The food was good and I think the set menu is good value. Things did feel a bit rushed. As soon as you put your knife and fork down they took the plates.
Great food and service
Beautiful setting, great for friends or family. Lovely oysters.
First time to the German Gymnasium and I was so impressed! Amazing venue, excellent service and the food was gorgeous. The German Gin and Tonic was delicious. I was particularly impressed that we weren't rushed off our table after 2 hours. Our booking was at 2.15pm and perhaps it was quieter in the afternoon so we managed to have a lovely leisurely lunch with dessert and coffee no pressure. It was a delightful experience and we will be back very soon.
The food and venue were very good but some of the service was very poor. I had my elbow physically pushed out of the way by the waitress to place the bill on the table. She then returned to the table 1 minute later with the card machine and asked if we were ready to pay. Both my wife and I still had a glass of wine unfinished. I think the desire to get us off the table so it could be used by someone else was rude and unnecessary. We had only had the table 75 mins and hadn’t been informed beforehand of a limited time.
Everything was fantastic but the cocktails were simple amazing. Tom Ford and Channel, a genius idea
A great place to meet and enjoy good cuisine and conversation
Service and food was good but it was quite noisy. Overall we had a pleasant experience.
Lovely meal upstairs at the German Gymnasium this evening with my eldest son. I had a train to catch and we had an hour to do dinner....the food was excellent and the service was superb. We did a 3 course meal in 50 minutes (not our normal time for 3 courses, thankfully, but mightily impressed with the service and sheer helpfulness of the staff). Excellent. Would recommend.
Amazing ambience and feel to the restaurant- decorated beautifully! There wasnt a wide variety of choice on the menu but the food that we had was exquisite! We shared the duck which was carved at the table and me and my partner agreed that it was the best duck we have ever had! Just sad I didnt have room to sample their desserts!
Whilst the food was generally unremarkable, eating at the German Gymnasium was still a positive experience. An excellent wine list, cheerful and attentive staff and an excellent ambiance goes a significant way to overcoming the disappointment regarding the food! That said, the Black Forest ham starter was excellent, as were the sweet potato chips.
First experience dining at this place, very impressed and will be returning soon. Thanks.
Good food, nice building, good service to begin with - but after they delivered the dessert menu we were left alone for a long time (15 minutes?). By the time the waitress came back we'd gone off the idea of a dessert.
The food was excellent. What stood out was the lovely manner and helpfulness of all those who were involved in welcoming us, showing us to our table and serving us throughout
Great dining room.
Great spot, only thing is the tables are a little cramped, but other than that, its lovely for lunches or dinner.
I like the buzz and feel of this restaurant. The food is different and and well presented.
Service was great and were were pleasantly surprised by the Monday discount!
We were upstairs which was quieter for a group of 5.
Good for celebrations
super cozy! we enjoyed a lot the dinner on Saturday
We were there to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday. The staff were attentive, the atmosphere buzzy. The background music was at a good level making it easy to have a conversation. There was excellent choice on the menu and the staff were accommodating of specific likes/requirements. The portions were generous and the food very tasty. If I had a criticism it would be that my steak was over cooked.
The items that were readymade were good. For example the Black-forest ham and the Red House beer.
Was very delicious and the pre theatre menu was good value!
Staff are attentive. However the restaurant is overall slightly on the noiser side
Very interesting atmosphere here. Very lovely post work drinks crowd at the bar and beautiful tables for dinner. I’d sit upstairs for the wow factor. We really enjoyed our meal here and the service was excellent. More than excellent in fact. We were going to a concert nearby and I got the time wrong. We were forced to cut short our meal (we were having the set menu) and run out. They could not have been nicer, producing the bill at a minute’s notice, not charging us the full set price, which they were perfectly entitled to do, and generally making a bad situation much better. So professional. Thank you!
Good food, good wine list, great ambiance and attentive staff - what more could you want. Not the cheapest if you are after a quick meal before catching a train but great if you have a bit more time to linger. Recommended.
Great venue, good food and reasonable service.
Superb service, lovely interiors interesting twist on German cuisine thoroughly enjoyed
If you like German food this is a great place to go. Authentic beer, sauerkraut and schnitzels. Decent service and relatively affordable. Would recommend
Went here for brunch, had a great experience! The food was good and the Prosecco kept coming. Will definitely be back
Good ambience and service, but the food was a bit disappointing. The potato soup was good, but the bratwurst in the main course was rather tasteless.
We were a party of 14, accomadated upastairs . The restaurant is a beautiful space with a cosy ambiance considering the size.
Our waiter was outstanding, discreet, friendly good wine recommendations. Food was great quality. Ice cream desert had fantastic flavour.
We had a drink in the bar area afterwards and again lovely service. We were the last to leave!
Fab birthday lunch at GG. Great service and lovely food
Love this restaurant not overly expensive with quality food and wine
This was a reunion of two schoolfriends after 45 years, and we were delighted with the beautiful surroundings, quiet music, very attentive and knowledgeable staff and the delicious meal. Value for money was exceptional as the lunch deal was exactly enough. I would highly recommend German Gymnasium.
Really slow service. Wine poured too quickly / glasses refilled too quickly. Just put the bloody bottle on the table. Schnitzels should be based thin, not a huge wedge of veal. Plus was overly salty.
Great place to eat, good food & wine menu’s. Staff friendly, helpful and attentive at all times, service was excellent! Great value for money - Highly Recommended!
Great meal and drinks as usual. Good service and decent vegetarian menu.
This place get's better and better. It has a terrific buzz, partly because it is so close to Kings Cross St Pancras, which means you've got people en route to Edinburgh and Paris. A real mix of people - friends, business colleagues and families. The menu maintains a strong mittel Europa flavour - good flavours and not too fussy. The salmon tartare was a good starter. The fixed price lunch menu is really good value. Service was friendly, helpful and surprisingly human for saying the place was really quite busy. Good acoustics meant we could chat quietly. The wines were a little pricey but the 2017 Riesling was interesting, light enough for lunchtime and went down well. Well explained so we were prepared for the slight tingle (a bit vinho verde).
The restaurant is set in an amazing venue, where the service was attentive without being intrusive whilst serving German classic dish with a modern interpretation (Leberkas und spiegleie).
Ridiculous wobbly table, like some cheap bar. Waitress was very classy but let down by cramped conditions & table. Duck breast not good enough for the money. Disappointing visit after 5 previously good visits. Step up please.
Wonderful experience with truly excellent service. Highly recommended restaurant that did not fall short in any way.
Lovely spot for brunch
