Great service as always. Accommodating for different diet needs. The appetizers are a bit small for the price.

My wife and I had such a wonderful dinner. The server's were very pleasant and nice. Our table was perfect with an awesome view of our bay. And the food was spectacular. Mahalo Hilo Bay Cafe for a great 20 year anniversary dinner!!! You all will see us again very soon.

We were able to sit on the lanai which is so beautiful there by the Bay. It was a birthday lunch and we enjoyed it tremendously. HBC is our favorite restaurant.

The decorations might be a little flat but I came to eat and the food and server were excellent. It was recommended to us and we would recommend it to others.

I’ve gone to HBC many times. On this visit, we had reservations at 4pm as we had to leave at 5:30 for an event. We went specifically for Sushi.
We arrived on time and were seated. The lunch menu is very limited and the dinner menu doesn’t begin until 5pm. There is sushi on the lunch menu but we were told that the Sushi bar would not open until 5pm. That left very little on the menu. We contemplated leaving, but had little time to get somewhere else and eat by 5:30, so we ordered edamame and fries...enough to hold us over until after our event. Our waitress seemed annoyed...like it was our fault they had no food.

The worse part is that they close so early...even on a Friday night. We ended up eating at Hula Hulas at 9:30

First off the server sucked he was rude and didn’t even ask what we wanted to drink second of all he ordered the wrong food. I must say he tried to make it up and brought an appetizer to compensate but it was overall the worse restaurant

My husband and I have been going to the Hilo Bay Café for several years. Before they moved to their new location we love the food. Last night we both had sushi. Mine had quite a peculiar taste. My husband’s role fell apart the minute he picked it up. The service was pleasant but very slow. We will not be returning next year.

The food is always good and my go to favorite is the Blue Bay Burger. The view of Hilo town and Mauna Kea is stunning and location is a prefect place to meet up with friends and family visiting from out of town. Plus if you want to go for a nice walk after your meal, Liliʻuokalani Park and Gardens is just steps away.

I have gone to Hilo Bay for years but on this particular night the service was absolutely horrible. When my friends & I gather at Hilo Bay we always rack up a very high bill which is never a problem as the atmosphere, service, and food has always been amazing. On this night our server as well as the sushi chef fell short. We were very upset with how we were treated.

Absolutely wonderful food and drinks. Fair prices! My seared Ahi was delicious. My wife’s Maui BBQ ribs were equally outstanding. We split our main dishes and it was hard to pick a favorite. On top of the wonderful food, we found the best Mai Tai anywhere at the Hilo Bay Cafe with its toasted coconut rimmed glass. I highly recommend this restaurant! You will not be disappointed.

Excellent. Glad I could book on line. Person who answered the phone when I first tried said there was no tables.

I went back on line and there was a table.
Didn’t like the idea that he said the one booking is false

Even thought we made our reservation, they set us our table at outside of the restaurant. The day was very windy and raining, so we slightly wet and had very very cold dinner time with my senior patents from outside of the island. They served maindish first and appetizers later. The maindish, especially, steak was cold, dried and rough already. Hot water is not enough warm for hot tea. I like to use the restaurant for my special guests and occasion; however, they messed my welcoming them and spending priceless moment with my family. Hoping they'll check and change their service to "be better" because most of guests pick and go the restaurant for having their special moment with their high priority people.

and best ever French onion soup. I had a Hibiscus cocktail and it was quite yummy.

Love this restaurant! It is my go to in Hilo for business lunches and dinners. Only issue this time is that the six of us were in this 3/4 square booth which for a business dinner was very awkward. Much prefer table or a booth that doesn’t have a third side. Otherwise, wonderful as always !

Enjoyed our evening out. Service was excellent and staff professional and friendly. Creative menu with many interesting items. Ordered the duck, which was delicious but wish the side of puréed carrot with ginger was a bit more generous because it was so good. Ambience ok but overhead lighting a bit too bright for dinner.

Great service and ambiance. Starters was really good. Ribs was great but the chicken was a bit dry and lacked much flavor. Other than that it was a great dinner and enjoyed our evening at HBC.

We're local here and it's one of our favorite places to dine. This visit was for lunch. I have to say, even coming from Southern California, the Kalua Pork Tostadas were just about the best I've ever had. I'm going back very soon for more.....

Hostess had an attitude and was not welcoming. Food was just OK and the waitress was unfriendly and could not even crack a smile. They were busy not not so that they could not have shown some appreciation for the customs. Gave the impression we were lucky hey were serving us!

We had our pre Valentines Day dinner at HBC. Absolutely love the location, the view of Mauna Kea across the bay and above Hilo is spectacular. It was easy to make reservation at Open Table and good thing we did as they were very busy. Hostess was very friendly and lovely and showed us to our inside table immediately. It looked fine but when we sat down at the upholstered chairs we felt like little kids as they were so low the table was way too high. Should have said something as I’m sure they would have moved us but we did not, lesson learned. Our server was prompt and friendly and very helpful, he knew the menu perfectly. I ordered coffee which I didn’t care for and he removed it and said no charge , no problem. My husbands steak was tender and delicious, and vegetable sides were good as well. My Mahi fish and chips weren’t great nor terrible, the fish was over cooked and the breading was pretty dry and crackly, it was the catch of the day so it was fresh just a bit over cooked. The chips were very dark and limp, perhaps this is their intention? I just prefer them more thicker and more substantial and a golden brown. We didn’t have cocktails this time but have in the past and they are always excellent. Our dessert was molten chocolate lava cake which was so cute and delicious with creamy vanilla bean ice cream. HBC is a fine restaurant in a spectacular location and We will certainly go there again. I have had other choices such as their Parmesan custard appetizer and French onion soup and mushroom pasta in the past which were far superior to the fish and chips.
