The Ono was great.
The white wine arrived warm
The pasta was mushy
making a reservation was very difficult
The location next to the Sheraton and the Royal Hawaiian is very convenient
Our meals arrived before the appetizer was finished
We would return hoping that the issues we had were COVID capacity related.
Service was really great, food was amazing!! I highly recommend!
Great restaurant! So excited to have had the opportunity to dine here while on vacation!
Food was good, very expensive for basically pasta with seafood. Was very loud. Had a whiskey drink and ice was melted and watered down. We would not go there again.
The service is horrible! The wait staff doesn’t pay attention to the details at all. I waited 45 minutes between my finishing my appetizer and getting my entree. I was there for 3 hours for a 2 course dinner. I have been to this place 3 times and only once was it a good experience. I will not be going back.
A great place to meet up with friends for drinks and dinner. Three only issue I have is with the service. Found service is slow and gets worse as the restaurant gets busy.
Would not go there again. Had to send the pizza back and the Egg plant was paper thin with tomato slices as the filler. Then we were charge $3 for ice and a slash of tonic in our beverage :-( No one charges for that. Would not recommend to anyone.
As italian that’s not a real italian place. Try some Hawaiian food instead.
Delicious food. Great atmosphere and service. Highly recommend.
We dined twice over a couple of days. First night was great — spectacular patio, good food, world-class service. Enjoyed it so much that we cancelled other plans to celebrate our 25-year anniversary at Il Lupino (which I mentioned in the reservation). Waiter made us feel rushed, rather than give us a chance to enjoy cocktails first. Then the waiter fawned all over the table next to us, perhaps because they were ordering a bottle of wine and we weren’t. Salad, which we had the previous visit, was soaked in dressing and wilted — waiter never checked on us, and we did eat most of it. Entrees came — I had 2 bites of mine (gnocchi) and had to stop because it was like eating a box of salt(BTW, I love salty foods but this was over the top!). My full plate remained, waiter still didn’t come by but did spend lots of time at that nearby “other” table. Finally someone asked if I was finished to clear my plate — I hesitated letting him take it waiting for the waiter, but figured the waiter wasn’t coming back. I said “take it. It is not edible because of all the salt. He said, “Oh.” When the waiter finally did come back, he asked how it was so I was honest “I couldn’t eat it.” All he said was “Sorry” and hurried to get the check. No offer of dessert menu, no acknowledgement we had a special celebration, no offer to adjust the bill. We paid, and in leaving the hostess said “happy anniversary.” I said it was very disappointing and she too simply said “Sorry.” I even contacted the restaurant, and 3 days later, I am still waiting for a response! We didn’t expect trumpets and red carpets, but we did hope for a more professional service and atmosphere. While our first experience was great, it would be difficult to return based on our second experience.
Mediocre food and location
Our food was excellent. My wife had lasagna and I had gnocchi. They were very very good. The giant meatball appetizer was just OK. It was large but did not have much taste. We were happy with the restaurant overall and will return.
Best Italian restaurant I've been to in Oahu
Front desk was rude
It is the worst place to go in Waikiki if you want to have a nice lunch or dinner. It is way over priced, waiters are incompetent (could not remember which plates we ordered and which plates we waiting for, also brought us wine at 9.50pm knowing that at 10pm alcohol was not allowed on table anymore due to coronavirus rules). Food quality is awful and portion are very tiny.
Overall it is a terrible restaurant!
Valentine’s Day date. Showed up at 6:30 with a 6:30 reservation and waited in a 30 minute line. Sat down around 7 and then became aware that it was a fixed menu which was not clear in advance but it looked good so we stayed. Server was fine and a bit slow but nbd at that point since we already waited 30 minutes. Food overall was decent but not even close to the quality expected when spending this kind of money. Service was also mediocre, drinks were slow and one entree was delivered 20 minutes before the next during a couples dinner. I would’ve gladly payed $100 for this meal, the $350 I paid was just terrible. Unfortunately would not recommend this place to anyone. And the bathrooms were atrocious!! Place couldn’t even get the little things right.
I found the experience at Il Lupino very, very unsatisfactory. First, my wife and I waited for 30 mins before a waiter even approached the table to ask for a drink request. Once we ordered a drink, it took another 20 mins for the drink to be delivered. It took another 15 mins for the waiter to take our order off a 4 course fixed menu. I found waiting over an hour to place the order was a very bad experience. Once the food came, dishes that were supposed to be very warm/hot, were luke warm at best. Some ingredients that were supposed to be on my wife's appetizer were missing. Given the high price ($125) of this fixed price menu, I would have expected much better service from the waitstaff and much better quality of food. Again, I found the experience of dining at Il Lupino to be very, very unsatisfactory and I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I will never dine at this restaurant again.
The food is good. They still provide take out service and that apparently takes precedence to your time at the restaurant. The value of our meal was not worth 1/4 of the experience. Very slow service and unsympathetic management. One of the worst experiences I’ve had at a restaurant.
We went for Valentine’s Day dinner the night before. There was only the prix fixe menu to choose from. It was a lovely experience. The staff was lovely, attentive and knowledgeable. But for the price we paid, we were unhappy with our meal. It would have been a really great meal if we paid 1/3 of the price, but for what we paid, and we didn’t love every dish, it was just too much. I know it’s Waikiki, but still. The value just wasn’t there for me. Xx
Took way too long, like hours
very bad ! for San valentine say is expensive and really bad
Pretty setup on the table for a night before Valentine’s Day! 🌹💜
Food was amazing, just the little perfect Italian restaurant we were looking for. Staff was super friendly and very attentive! Enjoyed the night and we for sure will be back.
Very disappointed. Our waiter was nonexistent and food wasn’t worth how much we had to spend on it. Very disappointing and we wanted so badly to enjoy it
I’ve been here b4....4 years ago.
Understand this res’v was During COVID. Res’v was made, we close to seat”Inside” b/c it was busy for outside seating, We were the Only Ones In The Restaurant for inside seating .
We selected our table by the back open window, super special since no one was there. All was good... an hour into how dinner, the hostess placed a couple Right Next To Us... (super odd) since it was totally empty!
Restaurant management needssss to be more aware of the world today! Open eyes to the obvious.
I give the Service and Server 5stars... management needs work.
Great experience, but thought I would receive a birthday sweet at the end of our meal.
Wonderful ambiance on the patio. Umbrella lights, tiki torches, lush tropical landscaping, water fall wall adding white noise to the setting. Upscale feel to the experience with decent pricing. While there were many intriguing menu offerrings, we chose to have a simple pizza. The pizza was delicious. We had a gluten free crust, which was 12" after cooking, rather than the normal 16" crust, and when we expressed our disappointment in the discrepancy, the waitstaff and manager were prompt and exceedingly gracious in their efforts to ammend the situation. We were happy we chose this fine establishment for our last dinner in waikiki.
Our waiter was a bit annoying, seeming to want to upsell everything and hovered a bit too much at the end of our meal. We brought it to his attention that we found a shard of plastic in the Caesar Salad, but he showed no empathy and didn't discount it from the bill.
It's conveniently located and the outdoor seating is really lovely! Great Italian meal!
We have been to Il Lupino many times while on vacation but this by far has been our worse dining experience. We arrived on time 5.40 and were seated at the outside bar to enjoy Happy Hour drinks. We ordered 2 Prosecco, 1 old fashioned drink & beer & both times service took over 15 minutes for being served We asked other servers & the hostess about the drinks & they said they would look into while other tables were getting their drinks. Finally they arrived. It was almost 6:45 and we wanted to be seated at our reserved table. We requested our check & saw the charges were regular not Happy hour. The waitress was new & very apologetic and we told her it was ok & we went to our table. Attila was our waiter very personable and great service but the food was mediocre at best. My husband ordered spaghetti and requested plain spaghetti with butter on the side with the meal ball and I ordered the fish with piccata sauce & potatoes. Great choices so we thought. The spaghetti came with garlic and chili flakes and olive oil not what he ordered and there was an upcharge for his special request. The piece of fish was incredibly small for the high menu price and flavor was okay- very disappointing for local Hawaiian fish. We ordered the NY cheesecake expecting it to be the same as Wolfgangs (same owner) but no where close. We however enjoyed the expresso and the wine. This meal was $160 excluding tip and frankly the quality and quantity of food was not worth it. We acknowledge this is a difficult time for the restaurant business facing the challenges of Covid. For this caliber of Restaurant Il Lupino needs to up their game. We have eaten there many times in former years while on vacation and loved the food and service. This was not a good dining experience and the staff really didn’t care that we were unhappy with our experience. Management needs to train their staff to ensure that the quality of food & service meets the high standards their diners are accustomed to.
Pasta Bolognese and the Pizza was excellent! Wine pairing was perfect and overall service was great. Thank you for a wonderful dinner :)
Forgot my credit card so had to leave my daughter. Instead of making sure our food didn’t come out too early it came out and my daughter had to it there and wait for me for 15 minutes until o got back and the foos was cold. They didn’t even offer to reheat it disappointing. They should have put in the order later or kept it in the kitchen as they knew it would take me close to 30 minutes to get back.
The food is great here, and the Kama’aina menu excellent value - however, the overall experience is often let down by the service. Staff seem overstretched and that results in inattentiveness. We waited a long time for a drink, and again, to catch our waiter’s attention for a second drink. Shame really. If you can tolerate this, it’s worth a visit.
Really just awful. Worst Italian we’ve ever had. Plus terrible service and a waiver that overcharged.
Great experience overall! Will return in the future!
Poor service. Food great, wine good. Great atmosphere
Went for the outside seating and it was beautiful. Food was good- drinks okay. Staff was super friendly and service was good. We enjoyed our dinner very much in a beautiful setting. It was exactly what we were looking for.
Service and food were great. Ambiance was average, but would return for sure.
Everyone was very attentive. Our waiter was extremely helpful and courteous. I was a little disappointed that I had noted it was our 25th Anniversary, but I guess they didn’t read that note or didn’t acknowledge it because no one mentioned anything.
Food was great, ambiance was refreshing, especially since so many places are only open for takeout or delivery.
I thought we could choose the meats and cheese for the charcuterie, but perhaps the Happy Hour order meant they choose - I didn’t bother to ask, so I wasn’t too bothered by it. The octopus wasn’t on the Happy Hour menu anymore, but we still ordered it and I loved it. Great smoky flavor, a little chewy at the ends, but definitely tender as we ate into the larger part of the tentacle. It was served on a bed of dressed greens with Okinawan sweet potatoes.
We opted for just cocktails instead of wine this time, but we will be back to enjoy Happy Hour again with some wine.
