Higgins Restaurant & Bar
The dishes were inventive, local, and delicious. The service was both warm and professional.
Higgins is an established favorite. We love the vibe in a romantic setting. The menu covers the bases and all the food is excellent quality.
Classic Portland restaurant that continues to deliver great food and service. We had a combination of specials and menu items, all of which were delicious. Service was very attentive, and we were out quickly on a busy night (Valentine's Day), but we didn't feel pushed out - all courses were nicely timed. We'll definitely be back.
Excellent service, food was outstanding.
Absolutely wonderful! The food was outstanding and my waiter, a kind, older gentleman, was the most professional and welcoming host i've had in quite awhile.
We say that Higgins is "our 2nd living room" -
Our favorite place to hang out
Best 'eating out' place
With the most friendly, fun, irreverent and quietly excellent & skilled staff in PDX
Higgins continues to be one of the great restaurants in Portland. Innovative and traditional all at the same time.
We enjoyed delicious food, craft cocktails and wine served in the correct glasses. The food and service were truly outstanding. Unfortunately our table was placed next to the door, so it was cold at times and very loud. I would return, but would ask to be seated on the lower level.
Great lunch and service.
This is definitely our favorite Portland Restaurant. Wonderful food, great people. We have been regular customers for many years.
Always love bringing out of town guests to a quintessential Pacific NW staple. Higgins was one of the first restaurants I sampled during 30 years of wine tasting in Willamette Valley before moving to Portland seven years ago. Great atmosphere and a wide array of choices. Wish they would put more seafood on the menu. Great business lunch setting. And their bar is also a nice venue.
This place still delivers! A portland institution and always great service. Get the open faced pastrami sandwich thou I do think they have one of the best burgers in town too!
We were expecting something very special and we were pretty disappointed. The meals were good for sure but not great. The waiter was impersonal and not too engaging. We won’t be going back anytime soon.
Excellent food and service. We were a little unlucky in getting the table by the entrance. The restaurant has a few tables by the entry and in the hallway that for some may be less than enjoyable as it’s busy, drafty and loud. Otherwise an excellent experience.
Loved it! The service was outstanding, and the food was really great.
Our dining experience was wonderful! We were promptly seated. Our waiter was very professional. The whole staff was very attentive. We enjoyed a really nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. The mixed green salad with hazelnuts and blue cheese was served on a cold plate and was one of the best simple salads we have had dining out! Would highly recommend the Dungeness crab & shrimp cakes as well. Very nice ambiance.
Food and service were fantastic. Andy is one of the best waiters in Portland!
Not a huge menu to choose from. Service was decent
Fabulous selection and regional, seasonal options. Quiet enough for private conversation.
Met with friend of mine from out of town; we hadn’t seen each other in 20 years. The Saturday evening was quite busy at the restaurant; we had a drink at the bar waiting for our table since we were early. Our table was in a quieter spot, had excellent service & food was outstanding: fresh, tasty. I thought the prices were a bit steep but overall the experience was remarkable. It was my first time checking out Higgins’s. I would definitely recommend it.
Always great service and good. Had the rib eye and it was amazing.
Our favorite special-occasion restaurant in Portland. Imaginative dishes, often incorporating Northwest-sourced ingredients, knowledgeable servers, low-key elegance - pricey, but worth it.
Excellent food and service. A memorable evening.
My new favorite restaurant! Thank you for the incredible food and low key atmosphere!
Lovely place for special or just nice dinner. I had the duck (confit/Magret) which was outstanding with the greens & Spaetzle, which added nice texture. Husband had cassoulet which was also wonderful. Only downside might be it was so much meat, large portions. We think next time we’ll share an entree with one or two of their creative, unique sides (which might leave room for dessert!) Also for the non-drinkers, they’ve put thought & culinary energy into mocktail offerings - the one I had was tasty & had an “edge”, not overly sweet, complimented food. Great place that continues to impress with locally sourced, fresh ingredients creatively prepared, in a relaxing, friendly environment.
We had a wonderful experience both in the bar and in the restaurant. Great service, great food!
This was a night out on the town with my wife and a couple of friends. The wait staff was outstanding and Jason was very helpful in helping me choose a great wine, main course, and of course dessert.
I have been to Higgins in ‘94when it first opened. I am not from Portland, so I hadn’t been back since then, and I have to say the quality of ingredients and the innovative menu has remained true to its original concept. Very good!
Had a tremendous meal. Everything was awesome from food to service
Very nice and classic place for a cocktail and dinner before a show. Excellent food and service. Bar is a bit more casual feeling than the dining room depending on what you are looking for.
While I love the bar, the restaurant service and ambiance is wonderful and intimate, the restaurant menu was underwhelming (lots of repeated items, accompaniments to entrees again repeated and fish was over cooked. Ingredient quality high, presentation lovely and sadly incredibly bland and unimaginative. I would happily return to the bar or to restaurant for cocktails and oysters; but otherwise for the price so many more exciting options in a great food town.
I have never been disappointed with Higgins. Dishes are made with attention to details and ingredients, predominantly sourced locally.
Horrible acoustics. They need acoustic tiles on the ceilings or some remedy. We swore, all 4 of us, that we’d avoid Higgins dining room in the future.
Excellent service and excellent food.
This was my first time coming to Higgins for dinner, and food was VERY good. You definitely get what you pay for, and the ambiance is lovely. The fisherman's stew I ordered was probably the best I've ever had (my only issue with it was a stray fish bone), as was the bread that came with it. I would recommend dining here with a friend or date. Lovely place.
Fantastic as usual.
Table was ready when promised. We were seated promptly and waited on immediately. Wait staff was exceptionally friendly and explained specials well. Appetizers were served relatively quickly and entrees soon thereafter. Food presentation was great, food quality very good. Check was delivered promptly and staff was friendly upon our departure.
Dinner before the Oregon Symphony’s New Years Concert. The restaurant made a wonderful evening even more special. Food and service were outstanding.
The location was the reason for dining at Higgins. It is walking distance to the Keller Auditorium. It was fine but a bit old school.
