Hy's Calgary is a modern rendition of the classic steakhouse tradition. Pride of place is held by the circular, glass enclosed grill room, producing perfect charcoal grilled Canadian Prime Grade steaks. The horseshoe shaped bar is surrounded by lounge and dining spaces that are both spacious and intimate. The menu features classic and newly imagined recipes, but Hy's favourites, like the famous Caesar salad and Steak Diane, are still prepared tableside.     One of the nicest steakhouses I’ve ever dined at. Food was amazing, ambience was exactly what you want for fine dining, server was friendly and very helpful. Expensive but worth it!

    I always find Hy's to be the best of all the steak houses in North America. Amazing ambience and staff. The food is always amazing and so is the service. My last visit I had the bone in Ribeye 20 oz. While it was delicious this particular steak was rather fatty and had more gristle than I ever expected from Hy's, especially for the price. My friend also mentioned this but overall 5 stars. Not every cut is going to be perfect but over all we loved it. My parents were actually friends of Hy Aisenstat who I had the pleasure of meeting as a very young man. His legacy goes on...

    Disappointing Experience Given the Price I had the bone-in New York strip, priced at around $100. The steak was cooked properly and the quality was decent—but nothing exceptional. For this kind of price, I expected a lot more in terms of flavor and overall execution. The wine list was fine, and the salad was actually quite good. However, the service left much to be desired: cold, impersonal, and far from attentive. To be honest, I felt uncomfortable tipping at all given the lack of warmth or effort. The restaurant itself has a nice layout but is overly dim inside—it could benefit from more lighting to create a more inviting atmosphere. All in all, the experience felt overpriced and underwhelming. If I compare this to Gallagher’s Steakhouse in New York, which charges similar prices ( and it’s NYC not Calgary…), there’s just no comparison. Gallagher’s delivers on quality, service, and ambiance. Unfortunately, this place doesn’t come close. Wouldn’t return, especially not at these prices.

    Hy’s did not disappoint. We took our grandson for his first fine dining experience and his eyes were wide the whole time. Dino, our waiter, learned his name and provided so many special touches. The food is great, but the amazing service is what made it truly memorable.
