Has been years since we’ve been at J Gilbert’s so we chose it to celebrate our 40th anniversary! Food was excellent and the service was very good too. The quality of the steaks was very good and a noticeable difference from the chain steakhouses. Had a great evening

We come there for all special occasions in the family. The one time in the past 20 years that we strayed to another restaurant (Capitol Grill on the Plaza), we sorely regretted it. Usually, the birthday meal would come with a free dessert but this time all we got was a birthday candle in an empty tin cup.....I guess they were cutting back due to inflation. The prices have increased almost 25% on the meal that we usually order since we started coming there..........inflation, I guess. Thank you, Joe Biden!

My filet ordered medium was dry, otherwise side dishes and ceasar salad were good. Server, St John, was a little over the top and had to be reminded to bring lemon, a straw, and ice for iced tea. Toward the end of the evening, the noise level was loud and had to visit.

Arrived with great expectations with a great first impression. The server did a great job, food was delivered quickly and to the correct temp. However, table was under a very bright track light leaving a feeling unconducive to a romantic anniversary night. I would expect at least a candle on the table if I am spending $100 per person. The food was not at all to my expectations. The lobster risotto and the mushroom risotto were egregiously under seasoned and in my opinion gummy and too thick. The sauteed spinach had large woody stems left on, leaving it very unpleasant to eat. What was supposed to be a rosemary demi-glace had no rosemary flavor at all and had a sweet and sticky taste and texture, ruining a beautiful piece of lamb. Crab cakes, crab bisque and scallops were excellent, along with the table side bread. However, I don t know we're to start on how awful the chocolate cake was. Overall for spending almost $200 for a table of two I'm not sure the quality of the food was worth it. For those prices everything should be 100% up to best class standards with little things like seasoning never being an issue.

I would've given a 5-star rating but we were unable to use my "Halfy Birthday" coupon. We made our reservations for a Saturday night, not realizing the $25 off coupon is not valid on Saturdays. How could we not know that, you may ask? Because the fact that the coupon is not valid on Saturday nights is way at the bottom in the teeniest-tiniest type ever. Buried where nobody ever reads. I'm glad our server let us know before we ordered. By the way Clay, said server, was fabulous--understanding, apologetic, and willing to accommodate us in any way he could, otherwise. We eat at J. Gilbert's in Overland Park on special occasions a couple of times a year and have done so for nearly 20 years. Clay is hands down the best server we've ever had.

This was for my birthday dinner. It was very good. It was beyond my expectations. I always enjoy eating here as a special occasion dining experience. We definitely will return our server was very nice and very attentive, but not overwhelming. We really enjoyed the evening.

J. Gilbert's is a classy, understated restaurant where the staff greets you as if you have been dining there for years, which is likely the case for many patrons. The food, of course, is excellent. The wait people are never too busy to make sure you are accommodated. I enjoy J. Gilbert's every time I go there.

J. Gilbert’s is consistently good. We travel to the KC area regularly and enjoy dining at J. Gilbert’s. Favorite menu items are calamari, filets, bourbon shrimp, sirloin, wedge salad and fresh baked bread. Highly recommend this Overland Park restaurant.

This has been, is and will be my favorite steak house ever! Brought my gf who had never heard about J Gilberts and she left a fan! I can not speak on their desserts as I have never eaten one. I am sure they are great. But the steaks are always melt in your mouth good.

J Gilbert’s is always a quality experience. Our server and the restaurant manager took extra care of us. When the server asked us how our meals were, I mentioned the filet was not cooked to order, but I would eat it. The manager came to our table and agreed and surprised me with a replacement filet. Great customer care!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. This place is the top of my Kansas City to do list. I have spent a lot of time and money looking for great steaks across the country and J Gilbert’s rates very high on my list. We spend 5 nights a year in Kansas City and J Gilbert’s usually gets 2 nights. I have spent 3-4 times as much for a lesser quality steak. I highly recommend J. Gilbert’s Kansas City.
