There is a lot of demand for this restaurant so the reservation has to be booked about a month or more in advance. Since this restaurant specializes in prime rib, they are extremely good at it. The service was fantastic. The wait staff go out of their way to make your meal enjoyable. The ambiance is exactly what you would expect of a no-nonsense steak house.
We have come to House of Prime Rib many many times and we’re very excited to be back! The food was delicious as always! There were a couple of things that made the experience a little frustrating though. 1) Prices have gone UP!!! 2) My son asked for half and half creamed spinach/creamed corn which was an option presented by the waiter. We were charged extra for that without warning.
First time for me and my girlfriend, definitely not disappointed. Creamed spinach, salad and loaded baked potato were out of this world! Got the king henry cut medium rare. Could not finish it. My girlfriend got hers medium. The part that was well done was a bit dry for my taste. Forgot the name of the dessert we ordered, but it was cheese cake, chocolate mousse and chocolate cake all in one slice! Definitely going again.
I love this place. Never had a bad or service experience.
The best prime rib I've ever had, side dishes are great, too.
Best prime rib I've ever had! Definitely worth the wait.
Quick and individualized service, plus superb food
Great place to celebrate a birthday! Will look forward to going back
I have been patronizing this establishment for almost 30 years. It is iconic and just an amazing experience. The menu is so straight forward it is unremarkably fantastic! The do prime rib and it is the best in the region!
Best Prime Rib in town. Good wine list at a reasonable markup.
Wonderful. Our server was top notch!
Best prime rib around. Disappointed that they have utilized all of the bar areas into eating areas. You can't even sit at the bar to have a drink. They got a little greedy and only serve dinners at the bar now.
The food is wonderful and our waitress was fantastic!
The waiter was great and explained everything since it was my first time eating here. The food was delicious and very filling. The complaint I have is the hostess forgot to check us in when I arrived 15 minutes early. After catching the attention of the manager he realized what had happened and had us seated right away. Overall I would have to say it was a great experience.
Excellent! A little crowded and noise.
Dinner was out of this world! Definitely will come back!
Great food! Everything tasted outstanding. Great service
Amazing food and service as always! We will be back next month! Loved our server Marcus and a great night!!
Great place for celebration and get together. Staff is excellent, very attentive and friendly. Very nice ambience. And of course, the food is perfect!
Great experience for my birthday!
Thursday dinner at HoPR. Things are hopping like the good ol’ days. Smell the Au Jus……Took Uber from Alameda so two of us could drink a lot of Grey Goose and Duckhorn. Darlene, our wonderful server, kept the drinks coming. Of course we both had the biggest cut, so juicy and marbled. Still the best deal in the city, a true landmark and shrine to the ways of the past.
We enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner at HOPR...our favorite SF restaurant with fabulous prime rib dinners. This is not your ubiquitous a la carte steakhouse. Dinner includes fresh bread, fresh salad, tender meat, delicious creamed spinach and top-notch drinks and wine list. We will see you again (and again, and again!)
Not the usual HoPR experience due to service. My husband and I brought our 2 kids for the 1st time since it's such a great place and we thought they were ready for the experience. There was a miscommunication with the waiter, we asked for our kids to split a kids meal since they don't eat much. The waiter asked which cut we'd like for the kids and we agreed the English would be best. Long story short, we got charged for a full adult English Cut instead of the kid's meal. We spoke to the waiter about it and he said sorry. Also we ended up pouring our bottle of wine and didn't really have anyone come check in on how things were going.
The dinner and service were excellent as usual! Best restaurant in SF!
Matt and Davida made our visit very enjoyable and memorable. The food was amazing and we can’t wait to return. Thank you to The House of Prime Ribs team members!!
Our party of six had a wonderful time. The food was excellent. The service was outstanding, and our waiter Douglas was terrific. A great evening out.
Best prime rib in SF. Worth the 2 year wait. Don’t forget to get your Manhattan at the bar, while you wait to be seated
Amazing Place to eat, highly reccomended. The ambience is cozy, lively and the food was excellent.
The best of the best. Joe Betts and team have brought the excitement back to dining. Quality first class. Best meal in the City!
We went to HOPR for my husband’s birthday in 2018 and had a fantastic experience. Not one complaint except it’s very crowded and loud but I expected it due to its popularity…then our subsequent bookings were cancelled due to COVID. We finally got a booking for my birthday yesterday and since our kids love their steaks, we brought them as well this time. Our first experience was 5 star experience from service to food. Sadly this time around it was a 3 so I averaged out our rating to 4. Getting to the valet parking takes some maneuvering. Not a huge deal. Just a little painful with all the no left turns. Once we sat down, the waiter mumbled something about our coats at the front…but he never actually took our coats so we kept them on our seats. Again, not huge deal. Husband and I got the house cuts like last time and kids got the kids cuts. Kids got a good portion but they forgot their included milks until we asked for them. Our house cuts were noticeably smaller than last time here 😕. Mine had a huge bone and fat. Husband had a smaller bone. I do feel they saw maybe I’m a smaller adult or maybe we purposely didn’t finish the salad (to make room for the main course) that they gave us a smaller cut. It’s a fixed price $51/cut so they should all be the same size. After I tried carving out as much meat as possible from the bone with the dull clunky steak knife, I gave up. The waiter actually asked if I wanted a doggy bag for the bone. I explained no thanks this is allll bone. They also charged us $.50 per ice cream for the kids dessert. We thought those were included??? We didn’t bother arguing about $1. Both the waiter and sommelier asked if this was a special occasion and we replied it was my birthday. After all that, they merely stuck a candle in the tiramisu we ordered and paid for. My kids sang happy birthday to me and our fellow nextdoor patrons wished me happy birthday 😆
Make reservations, arrive early(for parking sakes), or you can use the Valet @ $14., bring your appetite & order up! The salad spinning show, the Zeppelin of Beef is rolled over to near where you are seated & le voilà...your delicious prime rib is delivered within minutes! Did I mention Delicious? Flavorful & Tender. I will be returning & am getting the Henry the VIII cut next time (If you finish that, you will be receiving an extra small slice, upon request! The sides are classic pairing, the creamed spinach, the fully loaded H U G E baked potato or mashed, creamed corn, & the yorkshire pudding are absolutely wonderful! Bring a group of guests, the more the Merrier!!!
Be aware of the SF Health Mandate that is included on you bill...about 5%
First visit in over a decade, nothing changed meaning fab! Attentive and efficient service. Lucky to get a booth. Excellent martinis and reasonably priced wine list. The star of course is the prime rib, classic sides as well. I’ve purchased real prime rib at butcher and so think this is excellent value. With no prices on the website I was pleasantly surprised. All four of us said gotta do this again! Probably next year as it took 4 months to get a reservation.
Great prime rib
We had a super birthday party - small group due to COVID - 6 folks. Great service, delicious Prime Rib and service. Love it. It was for hubby's birthday.
Absolutely unforgettable to say the least. Everything was perfect. From the moment we stepped in, to being seated, to the amazing food. This was by far the best prime rib we have ever had.
Always the best prime rib. Timeless
They did not mention the anniversary that was celebrated for the occasion that I had added to the description of the bookings. Overall love the sf experience as it is a classic restaurant.
22 Wedding Anniversary had a wonderful dinner. Prime Rib outstanding. Love the Salad, creamed spinach & mashed potatoes w/brown gravy
