Disappointed— the quality of food and attention to detail has diminished. Our fish was dry, the green beans were over cooked, and the value was not there. The Prosecco was flat.
Creative and different from typical restaurants featuring regional cuisine. Great views. Delicious food.
Chef's tasting menu was just the right size portions, good choices, excellent tasting. Great location.
As always, the atmosphere was energetic and inviting! Our meals were beautifully prepared and the presentations excellent. The chef always offers specially prepared entrees featuring local fish and meats. Our waitress Tayana was attentive, very knowledgeable and quite charming! Thanks for a wonderful dinner experience!
We were all taken back when we found out you can't order from the walk up menu. Prices were extreme and dinner was mediocre. Fish dishes were all over cooked and dry and the portions were small.
I won't be back unless we go to the walk up side!
We have been dining at Hula Grill off and on for 20 years and it was always a go-to place for us. Our very average and expensive dinner last night has changed our attitude toward Hula Grill. The 2 fish special served last night was extremely dry and had little special flavoring. The serving was also very small compared to past years. Our local contact told us the Grill quality has been going down and we would agree
I was having a fun and enjoying the food, the waiter was nice (at first) he new the meals and recommendations were made. However, the food portions were to small for the amount of money they cost. The best part of the meal was the dessert. Then, the moment that ruined the experience was when the check came. Our waiter came over (he was older, had round glasses, gray hair, I believe his name was Joey) for payment like normal, he walked away I then noticed he was talking to another waiter a young man black hair, glasses, and Asian background. They started making hand signs that looked liked C's and they kept pointing at our table. I also heard him say that my friends were cheap sls that I paid to come have dinner with me. I looked at him and he looked at me he then came back and it felt like he slammed the check on the table. I wanted to thank him personally for the service and give him a tip, but after that I felt like he owed us the meal for being rude. We thanked him for the food and he stopped and glared at us then said you're welcome. I will never come back here again this was the worst experience I had at a restaurant. I will let everyone I know to avoid this place, unless they want to be called sls when you leave. Worst experience never again.
Superb food, drinks and service. Make reservations fod dinner (inside) or FCFS for outside on the sand.
Montana, our waiter, was amazing. We wanted a long leisurely dinner as I reconnected with a college roommate and he was attentive yet did not rush us one bit. Service was incredible. Food was delicious!
Great food. Our waiter was exceptionally helpful with selections. Great evening.
Wonderful table, service and food. I am gluten free and the server took extra precautions for me.
We really wanted to like the Hula Grill but it was very overpriced for mediocre food. The lobster potstickers were good. Shisito peppers not well seasoned and tasted like too much liquid smoke had been applied - a chemical taste. Snapper with pumpkin risotto was drowning in butter - and risotto was very pasty and thick. Kale salad with beets had very large pieces of curly kale served in an upright bowl which made it difficult to cut - and was overdressed. Focaccia bread was the highlight- light and delicious.
Can't beat the setting. The good is out of this world. Our waitress Carley was sweet and toiled us.
I knew it was a little more touristy which I can't complain about. Our server was very kind and attentive, but overall this was not a highlight of our dining experiences in Maui. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy coming here as the view is great and they do live music. The biggest thing for me was the value of the food - I live in a destination city where I am familiar and comfortable with paying for expensive meals, but for the cost of our dinner here it did not feel worth it. I ordered one of the fish mains and it was $39, the plate that came out did not justify the price (there was also a little crab garnish that did not smell or taste fresh) - I can say during my trip I paid similar prices for dishes that were excellent, in comparison this wasn't. All in all, I wouldn't deter people from going here but I have other places I'd recommend first.
Montana provided excellent service!
My mom and I had a wonderful dinner. Our waiter was extremely attentive, and the food was delicious. My mother said it was "fantastic and I loved it!"
My wife Nd I have always ate at Hula Grill. You can’t ever go wrong having lunch or dinner there.
We had a wonderful waitress and our fish entree was delicious.
We loved the food. Our server, Montana, was great. I recommend going.
Ordered the red snapper with Risotto. Was told by the waiter the snapper was the best on the island. Got the food and the snapper tasted more like a frozen fish stick and the risotto was sticky like sushi rice. My wife actually thought it was mashed potatoes until I told her it was supposed to be risotto. For a $43 fish plate I expected way more than what they served.
The food was wonderful and the service was great! Best Mai Tai so far on our trip!
entree was incorrctly prepared; bacon was left out
then waiter tried to just bring bacon for us to add about 10 minutes later to what was then a cold dish
shrimp bisque was pretty much flavorless and initially served cold
jalapeno corn bread was outstanding
really a big disappointment overall
We went twice this week, once for lunch and then back for dinner the next day. It’s a pricey meal but you get great service and high quality delicious food. If we find ourselves again I have no doubt we’ll be back
The food we ordered was very good. We would have liked a larger variety of fish.
The location and service was spectacular, but don’t expect good food...everything seems to be sweet, including the steamed rice. I know Hawaiian cuisine has some more sweet dishes but this was too much.
This place never disappoints! Service was excellent and the food is terrific. Highly recommend the short rib and jalapeño cornbread!!!
Not nearly as good as the last visit. I don’t know that I’d go back as there as there are many other choices.
Cool location. Good food. Wish the portions were a bit larger for the $40 per entree price. More attention to detail is always appreciated by foodies. The crab topped macadamia fish was a bit messy looking. Tasted OK, just not beautiful. It's good but I was not blown away.
Great Food and Best service we’ve had all trip.
I am not sure if it was an off night for them but we have had better dining experience overall. Their only saving grace was the delicious 28 day aged rib eye steak. Otherwise, we would have left even more disappointed. We have dined here before during the holiday season. This time, due to overcrowding, our party of 5 was seated at a small table meant to fit only 4 people. Service was slow. Given our small space and the amount of food ordered, I would have expected plates to be removed and replaced faster. Our orders were incorrect for dinner and dessert. We waited for over 20 minutes for our dessert. Though they comped one of the desserts, it is not how I prefer to end my meal. Especially on vacation with my family.
I realize it is a busy week in Ka’anapali but would expect more for a restaurant that knows. The food we did order was good (not great). They were out of a couple menu items and no bread as they ran out. We did have a later reservation and the server was as ready for us to leave as picked up everything quickly at the end.
I have been here many times and have had good service /food. This time I disappointed.
We ordered salad we have ordered before and it came out half in size. We thought the restaurant changed the portion of the salad. Half way through our dinner table next to us gets served same 4 salads. The portions of their salads are double of what was served to us. We did not bring it up at the restaurant but we left very disappointed.
Great meal in a wonderful setting along the beach at the Hula Grill!!!
The scenery was beautiful. The food and drinks were good but not great.
Wonderful lunch and our waiter, Rick was fabulous.
Great food, great service, great vibe...one of the best restaurants that we ate in on the island of Maui
Really bad experience here. We didn’t get any apps or salads for the first hour and 15 mins and then our server came up to our table and acted surprised we hadn’t been served anything. Meanwhile our kids got their dinners and were done before we even got an app. Then finally when our food came my dinner didn’t come out for an additional 15 mins past when the rest of our party got served and the server had put in the wrong order. By the time I got my dinner it was 45 mins past the time everyone else had gotten dinner and they were all finished eating. I was really unhappy and we asked to speak with the manager. He was very apologetic and tried to make it right by taking a large portion of our bill off. I was impressed with his customer service but by that time the experience was just not salvageable. The food was also mediocre at best and very overpriced. Disappointing because we ate here about 8 years ago and it stood out to me as a memorable experience
We got an early dinner seating and watched the sunset. Food and drinks were great.
Had many meals out on this trip to Maui, this meal was fine, but probably not at this price.
