Overall, I thought the place was very nice. Service was superb. Food was fine but could have used some help. Vegies were not cooked at all. Broccoli was crunchy and not cooked. Potatoes were luke warm to cold. Minor nits but for the price it could and should have been better.

As usual, the food and service at Higgins were outstanding. We always enjoy the food, but especially when the rarer local items are on the menu, as they were last night with Oregon razor clams. Their specials are the best!

We started out perfect. Had reservations at 5 because we had a show at 7. Were served cocktails and a wonderful charcuterie tray very quickly. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. That’s where it went wrong. We waited for 35 minutes for our main dishes after they cleared our charcuterie. No one ever bothered to ask how we were or why we were sitting there. For so long with no food. Finally at 625 our main dishes showed up. I had mussels. My husband had sole. The food was delicious but we had to eat it in about 10 minutes to get to the show. We couldn’t enjoy it. We were close to walking out when the food arrived. We didn’t have time to really enjoy it. We were assuming they totally forgot our main orders. No apologies. We were in such a hurry at the end we forgot our credit card and had to go get it after the show. Disappointed even though the food was delicious. I would go back for the food but very disappointed at the time lapse between courses.

While dining trends in PDX change with the seasons, there are very few restaurants that offer the quality and consistency as Higgins. First dined here after moving to Portland in 1995, and have always had a great meal and first-class service.

What a special experience. I left feeling so good. The food was delicious and nutritious. Farm to table was obvious. I had the tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly. The mushroom side was fantastic. All the accompaniments were fantastic.

Higgins is my favorite restaurant. I have been twice in the last 2 weeks. One reason is the razor clams. If on the menu, order them! I had to go twice because they didn't have them the first time. If not, you will not be disappointed. The fish is always really good, and I loved the endive salad. The waiters are usually really good, too. You can generally rely on their opinions, especially with John. Only slight negatives are the noise - yes, energetic is right - and it is a bit chilly if you are anywhere near the door. It is not inexpensive, but it is really good food.

the food was somewhat off tonight in the bar. The Brussel sprouts in a cream sauce were a bit undercooked and bland, very disappointing dish, and the mussels were good but as well I felt the flavor a bit dull, though the mussels were very fresh tasting and a nice dish overall....

Local produce, expertly prepared, attractively served, in generous portions. The trendy places come and go, but Higgins remains our favorite Portland restaurant. Last night I had a flavorful pate' with truffles, followed by duck. It was satisfying in every way.

Another visit to Higgins. This was probably my favourite meal so far. I had checked the online menu and was pretty sure I wanted the duck. Four specials were offered to try to tempt me away. They failed. It was done three ways: confit, sausage, and magret. The confit was rich in flavour, the sausage was peppery and tasty, and the magret was prepared perfectly. No need to ask for the right temperature. My dining companion had a seafood stew done in a cider broth. Super yummy. I was forced to eat the potatoes he did not have room for. Firsts included a warm potato salad and an incredible grilled cauliflower. Dessert was a yummy almond tart. Instead of wine, we did beers. A Belgian with the savoury stuff and an aged red with cherries for dessert. Already looking forward to our next visit.

I ordered the Ling Cod and found it to be mediocre. Just mildly warm and a very plain butter sauce. The broccoli was on the spicy side and undercooked which might have been intentional. The slaw was good. My wife was happy with her spare ribs which made the overall experience worthwhile.

Back after ten years away, we found the food as excellent as always but service has lost. Paper tablecloths, even with a pig stamped on them are cute but don’t replace the original. The bottle of requested sparkling water water arrived rapidly but the glas had been removed and a replacement took two requests. The filet ordered medium rare arrived done, victim to swapped orders. The replacement was comped but had clearly been ordered through the usual queue, not expedited, forcing me to sit through most of my wife’s main course waiting. We’ll definitely be back but cross our fingers that this was an exceptional off service evening.

Lovely evening at Higgins after the Portland opera. Stellar Manhattan, best mussels in town, my husband enjoyed the Vesuvio pasta with braised lamb ragout. Perfect culinary experience. We often meet friends in the bar for Happy Hour and a light dinner but this was a special occasion so we bumped it up a notch. Have been long time fans of Higgins since they opened and will keep coming back.

Dining at Higgins is like stepping back into an older Portland. The service is warm and welcoming—a lovely selection of wine and delicious food. Last night, the greens salad with blue cheese was especially heavenly. We both look forward to a return.

This was my 2nd visit. I am visiting Portland…enjoyed the very professional staff all around. Great atmosphere and quiet and even romantic. This visit I was very disappointed in my main dish. It was spaghetti squash cakes. Very colorless for one thing. Not attractive. And it lacked any distinct flavor and texture. It came across as mushy. I did like, again, the terrines and cheeses. They are presented with a lot of lovely accoutrements. Do check it out if you’ve not been. A unique place.

Starting on a positive note, the service at the restaurant was exemplary. The front desk personnel were attentive, and our server ensured we were well-tended to at all moments. However, when it came to the cuisine, there was a bit of a mismatch. Although marketed as French American fusion, the flavor profiles leaned more towards French Brazilian or Basque fusion. The portion sizes felt a tad small given the price point, and the blend of flavors seemed a bit muddled, with some overpowering others. The overall taste was decent, yet didn't quite match up to the financial outlay. I’m open to giving this place another shot during lunch to possibly discover a different culinary narrative, but as of now, my feelings are somewhat mixed.

Higgins was always our go to restaurant when we lived in Portland. Having moved to Central Oregon, we miss dining there. I drove over to hear Barabara Kingsolver lecture and had an early dinner with my friend. We spit the mussels (such an amazing broth and shell fish so tender) and enjoyed the lamb with pasta recommended by our server. Thank you for continuing to be a 10+ restaurant.
