Grünauer offers a classic Viennese gasthaus menu in the beautiful, historic Freighthouse. Located just north of Union Station in KC's premier dining and arts neighborhood- The Crossroads, Grünauer has been serving authentic Austrian and Central European cuisine since 2010 (with a focus on German and Hungarian as well). A beautiful biergarten, a gorgeous full bar and a lofted event space all add to the ambience and character of this KC classic. Make your reservation today! Classic dishes such as Hungarian beef gulasch (goulash), wiener schnitzel, apple strudel and more are always available. Frequent seasonal changes to our menu allow us to incorporate local produce, hiqh quality proteins and other items that are not available year round.

      Went with friends. Great service, food and nice atmosphere. Nice variety of food. All persons in our party enjoyed their meals. Continues to be a KC classic you don’t want to miss.

      A wonderful menu of Austrian cuisine right down to Austrian Schnapps . The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful in suggesting items to consider. We've eaten at the sister restaurant in Vienna and found the food very much on par with the original. It was our anniversary so we ate more adventurous than normal, but intend to return to try their goulash, knuckle and other great menu items.

      We have always loved Grunauer---but yesterday's visit was SO disappointing. It started when our table wasn't ready---totally understandable because we arrived about 45 minutes early because we were SO hungry LOL. No problem, so we took a seat at the bar and were served by the rudest bartender. He acted like he hated us. No emotion, no smile, no welcome, nothing. Very awkward. Also gave me room temperature water--not sure who wants that?! Then, I tried asking for ice from another lady (who ended up being our server when we were finally seated at the restaurant) and she was so rude and acted put-out about giving me ice (which I sort of understand b/c she's not actually the bartender, but she was like "I'll tell them" but then ended up bringing the ice anyway.) We were then seated and found out she was our server and I was like oh great. Just zero emotion, very unfriendly, very off. So strange. The literal only time she was tolerable was when she brought the bill---likely hoping for a good tip. I was just really sad honestly b/c we always love Grunauer---you can not find a better meal on a Monday night than their Jaegerschnitzel. Just food from Heaven literally---so good. But, TBH, we love a good, upscale venue and experience, and Grunaer was *not it.*. They need major training on what service is and how to greet customers. Disappointing. We won't be back for a long while---until we are freaking out and needing a Monday-night Jaegerschnitzel again....

      They have a parking lot for starters, great service, our server knew what everything was and even made recommendations! The food was fantastic, we had several people and everyone enjoyed the food.

      We went with friends who had not been there before and our server, AJ, did a fantastic job of explaining every item on the menu to them. He made some suggestions that were taken and he was correct with all of them. Our friends were so happy with diner that they cannot wait to go back. I would say that if you are unsure of what to order, please ask your server who will be glad to assist and explain the menu.

      Sorry I don't remember our waitress's name but she was fabulous. We always enjoy going to restaurant. Try to go at least once a month. It is my husband's favorite restaurant.
