Great experience. They were very accommodating with my many food allergies. Some of the best sushi ever. Romantic ambiance.
Everything was amazing and our server was exceptional!!
Monchong was overcooked even though I had asked for slightly under. Too dry!!!
I am a regular (mire than once/week).
Always spectacular! 🥰
The three of us had an excellent time at Japengo. Musician in bar area talented. You can’t hear him in restaurant so get there early and have a drink listening to him. Then go to your table. Be sure to request a table towards beach to get best views. Nice they have half portion options. I super enjoyed the hamachi watermelon app. Then did the curry seafood bowl. Sauce very tasty but chef overcooked fish so it was dry and that was big time disappointing, particularly for cost of dish. We had an attentive server from Maine. Did a very professional job but subtracted a star since she double charged us for the wine. Overall, would return.
Food was amazing. Our server was really nice as well. Poke was outstanding!
Great food; great service. Everything was very nice and resulted in a very special dinner.
Wonderful experience. Thank you, Bobby!!
Everything from seating and service to food to taste is just simply outstanding
Wonderful food, amazing sushi, delicious desserts, with an exceptional view of the Pacific Ocean. Our favorite dining experience in Maui to date. Amazing!
Liked the option of half portions for half price. Really liked the ribs and the cocktails. Beautiful views
We visit Japengo whenever we are in Maui - it never disappoints.
Had the Korean seafood pancake which was amazing. The sushi rolls tasted good but we're wrapped improperly. Very good desserts.
I always go here on my trips to Maui. I go to Maui 4-6 times a year and always love dinners around sunsets. Only suggestion for you guys is to market better, it’s sort of a hidden gem. Michael was our server the other day and He was outstanding.
Can't say enough about how good this experience was. Top notch restaurant, awesome views. Excellent menu prepared with care and expertise. The blackened ahi roll, pork belly and shrimp and the scallop and noodle dish were very tasty. Enjoyed a margarita which actually was a great pairing with the dishes above. It was hard to stop eating, it was so good! Great service and ambiance.
Es war sehr schön und der Service super.
Das beste Sushi auf Hawaii 👍
Great food. Very romantic outside. Excellent service. Wayne was a great waiter.
Disappointing visit this time. The specialty sushi roll was really good, but our mains weren't. My curry was lukewarm, and my friend's Chow Fun was as well. Our server was very friendly but maybe had too many tables(?). The service was a little slow. The restaurant was fairly busy -- not a wait for our reservation but pretty full. Both of us felt a little off later in the evening. After having been here twice last year and loving it, this was disappointing.
Unique preparations and some unusual dishes that are all tasty. LOVE that they do half orders so you can try 2 things. We had the Korean seafood pancake-very unique and tasty. Ask to have it cooked a little more thoroughly or it will be soft/wet in the middle (unless you like that texture). Loved the clams. My son loved the sashimi. Also very nice mahi. Table next to us had steak and chicken that looked great.
Great view from some tables. Stop and see the penguins if you get there before sunset.
Fabulous ! Beautiful vegetables , great atmosphere & quality!
Amazing food, beautiful view. Shari was our friendly server and took care of our every need. Thank you!
Great food & service. The fish special is always amazing!
Had requested sushi bar seating on the reservation. We arrived early, the first to check in, and the host/hostesses were standing around talking to each other about inconsequential matters, but when I inquired, they checked us in. We were the second couple seated when the restaurant opened, precisely on time. We didn't get sushi bar seating, but then, there is no seating at the actual sushi bar! Wonder why that's an option? But our table was great and so was the rest of the service that evening. We just ate sushi and had wine/tea, but that's still an expensive meal at this venue. However, the quality and amount of each of the two specialty rolls we ordered was outstanding! It was a very good experience overall. We recommend giving it a try.
I would go back for happy hour with live music but the restaurant is very expensive. Presentation is great. Blackened roll was more seared than blackened.
the service with our waitress Desiree was great we could not have ask for better service
New Years eve
We were recommended by a friend to come to Japengo. I was very excited, as I am a huge fan of sushi. We were so disappointed. I was shocked that we were seated before 3 other tables, yet they got served before we did (by the same waitress). She was very rude, did not greet us. We informed the restaurant when we made our reservation that we were on our honeymoon- she did not even say anything, yet the hostess did. I was very offended that the waitress went to other tables before she came and checked on us. The food took almost an hour to come out, and it was not a busy time for dinner. We dined after 8pm, with tables empty. It came to a point where we did not even want to finish our meal, but we had no place to go from here, so we stayed. She never came to refill the water or ask if we wanted more drinks. We had to ask the water man for silverware, because we did not have any.
The fried rice is not even fried rice- it is steamed and has steamed shrimp which was not good at ALL. No taste. No flavour.
I ordered a few sushi rolls- first of all, they were not as good as I thought. I was expecting excellent sushi. There were fish eggs smothering all over, that is all I could taste. I tried moving them off they were everywhere. Very disgusting. Again, the food was just dropped off at our table without someone coming by to ask if we were ok...
Such a disappointment for such a large price! I would never recommend this place! I regret wasting one of my nights here.
Overall, the food was nice, but nothing blew us away, and we ordered a dozen or so things on the menu. With regard to our food: Clams had too much lemongrass, ribs were dry and game-y, meatballs were just okay. Kampachi was chewy. Maguro sashimi was very good, but tough. Fried rice was yummy and the rainbow roll was decent. The service was good, but not breathtaking. We had a much better experience from top to bottom at Son’z Steakhouse in the hotel a few nights ago. As far as sushi goes, we had much better sushi at Sansei in Kapalua. The ambience was gorgeous, and we cannot complain about the view. We won’t be back though. Of all the great restaurants on the island, we don’t want to be underwhelmed for the price of $250 for four people.
Awesome food and service!
Seaweed salad frozen, lobster special a joke. Two tiny pieces of lobster for $52. Beautiful restaurant and View.
Great food and service!
Food great our server not
We were here for our anniversary . Food was decent very few vegetarian options. Drinks were good
Our second time here and it was great like the first time. Service was very good, pacing of dishes being brought out was perfect and the location is perfect! Definitely recommend!
Amazing food as usual. I always come here whenever I’m in Maui. The malasada dessert was amazing. Sushi just melts in your mouth and you cannot beat the view.
Great server good food reasonably price
Their sushi just wasn’t very good. It tasted like a lot of fast sushi takeaway places.
excellent in all categories, go at sunset--sit at the ocean side
We just can’t say enough Good about this restaurant! Fabulous ocean front with a view of Lanai, our host, Jimmy, Always finds an excellent table for our party, and Carrie is the Best friendly and sweet server with great suggestions, impeccable timing and spot on efficiency. And, of course, the food is amazing Asian Fusion...the Korean pancakes are out of this world, and the fresh, specialty sushi rolls are superb in taste, freshness and quality. On the West side of Maui, it is hard to beat this restaurant in the Hyatt. !
The sushi was absolutely amazing. We had three rolls - Chef’s Special Roll, Rising Sun Roll, and Fujin Roll between two people and it was more than we could eat. Everything was incredibly fresh and tasty.
Don’t miss the curry dusted calamari. Amazing.
