Hutchinson Cocktails & Grill is an American and Asian fusion restaurant serving up interesting recipes and creative cocktails. The decorating in the dining room is done with a dramatic flair. All of the décor is big, bright and bold. Hutchinson's bar is at center stage, a massive oak top that seats several people. Here, the bartenders serve up every kind of cocktail guest's can think of, along with many unique concoctions of their own.

The food is a distinct blend between American and Asian cuisine, specifically Chinese and Japanese. One of the most popular appetizers on the menu is the prawn lettuce wraps, which are massive marinated prawns in a crispy lettuce wrap with carrot and jicama slaw. There are also items that beautifully blend the cultures like the green curry fried chicken as well as the wood roasted cauliflower with chile, coconut and cilantro.

This may be a great place to go on a normal night, but not the place to go if they're serving a pre-fixe dinner for $85++.

This is such a great place for dinner. Had reservations on a Saturday night at 8:00. The atmosphere was very nice and the service was great. Food was VERY good. I loved the salmon (probably the best I've had) and the noodles my boyfriend had were amazing as well. Can't wait to go back again.

I came for Restaurant Week and can't believe I had never been in the past. First of all the ambiance was great! It's a very sleek upscale vibe and would be perfect for date night. The food and beverages were amazing! The sriracha corn was addicting and I came primarily because of the Mediterranean bass on the pre fixe menu and it did not disappoint...delish! The chocolate cake to finish off the meal was heavenly (not too dense but moist inside with a little crisp outside since it was individually baked). The server was very friendly and helped us all choose our drinks and meals since we were a bit indecisive. I was with a small group and we all agreed that we need to add Hutchinson to our rotation of restaurants in LA.

My second visit and it continues to impress. Brought my parents from out of town and they loved their steak. Also had to Mom Noodles and it was delicious- though very spicy if you need a warning. We loved it. Great staff, as well.

We booked dinner for a special occasion for eight people last weekend. None of our party had ever been to Hutchinson's before. The cocktails were absolutely wonderful and the food was great! However, it was our server who just ruined the experience for us. She seemed new and so her sarcastic jokes were just brushed aside. Everyone needs a chance to learn how to be their best at a new job.
At the end of dinner everyone paid and walked outside waiting for valet. Our server actually chased us down outside the restaurant to ask if we were not pleased with our service because she didn't get a full 18% tip. I couldn't believe that we were being confronted for a tip which was specifically $10 short of 18% of the bill. I couldn't believe the sense of entitlement this rude and sarcastic waitress had! I understand that wait staff make their living on tips, but if one person in my party decided her service was only worth 15% instead of 18% tip then that is their own personal decision. I cannot recommend this restaurant based upon this kind of service. I hope that future diners will not have to be subject to this type of "chasing down" for an extra tip after an otherwise good dinner.

We were really excited to experience an Indonesian steakhouse.
Hits: Really enjoyed the unique menu options and cocktails. And the food and drinks were very good. Hearty portions. Staff was very friendly.
Misses: appetizer came out after dinner was delivered. One entree was incorrect (though I didn't realize it until I read the receipt given I hadn't heard of the dish before). Wrong side dish delivered then added to check as well.

I think if theses kinks get worked out, Hutchison will be a great experience. I would definitely give them another try.

Every detail of the dining experience here has been carefully considered and fine-tuned; from the big picture to the little details, from the decor to the service to the menu to the dishes and drinks themselves, everything is of a very high quality.

To start the meal, my fiancée and I followed our waiter's recommendations for cocktails: respectively, a Scotch for Breakfast and a Micronesian Mule. The Scotch for Breakfast was complex, with a savory-smoky finish; the Micronesian Mule, served in a bottle (with bottle opener) was bright and fresh. Both cocktails combined full flavors with a (for lack of a better term) "clean" feeling, striking the ideal balance between sweet and dry.

Complimentary kripik (Indonesian chips) were lightly dusted with blend of spices; the spices on these chips, like the spices in all the dishes would order, were strong but gentle, complex, and remarkably well-judged: from the background, they subtly enhanced the flavors of the main ingredients. We tried the kripik with a cup of Mom's Peanut Sauce, which was tasty enough to eat on its own!

Mushroom Spring Rolls had great texture; Nasi Goreng was pleasant and satisfying; Brussels Sprouts with pork belly beautifully combined bitter, savory, and (thanks to a vinegar-based sauce) tangy. But the star of the evening was Beef Rendang -- generous, fork-tender, and perfectly matched with the coconut-milk curry, rice, and bok choy that shared its plate -- a complete meal in itself.

We shared a Key Lime Cheesecake for dessert, and found it as finely tuned as everything else: citrusy but not cloying, creamy but not heavy, and subtly enhanced by (we think) a little salt and (we know) a generous portion of toasted, shaved coconut.

Short version: The cocktails alone made me start looking for an excuse to return, and the meal only got better from there.

Awesome place. Everything tasted fresh and of a greater quality. arrived early with a reservation and was seated immediately. once seated the wait time was short and waiter was never too far away. For the price of things in the general area, i would say you definitely get what you pay for compared some other places that are similar. the drinks are great, try the colonels punch & scotch for breakfast.

Steaks were awesome. I like the steakhouse/ asian fusian. Went on a tuesday night so we had the place to ourselves pretty much. The manager and the waitress were really cool. I would definately return.

I have two comments with the food. The Indonesian part is quite good though may still improve with choice of ingredients. Banana's should be ripe and sweet. The rice should be better in quality. The steak part is not as good as I have expected. It needs to be more warm when served. The cocktails and wine are excellent and reasonably priced. The service is excellent and very attentive. I think the restaurant is still in its growing pains. Overall ok. I would go back for the Indonesian cuisine.

I had heard good things about this restaurant and it did not disappoint. On top of great food and service, the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. The interiors are beautifully designed and music sound level is prefect. It was great to be able to have dinner with a friend and not have to yell across the table. But the best part of the experience was the food. I don't drink alcohol so I ordered the house made ginger ale which was great. I started with the crispy prawn lettuce cups and the nasi goreng. The lettuce cups are amazing but the nasi goreng (which I ordered mild) was beyond anything I have ever eaten. What an amazing flavor and texture. I will go back just for this dish alone. For the main dish I ordered the bone in strip steak with the bone marrow bordelaise sauce. The strip was tender and flavorful. I ordered the brussels sprouts side dish for the strip. It was good but maybe had a little too much ginger vinegar sauce. I prefer my brussels sprouts crispy on the outside. For dessert I ordered the butterscotch pot de creme, and it was one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. It is incredible and the butterscotch flavor is subtle and not overly sweet. I would also go back just for this dessert. The service was a great part of the experience, our server, Aylya was nice, attentive and knowledgeable. She was helpful with our order and explained exactly how the steaks are aged and cooked. Dinner is a little pricey but worth it.

This is a great place for Indonesian food, and the only one with great steaks too. This place is a cut above every other Indonesian places in town. Of course, you pay for the high quality and service, but for a special night out it is worth it.

Loved this place. Have been waiting for something to open up in the former Spanish Kitchen space. They outdid themselves with the renovation - this place is beautiful. And the food and service were wonderful. Went or restaurant week and place very crowded. Hope this place does well as it is so close to home and a great spot.

We had the best time at Hutchinsons -- the food was innovative and comforting all at once! Great flavors, and each bite more delicious than the last. If you're feeling like a steak, but with a more interesting spin, this is the place to go! (Other non-steak items are fantastic as well.) The hospitality scores high, too -- everyone very attentive and friendly.

Large restaurant so environment isn't intimate or cozy, but a bit disconnected and sterile. Food was good, my steak was very flavorful, but $14 for a side of butternut squash? And $14 for Brussels sprouts soaked in sugar and pork belly? Was $70 per person and we brought our own wine. If pricing was more in line, and if some of the dishes were a bit more health conscious, we'd be more inclined to return.

The restaurant is named after the owner's grandfather and connotes a regular bar scene, but this gem is so much more. Hutchinson bar and grill is a family's legacy to 1960-70s Indonesia and the food is as exotic and masterful as any top restaurant in LA. The decor, although quite dark, is extremely thoughtful and depicts Hutchinson's grandfather's Caltech graduate thesis on the topology of Southern California. The food is exquisite- try the green curry chicken and nasi ghorem (?sp). My husband and I really enjoyed this restaurant and we will certainly be back.

What an amazing restaurant! All of the food is extremely fresh and of the highest quality. It all seems authentic and made with care and pride. The decor feels high end Indonesian with lots of dark woods and texture, very classy. The cocktail list is inventive and very tasty - many of the drinks incorporating hallmark Indonesian spices. The service was impeccable and very thoughtful. We are looking forward to any opportunity to return and try out more of the menu.

I took a friend on her birthday. I wanted to try something new and this place exceeded my expectations.
I made the reservation online through their website/ Open Table for 7:15pm. I stated the occasion and asked for a birthday desert for my friend. Of course, something had to go wrong and my date was running behind. I called the restaurant and they were able to accommodate us with a later reservation.
She had the Nebraskan Filet with a side of Brussels Sprouts and I had the Beef Rendang. Both were delicious and just the right serving size. Even though I had changed our reservation they noted the special dessert request and brought us their Valrhona Chocolate Mousse and again it was great! Great ambiance, friendly staff and delicious food. You can't go wrong!

Booked a dual birthday celebration at Hutchinson, and they did not disappoint. Shalamar was our host and he could not have been more attentive to our party of 6. Great food, vibrant atmosphere; will definitely come back.

We had a dinner reservation on a Saturday for four people at 9 p.m. Arrived on time, were greeted in a friendly manner and seated promptly. For a Saturday the place wasn't packed but there were patrons around. However, our first clue the night was not going to go smoothly was when the person pouring our water gave us a heads up the kitchen is backed up (not sure why). Our server soon followed in a meekly manner, not much confidence at all and not strong knowledge of the menu - second clue.
We ordered an appetizer to share (grilled artichoke) which was good (nothing special) which was served in a timely manner along with the bottle of wine we ordered. And it went downhill from there. Next to our table/booth was a large open space (not sure the reason for it) and also the bar. Not sure what was going on but the managers and wait staff were congregating in the open area discussing problems that were going on - information patrons should not be aware of. Also, we soon discovered why are server wasn't strong - she was a bartender.
After a long, long wait, our food finally arrived. FORTUNATELY, it was good - except one of the dishes had bok choy which was gritty and a side dish we ordered never arrived. Even though the food was good - we would definitely not return given all the other mishaps.
On the positive side - a manager appeared and acknowledged the problems and comped a bottle of wine.

I been in the hospitality industry since 1978. What the proprietors have developed for Los Angeles is unique and thoughtful. This is not a venue that will pop up and disappear, over time it will increase in popularity due to excellence in customer service, world class menu and wine list wrapped in a phenomenal family story and decor that is second to none.

Really interesting mix of steaks and Indonesian food. The recipes are the mom and grandmother of the two brothers who own the restaurant. Very attentive staff and the food is really wonderful! I also really like the way they changed the old "Spanish Kitchen" space into a cozy inviting space! There is a wonderful party room in the front as well with old photographs that the grandfather took during his travels as a young man to Asia, Sumatra, and Indonesia!

We were being seated near the door and it was too cold for my wife and she requested a warmer area which we received, however a bit too noisy. Then were taken into the back room where it was much more comfortable, The food and the service was just great and we ended up having a most enjoyable evening
