Hamamori Restaurant and Sushi Bar
Hamamori is a longtime favorite but usually for omakase at the sushi bar. This time it was a seated lunch with a business associate. Absolutely delightful; the restaurant itself has a simple sophistication to it with white, blue design and amazing light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. My guest had the Nabeyaki Udon which came with five pieces of tempura (learned you dip it in the broth from friendly server) and dark and white meat chicken. Generous portion and a deal for $15. I ordered the Lunch Special of assorted sushi with house salad and miso soup. Fish was pristine and melted in your mouth. The tamago (Japanese omelet) piece was a treat. Had a nice crowd.
Another plus about Hamamori is you can make a reservation for the sushi bar and indicate whose station you would like to sit in; we request James, the owner, who is a master with a following from LA and OC. His son, Tim, also creates wonderful sushi. Always run into people we know there. Truly a gem at South Coast Plaza!
Food was delicious and service was incredible.
Usually love this place. The waitress was great, the drinks were great , everything except the main course was very good. But for the second time in a row they were out of the Miso marinated lamb. The waitress says they run out often. Well if you sell so much buy more, or if you don't have it that often take it off the menu and make it a special item when you do have it. So I ordered Nabeyaki udon and found the udon to be over cooked and the dish was missing the usual shitake mushroom which I was told they do not add. Have had many times in Japan and in the US and find only uniformed non Japanese restaurants miss. My wife had the chirashi bowl which she said was noticeable smaller than she had here in previous visits.
Good octopus, got large plate sushi ...not the best fish
Very good food and the our server was very informative and knowledgeable. Uni is my favorite and their uni shooter was pretty tasty. Of course, the restaurant a little pricey but I’d definitely return for another special occasion.
Sashimi was excellent. The other foods tempura lamb chops miso soup were below par. No taste or to heavy fot tempura
Plus sat us right in front of the kitchen entry which was not pleasant
Always a good time at Hamamori!! We can leave the selection to the expert 🙏🤗
As always, the staff at Hamamori excels. The food and service experience doesn’t disappoint.
Nori was amazing!
One of the best sushi restaurants I have ever eaten at. Not cheap, but worth it.
Food was mediocre. I recommend Otorro in Irvine for more authentic dishes.
Quality of sashimi and rice were not as good as other OC top Japanese sushi restaurants.
Very fresh. I love the selection offered. Service is awesome. A bit pricey!
Our server Hiroko was very attentive as well as all the staff. Always made sure our water/ tea was full. The sushi/ sashimi was top quality. Our appetizers were delicious especially the ishiyaki (wagyu beef) where we cooked on a hot lava stone. The beef melted in your mouth. Definitely recommend if you want top quality food. Can't wait to come back.
Celebrated a birthday this past weekend and we were really impressed with the entire meal. Although a bit on the pricey side once you add sake and mixed drinks, the quality of the food was incredible. Unique dishes, melt in your mouth sashimi, delicious rolls, and great appetizers. The birthday cheesecake dessert was light and airy and just the right touch of sweet. Will definitely return!!!!
Always great service, amazing sushi
Fish was like butter, fun sushi chefs, and all white interior makes for a great experience! We'll be back again soon - thank you.
Great food and the service is awesome!
Hammamori is the best sushi spot in Socal, conveniently located on the 3rd floor of the lower mall at SouthCoast plaza, all of our servers, Vincent, Christina, Jimmy are great and very attentive. I am new to sushi and not quite ready for Omagase but all of the staff have educated me on the best dishes along with recommendations of what I might like. I stayed away from sushi for many years mostly because it was new and I didn't understand the whole concept.
For a serious sushi lover or for a novice like me, James will make sure you have a great experience.
Kampai to all my friends at Hammamori!
Outstanding Japanese food
Food was just ok and service was incredibly slow. There weren't enough people in the restaurant to have such a slow experience.
Excellent food and stellar service. I went with my husband for his birthday and we ordered the omakase. If piece of sushi was perfectly prepared and seasoned. No added wasabi or soy sauce necessary. I also highly recommend the signature Japanese Mojito....sooo good! We will go again in the near future for sure!
Always sit at the sushi bar, and their recommendations and preparations are amazing!
If you're as consistently pleased here as we are, try buying the chef his favorite beverage..
Delicious food and wonderful service. Would definitely come back.
Great menu and very good quality. Definitely upper echelon for OC. Solid omakase and hot stone plate Kobe. The restaurant suffers from a poor location tucked away on the 3rd floor of south coast crystal court so the ambience was a bit off. Still one of the top 5 or so spots for sushi in all of OC food wise. Location takes away from the food experience unfortunately.
Outstanding service and quality. James the head chef/owner is very creative. I mostly order Omakase when I’m there and he always have new sushi dishes , never the same. Good value for the high quality sushi.
I have been meaning to try this place for quite some time, but didn't get the chance until recently. I am very sad I waited so long to go! It was absolutely amazing!! Sushi quality was awesome and the appetizers were great too. I wish I went with more people, so I could have tried more things on the menu. I am a bit of a sushi snob, so this is a highly recommend. The crispy pork belly app was yum, and I don't think there is any sushi that you wouldn't like. I can't wait to go back.
Upscale place. Not for the casual sushi meal. Ironic that its in a mall but it is South coast plaza. If youre on a budget get in and out by 630 or youll pay 2x the cost.
Awesome restaurant. Sushi is very quality, chefs are great and fun. Can't wait for next visit
Boyfriend birthday dinner. Our chef Taiki was awesome! The ambience was good. Restaurant wasn’t too busy tonight so we had more of a personal sit down Omakase experience.
Always high quality food with great service.
When you can’t be in Japan eating Sushi, Hammamori delivers the Goods.
It’s always a great time especially if you sit at the bar. Taiki, & James are the best. Prices are reasonable and the fish is fresh.
We had a very pleasant dining experience as always. Staff is very professional and friendly and the food is excellent.
Hamamori is bright and light as well as elegant, not your normal Sushi environment. Perfect place before an evening at Performing Arts. Our server was a pro. Some of the wine prices are a little crazy. Rose is one of the most popular wines today and they had only a split available for $80! I drink and collect wine, I haven't had a $160 or Rose lately, have you? There is not shortage of decent French dry Rose's. Softshell shrimp are amazing, the appetizer sampler had very little taste, (close your eyes,....good luck trying to discern if you are eating tofo or fish) Hamachi prep is outstanding. Octopus was decent. Here is my one huge question "how can a restaurant give you a $200 bill and use the absolute cheapest chop sticks made?" "would you like splinters with your $200.00 meal?" we will bring our own next trip.
Came here to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We had the VIP lunch.
Excellent food and service!!
Their food just okay. Nothing special.
Wouldn't recommend to get the courses menu, is not worth to pay so much money for little simple food.
Overall service was satisfied. They are friendly.
Highly creative takes on sushi with fish you won't find anywhere else. Make sure to try the river crab
Amazing. Everything about it was amazing. From the food to the service. I recommend the omakase
Happy hour tasted like the fish that was about to be thrown away.
Reasonably priced for the high quality of food and service. We decided to do Omakase and the chef did not disappoint.
