Grünauer offers a classic Viennese gasthaus menu in the beautiful, historic Freighthouse. Located just north of Union Station in KC's premier dining and arts neighborhood- The Crossroads, Grünauer has been serving authentic Austrian and Central European cuisine since 2010 (with a focus on German and Hungarian as well). A beautiful biergarten, a gorgeous full bar and a lofted event space all add to the ambience and character of this KC classic. Make your reservation today! Classic dishes such as Hungarian beef gulasch (goulash), wiener schnitzel, apple strudel and more are always available.       Quite a treat! Excellent Viennese fare of all types. We had the bread flight, Rohnensalat (beet), Bauernschmaus and Krustenbraten.. All of it was outstanding -- then we had sherbet trio -- They also had a wide variety of great wines and European beers.

      Grunauer was delicous. The staff did their best to accomodate me and my food allergies, taking the time to check and double check on dishes to ensure I received something I could eat that would not send me to the hospital. The food was delicious. I truly and deeply appreciate all the care they took on my meal and with me to do this. Eating out with allergies can be very difficult, especially when you travel. Thank you Grunauer for taking the time and the care with me on this.

      I’d like to give our visit last night five stars, but I have to give four as it look 15 minutes once we were seated for a server to come over. When my entree was finally delivered, it took another 10-15 minutes for the other three members of our party to get their entrees. The flavor and presentation of the food was great. The bartender was terrific as usual. When I made the reservation, I noted that it was my husband’s birthday. I also told the waitress when we were seated. I’m not sure if you recognize special occasions, but it would have been a nice touch.

      We love the food and we try something new every time we go. The service is always great! The staff are knowledgeable and have recommendations if you’re having trouble deciding.

      My favorite restaurant in Kansas City! Everything is always delicious, and the atmosphere is perfect. We always look forward to trying the different bread offerings, and the sachertorte is just like in Vienna! The goulash is my favorite main dish, with a side of red cabbage. The service is always great, as well.

      Great choice for German food. Sat in the bar area that was a bit noisy at times but enjoyed the dining experience.

      Sat on the patio. Our server was attentive and offered several great recommendations. The bread service was wonderful. We had the goulash and the veggie pasta dish. Both were excellent and we both agreed we would be back for the same dishes in the near future.
