Saturday & Sunday, 4:00pm - 10:00pm
One of my favorite restaurants. The food never disappoints and neither does the service.
Tips - Bread and butter and the salad are delicious, but don’t fall into the trap son. Taste a bite or two at most, stay focused. You need to be freaking ready to be Henry Eight, conquer that mug. Creamed spinach and potatoes with bacon smoked gravy and au jus running everywhere is straight health food since it gives life. It looks like a stuffy place, but not even close; turn up, have fun, be loud, clap along with some other birthday parties. Bring home that bone to gnaw on. Gordon Ramsey voice DONE.
The service and quality of the food was exceptional. The only downside is that the noise level can be quite loud and the tables were a little too close to each other. Would definitely come here again for another birthday or group celebration.
Pluses: Excellent meats. Solid service. Good value. Well priced cocktails and wine. Drawbacks: Noise and lots of bustling groups.
We had been looking forward to this place after hearing nothing but good reviews but this is now the singular blight in an otherwise excellent trip because of the way the servers treated us. We were sat waiting almost an hour despite our reservation, in which time 4 people came over to speak to us: 2 waitresses; the first we asked for water, however she then immediately went to texting within view of us at the bar, and then 30 mins later another waitress who asked us if we’d like some thing to drink - we said water again and then she went to the bar and chitchatted with the other waitress who continued texting. No drinks were ever brought. We then had two hostesses come over to tell us our table was being prepped during this same time period only to have them come back shortly and say this was incorrect, we’d have to remain waiting. The food was delicious but completely overshadowed by noticeably rude and forgetful service from multiple stations.
Love this place. One price for entree that includes salad and sides.
We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday this past weekend! The House of Prime Rib is the epitome of flavor, warmth, and excellent service. We had our school aged girls in tow and our server was just great in making them feel included. My husband loves prime rib and excellent service. This restaurant was perfect on both marks. We will be back for future special occasions. Our server was Shar. He was attentive, informative and kind. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Delicious, sets the bar on prime rib, and the value actually meets the price paid! House of Prime Rib is hyped up in a major way by everyone I know, and for once, it exceeded those expectations. Prime rib is my absolute favorite cut and am overly picky when it comes to steaks and prime ribs. From all the steak restaurants I've been to in the world, this was by far the best prime rib I've ever had. I don't eat a whole lot in one sitting, yet, the flavor was so good, I nearly finished my king cut. Before going here, I expected a meal for 2 with wine to go well above $200, but it didn't even come close. The value here is exceptional! In my opinion, it's a fine dining level prime rib without the exorbitant price to go with it. The service was as phenomenal as the meal itself too. The most welcoming, knowledgable about the menu, server staff of all time. For reals, I have zero complaints and so much praise. I cannot wait to come back again and I'm already salivating at the thought of my next dinner there!
This is my FAVORITE MEAT Place! Simple menu with outstanding, top-notch service!
We were a little rushed this time which is unusual for this restaurant (we were out in 1.5 hours). Normal table time is about 2 hours or more. I am sure if we had noticed we could have slowed things down. It wasn't obvious but, I was surprised when I looked at my watch and we were out so early in the evening. This is an expensive restaurant (about $100 pp including tip, dessert and one drink) so you will want to take your time there!
Great service and staff really took care of us dining out for the first time with our newborn baby. Food was delicious and relatively quick.
Excellent date night meal. Large portions, good value for the money. Outstanding service. Delicious food.
Where do I begin.. I can’t say enough good things about this place! Came for a one year anniversary date, and absolutely love prime rib. We had reservations (highly recommend) and were seated after about 5 mins. The server was very attentive and friendly, we felt as if we were the only ones he was caring for! The only complaint we would have is the noise level.. there was a party next to us that was yelling the whole time, but this isn’t the restaurants fault. Ordered the city cut (medium rare) with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. They begin serving you with fresh sourdough (to die for) and a freshly spun salad with amazing dressing. Don’t fill up on bread because the dinner portions are huge! Very well worth it. If you love prime rib, you won’t be disappointed.
A San Francisco institution! Make sure you come hungry because there is a lot of food and it is ALL delicious. The salad is dressed at your table and the little round loaf of sourdough bread arrives warm and fresh out of the oven. The Yorkshire pudding is my favorite and their creamed spinach has a little spice/heat to it. If you can save room for dessert, you deserve a medal but do try, because the desserts are all amazing.
We always come here when in town for a special event. We are always more than happy we came. They are not happy unless you are totally happy.
It was awesome. My favorite restaurant to go to for special occasions. Wonderful waitress!!
Great Manhattan served in shaker with “seconds”, a treat. I enjoyed the food but ambiance was not as expected. Crowded, half hour wait with a reservation, seated at small table in awkward spot. It was a fun throwback but once was enough.
Steven the manager is always friendly and makes sure we have a fabulous experience!
Exceptional Prime Rib meal. Service is fast and friendly. Very limited menu they just flat out excel by doing one thing great. If you don't like Prime Rib do not go there but if you are in SF and want Prime Rib I highly recommend making a reservation far in advance. This is a landmark destination for old school dinning. If you are looking for a classic experience you will like this place.
Delicious with wonderful service and ambience.
Thank you for helping us celebrate a birthday! Service and food was outstanding! We loved our server and the prime rib cannot be beat, no matter who tries to copy them.
This is the second time I've been to HOPR. I was impressed the first time I visited 2 years ago and so I brought my mom here tonight when she flew in town for her birthday celebration. This was unfortunately a huge disappointment.
We made reservations for 8pm on a Wednesday, arrived and checked in at 7:30, and wasn't seated until 8:45. The host and the manager knew that it was a birthday dinner and stated that they would be happy to give us complementary drinks (for the wait) and desserts (for the wait and her birthday), but once we were seated, there must've been a lack of communication because the waiter did not mention this dinner being a celebration at all, we were also not offered or given any birthday treat or drink on the house.
After we finished eating, the waiter didn't bother asking if we wanted another complementary cut nor a picture for the occasion, even when we asked if the waiter could help us take a picture, he said to give him a second to service another table, but then he noticed we just asked for a phone photo and so he changed his mind and took a couple of shots. It wasn't until I noticed and then remembered that other tables received souvenir pictures from the restaurant especially for special occasions. The waiter never offered that and overall failed to give us the birthday dinner service we were expecting.
Also we usually like our meat medium but unlike other tables, our waiter did not indicate at all that they actually recommend medium rare for their prime ribs. I only heard later on from another waiter servicing another table. As a result, our first cut of the prime ribs were over cooked and not special at all. So we asked for another cut that was much better.
All in all, man, I really liked this place but I felt pretty embarrassed for bringing my family to celebrate my mom's birthday here because the service was absolutely disappointing and did not meet up to any of my expectations.
The food was excellent and the servers are high energy and excellent. The only thing on the menu is Pirme Rib, with the exception of one fish dish. This is a very busy, loud place so don’t go if you want a quiet meal. You will definitely need a reservation. We were there on a Wednesday and it was packed. Waited for a few minutes even with a reservation.
My family, friends, and I love House of Prime Rib. It is our go to spot for any occasion, and actually, don't need an occasion to dine there. The menu is delicious, from the salad to the prime rib. When the prime rib melts in my melt, I know have had a good experience. House of Prime Rib never disappoints.
I’ve done here many times and as always very consistent with quality of food and service. Bravo!
Out waitress, Ina, was a delight and so efficient. The good was so delicious and prepared perfectly. We had a marvelous time.
This is a San Francisco classic! We have never had a bad experience here. The ambience is classic and fun. The food is always wonderful and plentiful. This place has a great bar and a superior wine list (something for every pocketbook). The service is excellent: from the host, to the bar servers, to the table staff, and (most importantly) to the carvers. We are here on a regular basis; try it and you will become a regular too. There are not enough superlative adjectives to describe The House of Prime Rib.
Vic our waiter was great!
Excellent food , wine and service.
The waiting area is too small and overcrowded.
Had an amazing time here with my family a few nights ago. It is more than just a meal, but an experience. The service, food, ambiance and everything overall was great. So glad I made the reservation a month in advance!
Loved it! Every time I leave very happy.
we were 30 minutes early and we were seated right away! there was a cute server (wasnt assigned to my table), tall dark and handsome. (:
This is not a frequent eating place for us, which makes it special. We were celebrating a friend's retirement, so a good, traditional place to dine was in order. There are no surprises here on the menu, just a good, slow-roasted prime rib dinner, with all the fixings to go along with it. There are seafood options, but we've never tried them to see how they are. If you come to a place called The House of Prime Rib, why eat anything else ? The level of service was excellent as well, from our waiter, to the valet parking service attendants. It's literally a nice slice of old San Francisco dining tradition. In spite of the sheer number of people in the restaurant, the noise level wasn't bad either. Our friend also approved of his cocktail (a VERY dry martini). It was a very nice evening out. Highly recommended!
First time I can't give a 5 star review - first portion too cooked; received the wrong style of tea. The creamed corn and the Yorkshire pudding are still the best.
The steak is really amazing. The juicy and softness is really different.
Very good! Great value, great food! Now adding extra letters to this review.
Our waiter, Joh, was great and made sure we had everything was satisfactory. I love this place. Though hate that large group avail abilities are so late at night (10pm). Pretty tough to make reservations in general... b/c everyone loves this place.
Spectacular service and delicious food!
very good dinning experience, the coctails a big surprise with the taste and the extra to keep enjoying and the star of the night Prime rib and side dishes , ask allways for medium well to enjoy the taste, Annesa help us to really enjoy the dinner.
thanks House of Prime Rib
Our waitress was excellent. She was very attentive and we were so comfortable.
I have been to House of Prime Rib many times, but this was the first time I was disappointed. They seated 6 of us on a 4 top table in a very crowded room, and some of the people at our table were larger framed. I am small framed and sat next to another small framed person, and we felt cramped and claustrophobic so I can only imagine the struggle with the larger framed people. I was also disappointed that my prime rib had no "crust" on the edge, as that salty edge is my favorite. It was as if someone trimmed the outer portion of my prime rib off. Also seemed underseasoned without that slightly salty edge. I've never had this experience at HofPR. The next time we will definitely be asking for a booth or larger table for hopefully a better experience!
