love everything about Kali and I keep going back again and again. It's one of my favorite restaurants in LA and Chef Kevin is brilliant. Always exceptional.
Kali has amazing food! The flavors are insane. I love everything about this restaurant. Been twice in one week already....
Had really high expectations for Kali so am bummed to write this review. We were a group of five, ordered four appetizers and three entrees (including the 32 oz ribeye for two). The burratta was mediocre - beautiful in presentation but lacking in cohesive flavor; hamachi was half a bite per person and the risotto (despite ordering an enteee portion) was maybe two spoonfuls per person. For the entrees we had the steamed bass (I really liked it), the pork (delicious but very very small portion). We joked about having to stop by jack in the box on the way home because we were still hungry but we filled up on the 32 oz ribeye and potatoes. All in all, an okay meal, entrees are far better than the appetizers. Total bill for 5 people with tip was a little over $500. I’d say poor value but okay food. The servers were slightly pretentious and the Maitre’d forgot to give my credit card to the server. Not a big deal but expected better service for the small portions and overall price. Won’t be back. :(
We missed the DineLA special, but I'm glad we finally got to try Kali. Excellent food, service and ambiance. We will definitely be back.
They didn’t have what I went to eat that day. So I ordered a fried chicken burger instead. Unfortunately the fried chicken was “huge” and couldn’t eat it as a burger. The taste was mediocre, too. :-( But the desert was very good!
This was an annual Dine L.A. birthday lunch for an employee whose birthday conveniently occurs during or near Dine L.A. each year. It was a gamble and we chose it for location and availability. The service was impeccable and every person who interacted with us was engaged, helpful and personable. The food was gloriously experimental and creative without being absurdly weird. Charred avocado and barley risotto appetizers were extraordinary as was the sea bass. We will definitely be back.
We came here for DineLA. The food was delicious. The only qualm we had was that they did not have the Sea Urchin Pasta. The DineLA menu on the website displayed that as a dinner option; however, when we actually went to the restaurant they didn't have it as an options so we were very disappointed for the false advertisement. The main reason we came to the restaurant was to try the Sea Urchin pasta with Uni.
It was a great experience. I liked the music wasn't too loud and their salads are so yummy!!!
Food was delicious. The flavors were so unique and enjoyable. Table favorite was the cavatelli pasta. Service was super friendly and was very attentive until around the end of the meal. We had to wait a while for the bill but this made sense since so many tables were closing out at the same time. Would go back and recommend to anyone. Amazing!
Unexpectedly good food for a place that has just a two hour lunch service window - was packed and clearly a neighborhood fave. Food was simply fantastic, plating was perfection. Will be back to try their dinner menu when possible.
Lively spot near Larchmont Boulevard, spectacular food and excellent, efficient, friendly service. Innovative food offerings, featuring local ingredients, great wine list and terrific desserts. Good place to go with friends.
