Habana - Costa Mesa
The brunch was absolutely beautiful! I recommend going to the early bird brunch which is from 9-9:45 because it is $10 cheaper. There is a great variety of food and a good mix of traditional and Cuban foods! Definitely worth the price!
The appetizers were so tiny. We wanted to share a few things before the entres came. the ceviche was so tiny and the empanadas were as well! Came with three pinky size empanadas. I got the half chicken, has potential but the chicken was so boney and the plantains, one of my favorite additions was dry and hard! two salads were ordered, with a Modelo and sangria. Overall the bill was $141 for nothing. Definitely not going there again. Not to mention, we were outside, music was blasting and the cars that pulled in had their lights blinding us every time. Such a horrible experience on our anniversary.
best Cuban food I know west of Miami - makes it easy to eat great in Orange Co
So happy we found this place! Kitchen opened late EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS
Food was extremely delicious. Although it is a buffet, nothing was cold and everything tasted fresh. Our server didn’t seem to be too knowledgeable about things and it was quite awkward dealing with her, maybe she’s new? The blood orange Paloma was so refreshing. Only negative thing is that the restaurant told Open Table that I was a no show for my reservation which was not true. I don’t know what the mix up was but that was disappointing to hear. I believe Open Table was able to resolve everything. Anyways, I will definitely be back.
Great place for celebrations.
My wife and I really enjoyed our Saturday night post-Valentine's dinner at Habana. It was our first time, and we will definitely be returning. We started with a couple cocktails which were excellent. We ordered the calamari/conch fritter appetizer and the sauces, one creamy, one salsa-like, were excellent. My wife ordered the shrimp and scallops served over a bed of rice (risotto?) and bell peppers. It had a delicious spiciness, but was a delicate dish. I had the pork oso-bucco, which was filling and delicious over mashed potatoes. We ran out of room for desert - but they looked tremendous.
Loved this place, the only thing we did not like was how they moved us from our reserved table because there was already another party waiting for that same table. They moved us after we finished paying.
Great service and also great food! It’s such an intimate place for you and your loved one, and the ambience is just wonderful.
Always a pleasure eating at Havana in Costa Mesa. The service , delicious food and yummy sangria are top notch.
First time here for a pre Valentine’s Day dinner, it’s romantic, foods great, amazing waiter service. Will definitely be coming back soon
I ordered the Cuban Chopped Salad with chicken and was not really sure if there was any dressing on it - it was very scarce.
The service at Habana is amazing! We had Sam as our waiter and he was great along with the manager, Kayla- so sweet and friendly!
Overall, we would come back again!!
We enjoyed the meal and ambience.
The place was definitely jumping. Great salsa music, dark, sexy interior with lots of Cuban character. Service was SLOW and a little apathetic; but the food and decent wine list (with generous pours) generally made up for that. The croquetas are a very hearty, comfort-starter! Crispy on the outside with oozy cheese and smoky ham inside. The sauce and pickled onions cut the richness thoughtfully. The chicken empanadas were baked, which was a surprise since in the Caribbean we fry them, but they were tasty. Skip to too-sweet sauce that comes on the side. The crema over them was a wash. Didn’t add or take anything away from the flaky crust and savory filling. The gambas al ajillo were plump and perfectly cooked. The sauce came with croutons that soaked up the garlic oil; but were stale. Still, dip your pan dulce in that oil for another dimension of yum. Tostones are a matter of taste; and these had none. They were too thick and appeared to have only been fried once. The jalapeño dip that accompanies them gave the platanos some life; but I quickly abandoned them. Too heavy and starchy. Next time, I’ll try an entree plato. The ropa viejo passed me and looked amazing!
Excellent food. Tough to read small print on menu given the dim lighting.
Dinner at Habana's in Costa mesa was great! Our party of 5 enjoyed the variety of drink and food items. Super fun!
Dinner was fabulous. However, it is a little too dark in the restaurant so hard to see the menu. Maybe just a little more candlelight would be better.
Fun energetic restaurant with great cocktails and great food for sharing
Great place to go for Sunday brunch. Good atmosphere and good quality of food. A little disappointed on the quality of service. I had to wait for ever for a coffee refills and check. Waitress spent more time socializing with staff then taking care of customers.
Fun place for dinner with friends. The food was good and had a nice variety. Our server, Sean, was very attentive and had great suggestions. Decor and ambiance were nice. Location is a bit off the beaten path (little strip mall next to a parking lot), but is not noticeable once you're inside.
Smaller than the Irvine location this is still a great place for dinner whether romantic or family nice size patio with heaters when necessary, plates available at the bar excellent service, good food & drinks. Shares The Lab parking lot & bathrooms.
Our server was so rude! Gave us attitude when we asked for plastic utensils. Never came by to check on us. Heard her asking the other table around us but would purposely skip us. I called out to her a couple times and she just acted like she didn’t hear us. We drove two hours to try this place out...and we got a bad taste but not because of the food....
It had been quite some time since we’d been here and planned a late night dinner. What struck us right away was the noise level. The music was too loud, especially as it was not being played through a quality sound system. We could hardly hear ourselves and it really made the experience horrible. Our server was great, very quick and attentive. The food was the biggest disappointment- we barely ate 4-5 bites and just couldn’t finish. We had the Spanish flatbread, the crust overdone and hard, along with the peppered shrimp and scallops dish, which tasted fishy as if the scallops weren’t fresh. We wrapped up our food and got out of there as quickly as we could. No longer does this restaurant deliver a quality experience.
The food was great, the feel of the place was majestic, and the service was excellent. Definitely would recommend. My date and I had a lovely time.
My high school friend from Philadelphia ( class of ‘79) was visiting for business. We were recommended to come here. I loved the Costa Mesa original 24 year old restaurant due to friendly hipster ambience, cool setting, youthful vibe and in the AntiMall Lab. We ate dinner at the bar. The bar tender gave us great recommendations. Vegetarian empanada, tuna tartare, clams, mussels dish... all amazing. I hear the Habana at the Spectrum is the opposite kind of vibe. What I call trendy, high ceiling modern Las Vegas vibe. Someone at my hotel said that was his favorite location !
3rd time here. Go before 10am to receive the early bird special. ;)
My wife and I enjoyed our anniversary here and had such a great time. Great bartender to begin and an excellent server who made our night special. Unbeatable atmosphere and great service and food.
Great experience, amazing food, fabulous service!!
Love this place! Great food and our server was fantastic.
Thank you for making my birthday celebration so wonderful :)
The food was great, atmosphere was nice. Loved the patio seating. The only thing I didn’t like was the two hour table hold limit, we were 2 minutes past and the waiter was standing there glaring at us to leave. Will definitely come back when it’s less packed to see if that makes any difference.
It was so dark inside the restaurant that people were using their phone's flashlight feature to read the menu.
The waitress was attentive.
We ordered two appetizers, three entrees and a side dish.
The appetizers were OK. The chicken appetizer was nice, but they served three to two people.
None of the entrees were outstanding. The paella was nice, but had more liquid than optimal. The beef was OK, but it was stringy and hard to separate. The pork belly had a good flavor. The side dish was bland.
The meal was not really memorable food-wise and was not inexpensive (even taking into account that we ordered extra to try more).
The restaurant does not have a bathroom inside.
I have had better Cuban food in Irvine, recently, for a cheaper price, and I could see the menu without using my phone. I really wanted to like this place. It is eclectic and different. It has a nice bar maybe that is the selling point
Unique menu, great ambiance, a little noisy, but a very good experience,..
Excellent food of choice and exceptional service;)
Service and ambience was great! My wife and enjoy enjoyed the cocktails a lot. The food was so so. We got the lechon, the meat was a bit dry. Also got the skirt steak, the flavors were good, but a bit on the tough side. Expected the meat dishes to be a bit better.
Service was not good we did not get our appetizers till after our main course
Had to ask what happen and no explanation they just brought it after our main course no apologies
Just drop and ran- we didn’t even want it at that point.
Never asked if we wanted a refill on cocktails or drinks when glasses empty.
Was huge a disappointment after past visits
First time here and it was magical! Spend the evening to celebrate my sister's birthday. We enjoyed the patio with an AMAZING server named Sean. I am a server also and I really appreciate people who are attentive, polite, and authentic. Thank you, Sean!!
The light level was very low. We, and others, had to use our cell phone’s flashlight app to read the menus. I complained to the manager about the lighting and when we got the bill they had given us a very substantial discount! I’ve been to the Costa Mesa location many times as well as the Irvine Spectrum location and they both have always been great. This event was an anomaly but they handled it very well.
A little noisy. Next time I will request a n indoor table.
Disappointed that no points were awarded through open table.
