I dine here on every trip to Honolulu. This is one of the best dining experience in Hawaii and not to be missed. The food is exceptional and the wait staff is superb. I love having Matthew as my waiter and his suggestions never fail.
If you book a 5:30pm ressie you will see the most beautiful sunsets. I’ve also had brekkie and lunch here; food and staff won’t disappoint.
Romantic atmosphere, awesome service, good food.
We had breakfast every morning for a week at this charming beachside restaurant because we were staying at the hotel. It is a popular breakfast spot for tour groups, so make a reservation. Most patrons seem to order the eggs benedict, which is pretty good, but you can also have a simple inexpensive breakfast of tea, a soft-boiled egg and toast, and there is a great selection of fresh fruit including blackberries and strawberries, papayas, pineapple, and bananas. A meal here is not cheap, but you are paying for quality ingredients and an expert wait staff. Despite the steady stream of customers, no one waits for more than a few minutes for their breakfast.
Hau Tree Lanai is a beautiful outdoor restaurant set on quiet San Souci beach. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is prepared perfectly. The chef takes pride in the food and it shows and the staff is first class. This is not a tourist trap location and the prices reflect it. If you’re looking for a truly amazing meal and beautiful location, Hau Tree Lanai is a wonderful choice. Sunset seating is beautiful, but on Fridays, the late seating (7:45), allows you to eat and drink without feeling rushed and you can see the fireworks at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
I did a change to the seat of the beach side.
Thanks to good service.
You cannot beat the view from Hau Tree Lanai. You are right on Kaimana Beach! Last year we saw Rocky the seal and her pup Kaimana from our table. Otherwise there is the beautiful water, surf, surfers and people on the beach. There is a historic tree providing shade at the site of the old McInerny estate. There is a separate bar, also with a great view where we waited for the rest of the party. Service was was very good. Food was very good with excellent choice of seafood and steaks. They were out of onaga and opakapaka the night I was there so I had a meat trio of filet mignon, prime rib on bone and flap meat. The other 2 in our party shared the Tomahawk (for 2) which was huge with a bone about 18 inches long! We shared escargot and Ceasar salad (3 of us) which were both excellent and were so full we didn't have room for desert. I would definitely go back!
Expensive, but delicious. Wonderful service. My son loved his steak so much, he wanted to shake the chef's hand and order a second one! Beautiful view, a unique place.
Cory was an excellent server and the setting right off San Souci beach is divine. The only flaw was their hollandaise sauce on their benedicts. Two members of my party ordered eggs benedicts (one traditional, the other with crab). The sauce was a shade of orange which seemed initially unusual. Then we realized why: it tastes like cheese sauce. They must put American or cheddar cheese in it. They should warn customers about this special recipe. Easy valet parking ($5/3 hrs). Or do metered parking across the street.
Good staffs, good foods, good location, good view,
We went for a special dinner after our engagement that afternoon. The restaurant really made it special! We had a beach front table, watched the sunset, shared a bottle of wine and had the most delicious meal. The food, service, and ambiance all made for a celebration we won’t forget.
Ordered escargot they were not cooked properly and Served without the shell . Told the waiter he would mention it to the chef . Abundance of flies very annoying . Assistant tried to fan the flies off my food . Whatever they had going was ruined . Have had Much better experience at other waterfront restaurants in Waikiki
Amazing ambience and atmosphere, a hidden Waikiki gem that NEVER disappoints.
Perfect place for breakfast. Great food, service and view. Nuff said!
amazing best birthday brunch ever. The food was yummy and service was incredible gave homey but fancy feel :)
Best place to eat breakfast lunch or dinner! Right on the beach under the tree, awesome!!!
Location is beautiful, right on the beach, great views of the sunset. Nice tables under big trees, romantic setting. Service was good and prices are what you expect at a tourist restaurant, but the food was disappointing. Their “Kona Lobster” had an odd flavor to it. It seemed to be a New England style lobster with claws, but did not taste fresh or like New England lobster typically tastes. Some of the other food items were tasty enough. We had a great time overall with the view and enjoyed being there.
Great food recommendations from waiter, excellent service and gorgeous views. There were two of is and we had one prix fixe menu and some crab cakes. The serving sizes were generous and the one set menu would've easily fed us both. The crab cakes were delicious. The waiter really took the time to explain the menu and stopped to have a chat a few times. There was guitar player on the upper level who played amazingly through out the night.
Loved the live music. Didn't get served right away, had to wait for menus. Other than that, beautiful view and the food was excellent.
Hau Tree Lanai has become our favorite restaurant for many reasons....from the always friendly staff to the delicious food and beautiful views. We will celebrate every occasion here.
Twenty years ago, this was my all time favorite restaurant with the most romantic ambiance. The scenic view of the sunset and ocean is still incredible but I was disappointed that the Hau Trees are no longer lit up with strings of white lights throughout the entire tree like years ago - only a few flood lights in each tree which was not romantic at all. The live music is no longer in the restaurant but on the bench is the lobby near the bar. You can hear the music from the restaurant but it's not the same as live musicians playing inside the restaurant. The Shrimp Scampi was mediocre (bland) - not so delicious to entice you to return again. Entrees are pricey so I expected a scrumptious meal. My best memories of the restaurant's special ambiance are from many years ago. I was sad to see the restaurant lost some of its most romantic touches that made the restaurant extra special.
I had the Miso Sake Salmon. Whoever cooked this has no idea how to prepare this dish. The salmon was rock hard (very over cooked) and the ratio between sake and miso was way off toward sake, which has a rather harsh flavour. It would have been good with just a touch of sake and mostly miso, and of course just about everyone in Hawaii over cooks salmon, so I've grown to expect it and it is always disappointing. But, I was led to believe this was a very good restaurant, so I gave it a shot. Nope. Disappointed again. I can only have correctly prepared salmon in Seattle and other places in the Pacific Northwest, where they understand it is a very delicate meat and does not require heaps of cooking time.
The good thing about Hau Tree Lanai is their setting. It is well established, right on the beach, and has a wonderful ambiance. It was good for that, as our group of friends wanted to talk and hear each other. In so many restaurants that is nearly impossible. Not at Hau Tree Lanai. It's great for a get-together if you want to be able to hear those around you, and have a great beach-side setting that is quintessentially Hawaii.
It's been a while since my last dining but I love Classic Eggs Benedict at Hau Tree Lanai.
It was a great time. We had a beach front table and it was gorgeous
The Food was very good and the service was.great. We had a beach front seating and enjoyed the sunset.
