Very good food and service, high priced restaurant, however the quality of the food and the overall experience more than makes up for the higher prices
Excellent wild mushroom pizza from a chef who knows how to make classic pizza dough. The gnocchi malfatti were outstanding as was the light cheesecake. Altogether a memorable evening.
This was our second time back. The food is outstanding. The service can be hit or miss depending on who is helping you.
I have already recommended this place to several friends, and I imagine we will return before too long.
Best pizza in southern CA!!!!
Overall, this was a nice place for a little corner mom and pop type of restaurant. It was definitely a casual dining place, but the food and service were good. It is a good place if you want to get a quick bite of good food, but not the place where you would stay to linger as the ambience was limited. Good food and service though, so not a bad choice.
We went to Il dolce with our kids and we really enjoyed our dinne. The food was excellent , the restaurant welcoming, and all the staff were kind and very nice. The chef took time to show my kids how to make and bake a pizza. They loved it. We will definitely go back to Il dolce soon. If you want a really Italian pizza or a tasty Italian dish, I really recommend this restaurant.
Fun stag and great food! Pizzas are their signature dishes. Very skilled creations.
This is a regular dinner spot for a good friend and myself. I have NEVER been disappointed. Top Notch service and delicious food.
Wife had the Margherita pizza. Still hands down the best pizza in the OC. Tried something different, the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese with a $5 happy hour glass of red wine! Great restaurant with delicious food.
Amazing array of food. It was all delicious. We’ll be back again.
Andre was awesome. Food was great and the whole atmosphere was very enjoyable.
Absolutely awesome food....some of the best Italian (with a flair) I've ever had. Great casual comfortable neighborhood feel to the place. The service was incredible too...attentive but not overbearing and very friendly and welcoming. Thank you Andre! And to your parents for such wonderful food!! I'll definitely be back.
I just love the food... 😋
Amazing everything. Our sever was very attentive and the food was delicious.
We were in town on vacation and just happened upon this gem on Open Table. Food was delicious and authentic. Pasta, pizza and especially desserts!! Highly recommend! And go during happy hour and get some great wines for $5!
Birthday dinner with my sister and it is one her favs and now it’s one of mine. Service and Food outstanding!
Great spot for pizza and pasta. Family run business and they do a nice job!! Pizza crust is the best!
Il Dolce offers a pleasant dining experience. The ambiance is friendly and informal. The food was good and the service friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the mushroom and short rib ravioli. The price was somewhat expensive reducing the value proposition to only average. The background music was slightly louder than necessary.
So when I thought about this review I was thinking overall 4 star but as I started to think about the few things that annoyed me I changed it to a 3 star. I have been wanting to try this place so I made reservations on opentable and got in right away.
Sat in corner right by the corner of the street and I have to admit it was a little unsettling because if someone had a wreck on the corner you would be toast. Anyway let's start with the menu. Whoever designed this menu was not thinking of their customers. I am 44 and my eyesight is starting to need readers but literally I could not read the menu at all. Super small type and definitely all wrong font. Also on menu it says ask server for ravioli so I did and he rattled off like 5 raviolis that I had to remember. Why not just put it on the menu?
My husband and started with ceasar salad and I specifically asked for light dressing and it literally came out drenched with dressing, so much that I only had a few bites. We decided to order two chicken empanadas for appetizers. They were fairly good in size and were $3.5 each and were yummy! So since they were so good in size and we though it was going to be too much to each get our own dinner so we decided on the lobster ravioli. We got the ravioli and it was literally 4 doorknob sized raviolis on a flat plate. WHAT?! So we were still hungry and ordered another round of empanadas. I had two glasses of not very good rose and my husband had two bottled beers. Our total bill was $101. What the heck?
When you are a restaurant on the west side of Costa Mesa the prices should not be more than what you get at the beach, and for that matter I would get far more lobster ravioli for $28 too. Lastly you may not have to ward off the drug addicts in the alley where you park so I am not sure I will be returning at these prices. Too bad because the food was actually really good. Service was just ok, again nothing fantastic for these prices.
Great food great service.?. Just a great place
Best pizza around. We have been going there for years.
We love this family-run restaurant. The food is always wonderful. We love the casual atmosphere — feels like we are dining among friends. Even the street side location fits perfectly. This is a terrific spot.
It is a family business. From Argentina, it is food from the fusion of Italy and South America. All pasta is fresh done there. Pizza is all fresh made and hand tossed, and in a wood oven.
We walk by all the time going to the movies so we decided
To give it a try...... quality and taste was authentic and we enjoyed the food. We both think it lacked value for the price.... as both of our pasta’s were skimpy.
Great bread.... speedy service... we will try the pizza next time and one of the salads..... bottom we enjoyed ourselves to return for another meal.
Great! Food was good!
When it comes to Italian flare nobody does it as good as Il Dolce. Our top favorite for Italian authentic cuisine. This is by far the best Italian kitchen in Orange County. I'm so glad your here in the OC.
Good food, worst service I have ever received. Crazy overpriced for a strip-mall restaurant. Sorry I picked this place for Valentine's day.
Valentine’s dinner there...the pasta was okay. We ordered a pizza as an appetizer and it came out with the regular food...we barely had our salad and our entree showed up while we were eating it. Service was okay at best. All in all...great Pizza but I don’t think I will be going back.
An unexpected treat. Pretty casual setting but terrific authentic Italian food and was not so loud so I can actually hear the person across the table talking to me :-)
What a gem of a restaurant! Authentic, delicious, no pretense, just good food, good dining, and darn good wine and cocktails. I love a restaurant that uses real linen table cloths. The pasta is handmade and you can tell. Better yet, having recently been diagnosed with food allergies, I was pleased as punch to find that they have gluten free options, and not just the one penne pasta option. I had ravioli, and it was delicious. I'm going to try the gluten free pizza next!! Save room for dessert.... the panacotta is to die for!
This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is very good and rarely disappoints. The service is hit or miss when they’re busy, like last night. They charged us full price for drinks even during their “Italian happy hour,” which was annoying especially given how frequently we eat here. But, the gnocchi was very good and the apple tart was too. We’ll be back. If you’re looking for fresh tasty Italian food, you should check them out.
Food was great service was not very good.
Very disappointing meal. pizza was Doughy but burn on the bottom as if they hadn’t cleaned any of the ashes off of the pizza oven bottom. Very high corkage for a pizzeria with paper table covers and paper napkins. $25
Was looking forward to dining here, given the positive reviews, but the experience was not great.
Extremely slow service. There was only one server and one cook on duty.
The food did it come out until an hour after my party sat. The were only 3 other parties in the restaurant. The food when it arrived, unfortunately, gravitated towards salty. The batter on the calamari felt very dry and brittle. The quattro formaggi pizza was salty. The pasta pescatore was salty. The spaghetti carbonara was salty.
Amazing pizza and the very best gluten free pizza crust I have ever had!!
Pizza was not as good as normal-it was tough and crust burnt. The empanada was good however.
We love this wonderful family Italian restaurant and have been going here as a date night or with friends and family since they opened!!! They are personable, professional and the food is great. It is a charming place and one of our favorites!!!
Great food - Daughter in town
Enjoyed the Bisteca and Fries.
Great food in a neighborhood setting. We splurged on the truffle tagliatelle special, then had the delicious porcini ravioli, rucola pizza, and skirt steak which was very tender. Everything is prepared well. My only complaint is bread is not complimentary and we had to order ciabatta.
It’s like being in Italy! And they have a garbanzo based gluten free pizza, which is great for me as I don’t eat bread. Cocktails are awesome! I asked them to make it a little less bright in the dinning room and the place looked really romantic. It’s worth the drive to go try some house made mozzarella. The ingredients are fresh and the olive oil it’s the real deal!
