Had a reservation for 830 because this is my favorite restaurant so I was in the mood worst him mesquite chicken and the service is always great. But we were at a grandsons tryout for baseball and it ran a little late so I called up to let them know and she said no worries honey will hold it even though we’re closed at 8:30 so we arrived at 8:40 and they were as nice as could be. You really don’t get service like this everywhere. We had went to the Hurford house about three months ago and we walked in at 8:15 and they closed at 8:30 and they said I can’t seat you because we are closing at 8:30. So J Gilberts not only is your food great service is great and this is why you’re my favorite restaurant thank you!
I frequent J Gilberts but I am amazed that the person who delivered our food didn’t offer any condiments including pepper. The server was not at fault and once she was in our vicinity she offered and delivered (her service was awesome) but a restaurant at this price point ($490 for 4 people) and food runner isn’t trained to offer pepper on your salad or entree is lacking good training in my opinion.
Fabulous food, service and experience as always!
Service was excellent. Food was delicious and the chocolate cake topped off the birthday dinner
We've celebrated several anniversaries at J Gilbert's. It's always a treat. The service is good, the food is great. Highly recommended.
We spend each Birthday and Anniversary at J Gilbert's. We want the experience to always be pleasurable and we know it will here.
Food was excellent, as always. I highly recommend the Prix Fixe menu. I got the filet and crab cake combo. It was Sunday, so the bottle of wine was 1/2 price. You can't beat it! The only reason for not giving 5 stars for everything is that it was sooooo dark in there. I could barely see where I was walking. Also, by 8:10pm they had already locked the door. The sign said they close at 9.
We visited your restaurant for the first time on April 11, 2021. We were celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary. The food was delicious. We both had the seafood mix platter. The crab cakes were my favorite. The mushrooms in truffle butter were to die for. We even received a piece of chocolate cake as a surprise. We will definitely be back!!
The food was excellent and so was the service. Such a wonderful treat coming from a horrible 2020 covid year to a fantastic dinner.
The service would be better if wait staff would pitch in and help each other, our waitress had to individually check out a table of more then 10 people.
Food was excellent as always and our server was attentive and so friendly.
Great food as always, waitress talked too much
One of the worst birthday meals ever. Server had no knowledge of wines or what burbons the restaurant mixed their drinks with. Food came out rushed and cold in several of the plates. CRAB Bisque cold and tasteless....SCALLOPS cold and undercooked.....The list goes on .... J Gilberts has been a go to place for us but after tonight's travesty that distinction is in jeopardy...To end we got the $200plus bill and then was told we could not use our $25 birthday coupon because it was Saturday ...SERIOUSLY!!! Family's birthday celebrations usually happen on a weekend night when everyone can get together..
Not a big fan of the tv’s in the bar for this type of restaurant but a great place to go for an occasion otherwise.
First timers. Great ambience. The food was very good, but was not as good as the pricing would suggest. One of the two steaks we ordered (on our anniversary visit, celebration) was not cooked to order. The sides were ok, but not spectacular. The appetizer (onion rings) were great. The first course of house salad and chicken tortilla soup were amazing. Second course, good, did not quite live up to the hype and the wrongly prepared steak did not help. The desserts of 7 layer cake and chocolate velvet cake were decent as well. We will probably give it another shot, but the very high bar set through previous reviews was not quite met for a dinner for two for $150.
Birthday dinner, great cocktails, apps, steak, and dessert
Covid makes restaurants a little strange - I think crowds add to the overall ambience. The food and service were fantastic as always!
We are long time fans of J Gilberts. One of Kansas Cities finest every time.
Ours was a special occasion and the staff treated us to a special evening. Wonderful food and service.
J Gilbert's never disappoints. Absolutely the best steak in Kansas City. Staff is top notch. J Gilberts is the place to go for a special evening of excellent food and service.
We eat here often and the food is very good. Unfortunately our server was very cold and unfriendly. We feel at this price point the service should be great. Will think twice about going again anytime soon.
The service at J. Gilberts is exceptional. Our waitress was amazing! To be frank, every employee there is incredible for working on a holiday. The atmosphere was welcoming and This will be my new birthday place celebration, as the filet was phenomenal.
Always outstanding. The food the service everything at J. Gilberts is always on point. Great steaks and amazing desserts.
I've had salads at many restaurants in KC, but their house salad is an absolute favorite of mine and the ribs (who would have thought) are delicious also!
Delicious as always
Our Easter meal was perfect. This was our first time eating out since the pandemic started. When we arrived we were escorted to our socially distant booth right away. We felt safe the whole time.
Everything we ordered from the lamb chops to the crab cakes was so delicious. Oh and I can't forget the crab bisque soup and the creme brûlée. Outstanding.
We will be back sooner then later.
Our server Angel was awesome.
We had an Easter lunch. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. The seats are comfortable. The service was fantastic and went off without a hitch. The food is good. I had the filet oscar with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The filet was cooked exactly to order. The crab cake was relatively standard compared to most restaurants. The mashed potatoes were also quite standard, definitely not above average. The asparagus was actually very good, al dente with a subtle smokey flavor. The prices were high, on par with most 5 star steak houses. Because of the price the food could be better. The mashed potatoes could be more smooth and creamy, the crab cake should be more flavorful, and the filet could be more properly seasoned. Having said that, I would definitely eat here again. I’d give it 4/5 stars over all!
Have to admit it had been awhile since we dined at J Gilbert's. Actually, far too long. Turns out, it was just as I had remembered - welcoming greeters, attentive seating - and especially responsive, as usual, to a last minute addition to our reservation. Had frankly forgotten the fact that this place seems to hire some of the most skilled wait staff. On this occasion, "Jeremy" was our server and acquitted himself from the start. He clearly knew the menu backwards and was quite helpful in negotiating the wine offering as well.
The food was delightful, the attention on point without being overbearing, and the experience exceeded our expectations, both in presentation and value received.
The service, food, staff are consistently great! I have never had a bad experience there nor any bad food. You can count on a positive experience every time.
Great service and great food
The food was amazing and so was the service. Top Notch!!
Staff was incredibly friendly and the recognition of our anniversary made the night so special. Everything tasted incredible, and although it's pricier than I typically pay for a meal, it was worth the splurge for the occasion.
Always where I like to go if I want something a little more special. Had a good time and food was good
Great for birthdays, love the pre fixed menu and wine list
Very good food, we will definitely be eating there again
Excellent food and Service! We came here for out 18th wedding anniversary. Glad we did, perfect place to celebrate!!
Went to J. Gilberts for a special occasion, the food was good and the service was attentive. I would come back again.
Wonderful in every way!
Superb dining experience. The food for each person in our party was prepared exactly as we had ordered. 3 of us ordered from the prix fixe menu, which is a great option. our server was excellent & the food came out surprisingly quickly.
This is why we dine here frequently!
Great place with excellent food and service to spend time with that special person in your life.
