Hau Tree Lanai was recommended to us by family who visits every couple years. It was a bit of an overcast morning when we arrived for breakfast, so I walked in feeling skeptical. However, I was happy to be quickly proven wrong.
The atmosphere was authentic and romantic (request beachfront seating!), and the food blew me away! I ordered the French Toast, and my husband had the Chicken Fried Rice. I’m secretly debating going back for breakfast tomorrow morning; this was one of our vacation food highlights in all of Honolulu!
Wonderful!!!!! The food, the service, everything was amazing!!!
One of my all time favorites! Great food, awesome waiters.
Special Occasion: we live in Kaneohe. Our electricity was shut down due to a new pole being erected so we decided to have breakfast in town at the Best breakfast place on Oahu. It had poured cats and dogs about a half hour before we got to the restaurant. All of the tables by the railing overlooking the beach were dysfunctional due to too much water. The maitre d graciously explained the problem and quickly got us a dry table near the beach. The waitstaff as usual have the True Aloha Spirit and the food is delicious. We ordered the Half Hash one egg Benedict. Perfectly cooked and created eggs Benedict with the best hash you could imagine. What a great way to spend the time waiting for the electricity to come back on.
Have been going to this restaurant for years. Have dinner there at least once every time we come to Honolulu. Nice place, good service but this time food was not good. We had fish which was fresh but totally tasteless. We wonder if the usual chef has left or was off the night we went. Very pricey meal, usually worth it, but not this time. Would not recommend and will not go back any time soon.
We happened to dine at Hau Tree Lanai on a VERY windy evening. The staff had already moved the guests indoors. And though there was a little scramble to get tables in and accommodate guests it was done quickly and efficiently. Guests and staff were in the spirit of it and all went well. Kudos to the Maitre ‘de for stepping up and going beyond to keep everyone happy. A very enjoyable evening! Michelle and Brent
We went for breakfast. Service was great and the presentation of food was fabulous. Delicious food with breathtaking views of the ocean.
The Hau Tree Lanai is an amazing place to have a wonderful dinner. The staff was extremely attentive, the food was amazing, and the ambiance was great. The sound of the waves while eating delicious food was second to none. The staff even made it a point to help my daughter over her fear of trying something new. She ended up loving her food. All in all, it was a great experience.
This was a lovely spot to have dinner on the sand. This area of Waikiki is much quieter. The waitstaff was attentive but not overly present. We ate late so were able to get a table right near the sand. If you want to see the sunset, book early. The fish delicious, even by Hawaiian standards. Very romantic, quiet but with live guitar. A great last dinner in Honolulu.
Lovely beachside dining under the hau tree. Relaxing setting with great service and the ahi was very good.
The crab Benedict had the perfect blend of flavors. Coffee is great and your cup is constantly replenished. The wait staff are the best.
Horrible service. No one cares if they wait on you there. We tried it four times this last week and it kept getting worse! The final straw was for our Sunday brunch with our very important local political figures, who were our guests. We were seated without any greeting and then were ignored for 25 minutes and finally had to ASK if we might place a drink order. Food took 45 more minutes to come and very unfriendly wait staff who are t all too old to be working in this busy place but act as if they are in some kind of a pointless hurry. Never again.
Go to Orchids instead for a superb dining experience in a lovely setting!
One of our favorite spots. Great food, gorgeous views, excellent guitar music.
Lovely waterfront setting. But the wait staff and bar staff are not very courteous or interested in their jobs. We felt like they didn’t like what they were doing. Very little Aloha spirit like in other resort dining choices. We did not feel warmly welcomed nor appreciated as guests. They all just seemed too distant and hurried for no reason.
They have no almond milk nor soy milk options, so you better like dairy! Coffee very weak too. Food was average, no really good vegan or vegetarian options...and a no substitutions policy printed on the dinner menu? Really? Just a very unfriendly place to dine.
The eating area is very cool with the twisted old trees along the beach side, and becomes romantic/ as the sun sets and the lights come on and the tiki torches are lit.
The employees are beyond friendly from the first greeting to as you are leaving.
The food is fantastic. I had the scampi and it was delicious.
I would definitely go back if I am lucky enough to get back to Hawaii.
One of my favorite restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner. That’s why we always go back. Superb scenery especially during whale season!
Wonderful place for a memorable meal... great food, beautiful and delicious. Love the setting!
We have dined numerous times since our first visit which was our honeymoon! We love the food, service and ambiance!
Birthday night out
We split the Tomohawk Steak which was cooked to perfection! The garden dining is intimate and the staff is superior to other restaurants.
This is such a nice restaurant -- and one of very few on the beach. It's evocative of "old" Hawaii with a varied menu and delicious food. Excellent service, as well. I highly recommend it to visitors and kama'aina alike.
My birthday week here in Oahu. Never once did they wish me a happy birthday Or come to check on us during our whole breakfast or asked how our meal was. Coffee, juice and meal was horrible. We didn’t drink our coffee, had a few sips of juice( which they said was fresh squeezed and it’s clearly from a carton) Coffee tasted like it came from a hotel coffee maker. I ordered a croissant with scrambled eggs, cheese, and tomatoes. Eggs looked like an omelet and it was dripping in butter. My husband got the eggs Benedict and he said it was so bad. The view was beautiful and sitting u see the tree was a nice experience. Oh also they don’t have any milk alternatives for coffee. Just milk and skim milk. Would not go here again. Sad because this place could be so much better!!
Hau Tree is always the same...Exceptional. We are never disappointed with anything...the service, the food, the view. It is always our pleasure to be there.
We always take our guests here--it's the most beautiful and intimate of the sea-view restaurants, the food is delicious, and service is always sensitive--they don't interrupt us when we're talking! (Why, when parents teach their 3-year-olds not to interrupt when someone is speaking, do servers in nearly all of even the most expensive restaurants break into guests' own conversations with their questions? It's so rude!)
