The crab cake appetizer & mixed seafood grill was outstanding...cooked & seasoned to perfection!
Cannot beat the setting! Historic restaurant. Dinner at sunset is fantastic!
Great place for a romantic sunset dinner. Ask for beachside seating and you'll have the best view. Food menu is limited during this pandemic, but there's enough choice to satisfy most everyone. Portions are generous. Seniors can probably share. Service is top-notch. Highly recommend.
The food was very good, as per usual at this establishment. The pacing of the courses was appropriate - we had the mixed seafood grill, giving us a nice variety of seafood. The waiters were friendly, and checked at appropriate times to see how we were doing and if we wanted/needed anything else. The only disappointment was another table of 6 that came and stood right by us when they were finished, just to talk. With the COVID and social distancing requirements, this should not have been permitted to occur. After a few rather assertive requests, they moved away from us.
Beautiful breakfast on the lanai at the beach - so relaxing and peaceful. Menu's limited but we were grateful the restaurant was open considering the uncertainty of their business with all the closings and re-openings.
Great place for intimate dining on the beach. Limited menu due to covid but food was good.
I made reservation for 2 on open table. Reservation was confirmed by me on email. Showed up at restaurant on correct day and time. I was told restaurant was closed. Given no explanation or apology or accommodation. Had to explain to my guest and then had to make other accommodations. Then, open table asks me how my experience was, there was no experience and essentially no communication between restaurant or Open Table. Hope this doesn’t happen to other people!
The Hau Tree Lanai is undergoing management transition. The service was impeccable, as always, over the past 35 years. My only disappointment was that my French toast arrived with artificial maple syrup in a plastic bag. It tasted nothing like the maple syrup that's usually served. I will, however, continue to have breakfast at the Hau Tree Lanai. I'll just bring my own bottle of maple syrup.
Love this place and their staff. I hope they all get to keep their jobs when management changes.
We were celebrating our 61st wedding anniversary. Everything was grand. We couldn’t ask for a better celebration.
Birthday. Staff is fabulous!
Great place to relax and eat and great view.......!
Peaceful, relaxing, can smell sand and sea plus excellent Covid protocols, along with good food and efficient wait staff.
The service because of the server was fantastic. We'd definitely visit and eat there again because the food is fresh and the service cannot be beat. The only thing that was negative is your online reservation. There is a part that ask you if there is a special occasion. I wrote that it was my girlfriends birthday but there was zero acknowledgement from our server. Obviously not his fault. I think it's your website that's the problem
Other one group customers were so loud and high tone voice mingle as a group. Now in COVID-19, customers In restaurant has to be in one house hold in Tire1 level, but one group show up as business meeting and video shooting, so noisy & so loud voice. It was annoying. So disappointed. After they left, we really enjoyed Hawaiian Monk-seal on shore and beautiful ocean front view.
Beautiful setting and great service from the wait staff. Overall a great night and good enough for a second run when Hawaii and the economy are back to some higher level of normal.
No doubt Covid has had an impact on their business.
The menu is limited which was not really an issue, there are good options. Only beer and wine, no full bar, which was disappointing, since no pre-dinner cocktails. The crab cakes were better than just good. The fresh fish (Mahi Mahi) was a little over done but the scallops and shrimp were prepared very nicely. The beef short rib did fall off bone, but had to cut it with a knife, and had to work at it, not the finest I've had in Hawaii. The petit filet was excellent. Dessert was special and the wine was good.
Thank you for a great night. We wish you well in your return to full operation.
Absolutely recommended for a special occasion.
Great evening at one of our favorite restaurants in honolulu. Food, atmosphere and especially service were on point
The atmosphere is outstanding and one of my favorite dining settings. We had breakfast at 8:30 am and there were just a few other parties in the restaurant. The food was good and the service friendly and attentive.
The ambience of the Hau Tree Lanai is unmatched - gorgeous view of the ocean, under the shade of a tree, personable attentive staff. I've been coming here for over 25 years, and it continues as my favorite breakfast venue in the world.
Beautiful outdoor dining by the beach! Lunch menu was limited but good tasting.
Relaxing atmosphere. Good to be outside. Waiters careful about keeping on their masks. Portobello mushroom sandwich was excellent.
A wonderful evening celebrating the evening before my son headed off to college. There was a beautiful sunset where we saw the green flash, a lovely evening, great service, delicious food! The best that could have Ben asked for. Thank you for another great dinner & evening!
The Hau Tree Lanai is truly a gem of a dining experience. It offers a quiet, cozy setting with a superb view of the beach, and in the evening the sunsets must be wonderful. Everyone from the valet to the host & server were polite & courteous. Though the menu was simple, the food was excellent & served up in a very attractive presentation. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends & family. We plan to return for the dinner experience.
They had well thought out and executed procedures for health and safety during COVID-19: one-way entry/exit, spaced tables, restaurant employees were masked, etc.
Enjoyed the food that we ordered. Limited item menu due to covid19, but we ordered the surf & turf. Not huge portions but it tasted very good. Service was good even tho staffing seemed less too. If you don’t mind outdoor seating near a popular beach with live trees etc nearby, it makes for very nice sunset dining.
Loved it! Great view and ambience! Delicious brunch.
Love this place, great food and service. The portions are large as well.
So nice to sit outside on the beach, watching the swimmers & surfers 🏄♀️ while eating breakfast
The dinner was excellent the weather was perfect the service was outstanding and I will definitely go back there again thank you for taking the time and going through all that effort to make our dining experience excellent.
bird landed on the table and persisted by perching on the glass.Staff changed the table settings.
We were so happy to read that the Hau Tree Lanai has opened again! It’s been a favorite of ours for many years. Consistently good food and service. And, the atmosphere (with a table right beside Kaimana Beach) can’t be beat! Hope to go back again & again!
We came in for an early Anniversary and had a very good time
Alan and the crew served us well
Enjoyed all of the food
We will return
8/17/20-breakfast was excellent, and the place was immaculate the servers were quick courteous and everything was on time the weather was beautiful which all amounted to a lovely breakfast and not to mention I think the eggs Benedict is the best there in all of Hawaii!
Our Anniverssary. Best location to see the beach and sunset
We have been going to the Hau Tree Lanai for 20 years. It continues to be a great place and has never disappointed us. In the midst of C-19 with all the requirements they did an excellent job with the social distancing requirements and keeping the tables clean and the service attentive and conforming to the current rules. The surf & turf was excellent and what else is there to say about the beautiful sunset. A great value these days was an added bonus.
Great location, good food, good service, nice spot right on the beach to enjoy an afternoon or evening meal.
In this age of corvid 19, this place is perfect for outdoor dining. The service was very good as usual and the eggs benedict lives up to it's name that it's the best in Honolulu.
The menu is limited due to the fact that the volume of customers is drastically reduced because of the pandemic, but it has enough favorites for the locals to enjoy. Hope to see things back to normal for the Hau Tree Lanai, a favorite special occasion place to enjoy good food and to sit at ocean front in the comfort of the hau trees' shade.
The best place for breakfast. Service is great. Food is always consistent. Best setting on the beach.
As always, it was wonderful to return to Has Tree Lanai. Food, service, etc. all great. Thank you for being there, Hau Tree. We will return to your lanai again & again.
