About

Izakaya Den is Denver’s popular Japanese gastropub, modeled after the lively after hours establishments found throughout Japan. The restaurant is located on South Pearl Street and is the second restaurant of the Kizaki brothers, founders and owners of Sushi Den.

The menu is arranged in a tapas style, serving traditional Japanese small plates along with dishes infused with international flavors and textures. The more traditional Japanese offerings include sashimi and nigiri, sourced from daily fish shipments from around the globe, along with dumplings and noodle dishes. The global cuisine experiments with a bevy of different flavors including unique items such as Grilled Panzanella Salad (jumbo lump crab, toasted focaccia, local goat cheese, pistachios, plum wine vinaigrette), Kobe Beef Sliders (seared foie gras, pomme frittes). A gluten-free menu is also available along with a popular weekday happy hour from 5 to 6:30 pm.

Izakaya Den is straight up sexy. If you’ve been looking for a new date spot, you can stop looking.

Izakaya Den was disappointing. We came for the Nigiri, but all the fish was underwhelming. I've had great experiences at Sushi and Ototo Den, so it's probably just a bad night, but the fish was average. We spent $100 on Toro alone and I have to say, it was the most disappointing Toro Fatty Tuna I have had in Denver.

As always the wait between our monthly visits to Izakaya Den was worth it. The refreshing house salad, mouth-watering gyoza appetizer, and, of course, pristine sushi amidst Asian Modern architecture in a neighborhood setting. A Saturday evening well spent.

Perhaps we caught Izakaya Den on a bad night? Typically, we love the food, the ambiance and the service. This time the ambiance was good (upstairs atmosphere rocks), but we brought friends from Boulder and their first experience was lackluster. The downhill slide began when it took our waiter nearly a half-hour to take our drink order. He said "your drinks should be out real soon..." and then we reminded him that he hadn't taken our drink order yet. Doh! Finally, we got our drinks and thought that it would be a good idea to order our meals before he got away. We shouldn't have had to try to anticipate and circumvent poor service. Subsequently, the kitchen was out of my wife's preferred dish the Hamakama (understandable enough, I suppose) so she substituted Sesame Scallops. That dish and my friends wife's meal arrived - and my wife's scallops were severely over-cooked. My friend's and my Sushi Dinners took another half-hour to arrive, so my wife and his wife were finished with their meals before our meals were even close to arriving. So, our 7:30 reservation saw us eating in shifts until after 9:00pm. There was no offer of recompense, just weak excuses and self-promotion on the part of our waiter - in other words poor service with a "side" of BS. This was a sad introduction for new customers to Izakaya Den and a disappointing experience for previously enthusiastic and loyal customers.

Come to Izakaya fairly frequently. Definitely not on their game tonight. Service very slow and server disinterested. Food ok but didn’t have its usual flair in the sushi or rolls. Hope they up their game as some really good competition these days.

This was our anniversary date and the ambience was OK but it was very loud upstairs. We should’ve asked to sit downstairs where it seemed more quiet. I was hoping for a quiet booth but not sure if this restaurant had them.

Had a great dinner t Izakaya. They were able to offer gluten-free tamari sauce and make several rolls gluten-free! The sushi and drinks were amazing. We both enjoyed our dinner. The only negative was our table of 2 was upstairs was in between two larger tables of 4. Both parties next to us were louder which made enjoying our date night a little harder. There definitely shouldn't be a small table for two in the middle of so many larger tables! Everything else was great! Plan to come back but will request a table downstairs where the ambiance was much quieter and romantic.

We have been to Izakaya hundreds of times and we love it. However, on Sat. evening it was not the same restaurant! Our waiter was wonderful and explained everything so well. However, it took FOREVER to get our staggered rolls and sushi. It seemed very discombobulated in there.

Everything we ordered were great tasting. Wish there were more different kind of dishes for people who doesn't eat sushi. Also wish they will reimburse all of your parking fees for parking in the public parking garage (they only reimburse $1). It is in a nice neighborhood, I am sure you need reservation during dinner time, we went on a Sunday lunch time and it was almost full house.

We knew on our weekend girl's trip we wanted a nice sushi meal in Denver, and Izakaya Den did not disappoint. Everything from the cocktails to the rolls was absolutely delicious and fresh. The waitress did a wonderful job of pointing out the freshest picks for the day, which we ordered multiple of and did not regret one bit. The edamame was also delicious, with the special spicy salt. Ultimately the rolls and nigiri were some of the best bites of fish I've ever had and would highly recommend this place to others. Least we forget how HUGE and well decorated the restaurant is. Overall, great experience!

Izakaya is one of my Denver favorites and have been many times. It’s often a go to for me for special occasions or when friends come to visit from out of town. Love the ambiance (especially upstairs) and the food is so fresh. This was the first time I tried the sesame scallops and they were delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant.
