Very good schnitzels (came close to those we had in Austria last fall). Attentive service. Check it out.
Remember food and service being better in the past. Curry dish has too much red chili flakes. Felt rushed at the end. Endive salad delicious. Will try again to see if this was an off night.
One thing about Johannes is the food is always stellar and the schnitzel is a must!
This has for many years been our favorite restaurant in Palm Springs. Food is always consistently good, service is impeccable, and we like the intimacy of a smaller place. Not very noisy, we could converse across the table without problems.
Johannes is one of my favorite restaurants in Palm Springs and it will continue to be... but my experience on Valentine’s Day was not a good one. We were initially placed next to the noisy kitchen and an even louder large group until we asked to be moved into the main dining room. The service there was impersonal and felt rushed. The food was excellent but definitely not worth $100/person for the prix fixed. For $300 for two people (drinks and a restaurant added tip of 18%) I expected a lot better.
This was a Valentines bleed out. We have be coming to Johannes for over 12 years. Our Valentines Day dinner has ended this wonderful love affair. I made our reservation over a month in advance. It was a very disappointing evening. We were seated by ourselves in the area referred to as the kitchen runway. A hall of tables pushed against one wall directly in front of the kitchen. Very noisy and very busy.
The menu was a subset of their normal menu with a 50% price increase. With the pre-fixe dinner and one cocktail each it came to $300 for the two of us. It included absolutely nothing extra to commemorate the evening like a flower or a glass of champagne.
Matter of fact diners were not allotted any of the normal options such as their wiener schnitzel sauces nor an option for French fries. It seemed to be an unnecessary restriction as the place was not filled with diners.
It was such an unpleasant experience we left without have the included dessert. I don’t understand why restaurants have “special” menus for special occasions that include absolutely nothing special outside a 50% bump up in price for less than their everyday menu. Why does a restaurant have bad vs good seating areas? Just knock down that damn wall and open up the dining room and that would remedy the problem and create a better dining experience for everyone.
We have enjoyed Johannes over the years. Their food is terrific. But I think we will only return off season and definitely not on a “special” occasion night.
Excellent food, friendly and knowledgeable service, one of Palm Springs best restaurants
It was wonderful! The food is excellent
The food was delicious as always! Our server was fair however, the bus boys were wonderful. We sat in the back room which was extremely cold. All in all, I'd come back again!
The food is excellent and always consistent. Friendly staff and grate service.
Easily our favorite restaurant in PSP. We love the authentic food and the incredible service.
Great food and a unique menu. Schnitzel is a hit! I never saw so many varieties of schnitzel.
The service was very slow. It just didn’t seem like they had enough servers on a busy night.
Excellent food and service. A real treasure to find such a good Austrian restaurant in Palm Springs. A nice cocktail list and wine list. I come here every time I visit.
Outstanding food, global infusion of traditional fare made it interesting and different. Service was good. Had reservations but opted for bar seating which we would choose again.
Food and service are always excellent.
The chilled shrimp appetizer is to die for, and the Wiener schnitzel is always amazing.
Nice wine list, albeit a bit pricey.
Awesome Food, Service in Downtown Palm Springs 😎👏👏
Dinner with my daughter!
The “crispy duck” was not acceptable. In hindsight I should have sent it back but managed to get through it and not make a scene.
Excellent food and service.
Always make it a must eat when we are staying in the Palm Springs area. Never disappoints.
Our reservation was easy to make, and we showed up a few minutes early. Led to a table, we were asked about drinks, but not given menus. The drinks came, but the waiter who was for our table only a little later showed up with menus. The service was otherwise timely, and the food very good, but we did not understand the delay in getting the menus. Oh, well; we will undoubtedly be back!
The staff was incredibly attentive and nice
Waiter was fabulous food over the top great A must place to go. We will be back
Quite the nicest PS restaurant we have tried. Pleasant room. Great service, food and wine list.
A great arugula salad with prosciutto and cheese and pear. Wonderful chicken curry, which I have had before and always enjoy. Trio of special deserts. Attentive service, nice atmosphere. What could be better?
Johannes always delivers. Great food and ambience. Very nice option in downtown Palm Springs.
Schnitzel is as good as advertised. Rack of lamb didn't disappoint either. Service was great too.
Nice hidden jewel in PS central. Very good food & service.
I was taking my boyfriend, I had been there before but he had not. He loved it.
Seating in the main dining room is far quieter than outside the kitchen, where our party was seated. Noise, foot traffic, people bumping into our seats detracted from an otherwise nice meal.
Beautiful food and service - one of the best restaurants in Palm Springs
Had dinner there celebrating a birthday. The food was very good and food menu prices were not unreasonable but I thought that the wine prices were elevated.
weird .... the maitre d’ made NO eye contact with us or any other patrons entering he establishment - the decor/color palette is dated and needs to be updated. The two sitting options that we were offered (for a 5:45 reso) was the table nearest the restrooms or in the back corner of a back room with no windows... we opted for bar seating. Once that decision was made the rest of the evening was fairly pleasant ... the waitstaff were friendly and attentive and the bar menu schnitzel was very good (although a $5 surcharge for sauce seemed excessive). A chocolate mousse dessert special was not so mousse like - it was hard and chalky. Would we go back? Only if we wanted to sit at a bar for dinner .... and we’d skip dessert.
Excellent food and service. Our favorite in Palm Springs.
My husband and I had a nice dinner a Johannes. Highly recommended!
What an unexpectedly great meal. Austrian and Asian sounds weird but you can be as adventurous (or not) as you want. Loved the schnitzel and the daily specials.
We had a wonderful evening at Johannes! Great food, amazing atmosphere. Looking forward to eat at Johannes soon!
We had the NYE fixed menu. Exotic flavors and great presentation and service. We loved our dishes and service was amazing!
