Truly top notch food, but let down by slow/lacking service
We've been here a couple times and were very surprised that the place was completely empty, but we had good service, The food was decent and the milk shakes were delicious and fun. I had the Pumpkin milk shake that came with candy corn and a small piece of pumpkin pie. It was a nice evening.
We had the Standard Burger and the Ahi Salad, both were delicious. Also the waiter came around with a bucket of Icy liquid nitrogen treats. He gave us one, we rolled it around and then popped it in our mouth. The steam/smoke would come out of your nose, if you kept your mouth shut while eating it. Was fun! The prices are a little more here, but the burger and ingredients were super fresh and very flavorful.
Waitress was nice but overworked. Had too many tables to contend with. She was unable to remember little requests and was slow to respond. The burger was just ok. The bun was a bit dry and the milk shake was overpriced. Nothing exceptional about it. Overall, not a very good experience.
The service was absolutely horrible. Our food took nearly 45 minutes - just some burgers . I kept asking the waitress to check when people all around, who came in after we did, got their food. I don't think she ever really checked because eventually a manager came out and said there was a mistake in the kitchen and our order wasn't put in. If the waitress had bothered to check any one of the four times I asked (whenever I saw food going out to someone who came in after me), we probably wouldn't have waited so long. Had to wait another 5 minutes to flag someone down for ketchup and salt. They're just not very attentive. The burgers were terrific; we just didn't appreciate having to gobble them down.
Poutine was delicious as were the malts. However the service was poor from the moment we were seated which was disappointing. Decor is fun and hip but overall when service lacks and you visit a place that isn't cheap so you expect a certain level of service like greeting the guest in a timely manner or accommodating a request in a timely manner.
Came with three other guys for lunch. Really enjoyed the wide open feel. One thing that was kind of a bummer were the televisions, the glare at any angle made catching a score challenging. The food was delicious. I had a salmon sandwich rare and was blown away! Seared salmon filet with gravlax across the top... Impeccable! Will definetly be back!
This restaurant took over for the old Charlie Palmer and did not do anything to the space which is weird for a casual burger place. The food was average nothing special, the waiters seem lost and unorganized.
There are much better burger places.
Seated next to a very noisy table w a crying baby. Couldn't hear each other's voices at times and even the waiter had to speak loudly. Our server changed more than once or twice & service was very very slow...
Great onion rings. Me licked the delux turkey burger. Me date thunk him burger a little bland was. Me no recall burger name. Us no shake have but looked meaty great did they.
Food was good Turkey burger and bacon cheeseburger. But service was horrible. We waited 15 minutes to place drink order and then had to flag down a employer as we were not sure who was a server. Then another 20 minutes and flagging down a manager for meal. Server never checked on us and we had to track her down again to get check. Extremely disappointed for very poor service especially at prices. And the manager didn't seem to care much.
Over priced for what you get. Hamburger was nothing special.
a pleasant experience, enjoyed both the service and the food. Travis, the manager, made certain that everything went well.
It was quiet on a Thursday night, but that didn't take away from the experience. The waitress was professional, attentive and personable. The food was great, nothing out of the ordinary but tasty.
Holsten's was a superb place to grab a burger with quick and friendly service. Thoughtful and elevated ingredients are used on the burgers and you get a classic burger with top end ingredients. The service was quick and attentive. Tons of drink options and a good value for what you get.
Excellent food...fun atmosphere
I wish we could give half stars. This location is deserving more 3.5 then 4 stars. Reason being is that I found their burgers not as up to par with their Vegas location especially their millionaire burger. The service was def deserving of the 4 star but overall I was expecting at least the same overall as their Vegas location.
This is usually a decent place to go for a meal if you're shopping at South Coast Plaza. Normally the wait staff is pleasant and attentive. Our waiter during this visit seemed preoccupied with something else, and was a bit detached. The food was good and we got it quickly. A little too quickly since our drinks hadn't been delivered to the table yet. Still happy with the meal though.
Was greeted by a very wonderful hostess (Danielly) who was not only professional but genuinely interested in ensuring my first dining experience would be the best it could be...Great start!!! Our server Gretchen, equally as sincere and exuding great energy, made recommendations that lived up and exceeded my expectations. The Gold Standard burger was AMAZING. The ingredients fresh, the meet juicy and the fries crisp and NOT greasy. It was nice to see the manager (Christine) working the floor ensuring her guests were satisfied. Great food, wonderful ambiance...AMAZING STAFF!!!
We really enjoyed this restaurant. Best burger I have had in a long time. Decor is modern and fun!
We received a warm welcome on Friday around 830pm. Our waiter was friendly. The popcorn was a nice surprise. We ordered a medium well done burger but it came out too well done. The lobster mac and cheese was bland. We definitely expected more flavor from it. The poutine was good. The smores milkshake was really good. We like the look of the restaurant, the artwork, and the live music. Some of our food was a bit underwhelming so it might be a while before we go back.
3rd time back but wasn't as impressed with my burger this time. The meat itself seemed tougher than I remembered.
The service was good, and it was a cute restaurant. The food just didn't wow me. I've had better burgers and fries other places in town. I was a little disappointed. There was nothing wrong with it, but the flavor wasn't out of this world or anything. For the price I felt it was not up to par.
Interesting variety and combinations of ingredients for burgers but so overpriced.
Great burgers
Everything was delicious. Great burgers and fries.
I found the food to be rather pedestrian, the noise level too high and the wait staff just so so. It was a disapointing meal. I asked for one thing and got another and they charge extra for sweet potato fries. Not much to write home about.
overpriced, cobb salad not good............................................................................................................................................]]]]]
I sure miss Charlie Palmers. I had been anxious to try Holsteins since they opened. Overall, the food was tasty. We were greeted with a small bucket of popcorn. It tasted like the kind you'd get prepackaged in the grocery store - nothing special. The tostada appetizer was good and was the Caesar Salad. The chocolate shake was very tasty. The service wasn't much. Our server sure was pleasant but rarely around. The manager/host never stopped by to check on us. He just stood at the front for much of the time. I would have expected more attentive service for the price.
Probably the best burger I have had in a long time! Same impression from the other 3 folks who dined with me. Great staff, excellent recommendation by our server Nick. AMAZING beer list!
Shakes and burgers were interesting and tasty.
Thought we would try Holsteins for a business lunch. We all had burgers and everyone enjoyed their meals. The burgers were very good but I thought they were not good enough to justify the price. The interior of the restaurant, which was previously a fine dining restaurant, did not fit the cuisine. It was OK but I will not be going back.
This was our 4th visit for lunch. This time, my burger was well done while I had asked for medium-well. That's not so bad. I ate it. I also tried a 'boozy shake' for the 1st time. It was good. My wife asked for medium-rare steak and first got well done. They took it back and brought a rare steak back. Still not medium. So she just ate the edges. Our waiter was Joshua. He was great.
I was SO BUMMED to see that the previous restaurant was gone, as it was my FAVORITE in OC. Holstein's is a much more casual setting, but pretty good nonetheless. The lobster mac n cheese is creamy and full of lobster, but not too heavy or too watery like most restaurant mac n cheese can be. The vegan burger was great, and the fries are yummy and crispy. Not a fan of milkshakes, so I didn't have any of those. The burger my friend had was one of the best he'd had in a while, and my other friend said the poutine was great! I'll be going back!
Great hamburgers, beautiful restaurant and great service.
Definitely good burgers! Pricey than the average, but for gourmet, that's expected. You get a really good meal here though--they know their stuff. Shakes were a hit and miss. I had a drunken money shake with the alcohol and didn't taste any alcohol at all. My friend loved hers. The nitro meringue was different and good. Small "drop" but all I needed to cleanse my palate. Cool to see the "dragon's breath" when you ate it.
Was hard to find even with 2 GPS devices. Was not listed on Open Table or restaurants own website that restaurant is inside bloomingdales. Got lost, and tried calling restaurant but it went to voice mail. Finally went into mall to look at map and had to get back into car to drive to other side of mall. Bloomingdales is a large building. When we got inside the restaurant was not listed under restaurants in their directory. Located a sales associate and found restaurant entrance. Went in and a tiny sign at hostess counter said go to front entrance. Really.....where. Through the whole restaurant. Then hostess takes us back of restaurant where we originally entered. Waiter had a trainee. Forgot sweetener for tea. Asked 2 times for a refill and did not get. Food was hot and good. A little grossed out by dirty ketchup and mustard bottles.
Holstein's is a fun, upscale gourmet burger and gourmet shake restaurant and bar. The shakes were delicious and imaginative with spiked shakes available sans alcohol for those like me during the workday. The classic burger and fries were excellent, one of the best I've ever had in California.
Best burger I have ever had .... Kobe Sun Rise burger ALL WORLD
We sat at the bar on Saturday for lunch and had fantastic service.
