Kali is a small neighborhood restaurant tucked in between Hollywood and Larchmont village. Created by lifelong friends/co-workers chef Kevin Meehan and Drew Langley, the two have had always dreamed about creating a high-end restaurant without pretension. Stripping away all facades of what fine dining should be, Kali focuses strictly on the ingredient, technique, and service creating a casual environment everyone can enjoy.

We visited Kali during dineLA and I would say it was ok. The food was good but not great. The portions where tiny but the wine pairing was excellent. Our server was also great & caught a mistake in the order of the food so she was on point. The restaurant was busy and they kept leaving the back door open on a very cold night, had to ask multiple times to shut the door. So overall ok but not great for the price.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had! My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday, from start to finish the service was impeccable! Our waitress , Dina, was unbelievably awesome, she is what made this experience unforgettable. If you go, I highly recommend the chefs tasting menu, not a single dish disappointed, and for the price? You really can’t beat that much fine dining food for that price!! We will be back!

It's a delicious menu, full of unique dishes. The agnolotti was amazing, as was the sea urchin pasta. However, as a menu it was a bit confusing, esp trying to figure out what kind of place they were going for. Omakase Cali? It was DineLA so that may have had something to do with it. We went with the flow, and in the end felt it was a good experience, but I don't know how I'd describe it. Just, delicious?

Kali was a wonderful experience. Great service, food was interesting and well prepared with a couple of all-star dishes. The duck and the Uni pasta are can’t miss.

Our server David was amazing and attentive and just lovely. He recommended the perfect white wine (I did not want red) to complement my rib eye, no simple task. We ate from the DineLA menu, where portions are small but every course was to die for, from the first to the last bite. Food was flavorful and unique and beautifully presented. I have eaten brunch here and it was equally as delicious and the service equally good (I think David was our server then as well). I would definitely recommend this place both for brunch and now dinner

The food a little too "precious" and nothing special.

Finally had the opportunity to try Kali and the chef’s tasting menu was everything I hoped and more! The standout dish for me was the mushroom XO with abalone - tender almost sashimi like abalone coupled with deeply savory mushroom XO sauce. It was a pleasant surprise to find out those shavings over the risotto were not just shaved truffle - rather a mix of cured egg yolks and squid ink aged for 2 months to make a “homemade truffle”. It was jam-packed with umami and I certainly didn’t miss truffle after tasting the fine shavings. The duck seemed to be a nod to Chinese duck with the pickled squash in lieu of plum sauce and the molé filled with warm spices like cinnamon and anise. The Flannery beef with black garlic ketchup and sauerkraut sounds like it would be overpowering but the sauerkraut purée was so mild and creamy! So delicious I scraped the plate clean. Finally, the luxurious (yet also light!) meringue gelato with cured yolks was a refreshing end to the night and is the dish that captured my eye in 2013 when I first learned about Chef Meehan’s work! So happy to finally try it. Congrats to the team for the well earned star 🌟

We have been trying to get to Kali for a long time and never seem to get there. Finally, we went for the first time during Dine LA 2020 and had their tasting menu, which included an amuse bouche of trout roe in a tart-shaped blini, an oyster with sea urchin, and yellowtail crudo as the lead in dishes. All were very good. The winter mushroom risotto was delicious and the ribeye perfection. For dessert, the meringue gelato with sugar cured egg yolk was stunningly rich and simple. We did the menu with the wine pairing which included some fun, original options. The service was excellent and the restaurant was busy. We will definitely be back!

As usual the food and the service (Jessica) was outstanding. We had the beet root tartare, the amazing charred avocado and the yellowtail crudo to fue for. Then we had the black cod and it was exquisite very soft light citrus creamy sauce was the perfect pairing. The service was professional and friendly. It was a great, chic and vibrating atmosphere. Bravo!

We could not have had a better experience. The food was some of the best we have had all year. We also had our children with us and both the server and chef could not have been kinder to them. Thank you so much for treating us so well!

It is a good neighborhood restaurant and a new experience for us from west LA. We tried the chef's menu for three people. Over all the eight course were good, one could see that the chef put some thoughts into the progression and presentation. We were asking ourselves which one really sticked out and memorable. Perhaps the pork lion? Some dishes need to be a little warmer or sizzling.

The service was attentive, but felt somewhat rushed. The servers did not take much time to explain the dishes, since they were rushing it through. It would be better to have the same server taking charge of a given table instead of of all of them bring out dishes. One should feel like being taking care of....

Without the wine paring, $170 per person (including tips) was more expensive than it should be. The room and deco were just OK, and can be a little more comfy and upscale. Some of the serving vessels/plates were fine, but the utensils should be upgraded, they looked inexpensive and did not feel hefty and comfortable to handle.

We had the $115 tasting menu. 5 courses. WAY TOO SMALL PORTIONS!! Basically pay $30 for an oyster, $20 for a butter roll, etc, etc. DO NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO ENJOY GETTING RIPPED OFF SOAKING UP TO LA DINING SCENE HYPE AND PAYING EXORBITANT PRICES FOR TINY FOODS. Our son had to go to In and Out Burger afterwards.

Food, service and ambience were good. But we were seated at the table next to the bathroom and I don’t understand why when the restaurant was empty. Kind of ruined my meal and I probably won’t be back because of this.

The tasting menu was hit or miss. Most things were served room temperature and we felt it should have been hot/ or even warm. A few standout dishes, but overall a little too expensive for what we got.

So disappointed by this place for all of its hype was just so average with really the slowest service. It took 30 minutes just to get a cocktail. We were seated by a window so cold we had to wear our jackets during the meal. The tasting menu was so so and the first portions so small that the 15-20 minutes it took between the courses just left us really hungry and asking for bread. The steak course was both chewy and so salty as to be inedible. They did refund us the cocktails when we complained, so I guess there’s that. Confused how this one got its Michelin start when you compare it to others like Hayato that are a totally next level experience.
