Join our live Oompah band dates: September 19th, September 26th, October 3rd, October 10th, October 17th and October 24th. Plus, Chef Alex has curated a limited edition Oktoberfest Spezialitäten, showcasing the very best Oktoberfest foods. Star dishes include: Hendl mit kartoffelsalat (A half roast chicken with traditional German-style potato salad) Scwheinebraten (A pork belly roll roast with beer sauce, cabbage and dumplings) Bavarian Brotzeit (A Bavarian version of a classic charcuterie plate)

This July, German Gymnasium is celebrating our 10 year anniversary—and we’re marking the occasion the only way we know how: with steins, schnitzels, and a week-long Bavarian bash we’re calling Tänzelfest. Expect mid-sommer menu specials, with our team dressed head to toe in lederhosen and dirndl. On Friday, join us for the Oompah Band performance from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

A great venue but let down by really mediocre food. When I go out and spend £50 a head I expect to get better food than I could eat at home. Instead it was far worse. Glutinous asparagus soup, sausages that looked from Tesco's budget range, tasteless sauerkraut lumped together with mash, all presented like a school dinner. My guest had vegan currywurst and chips which looked equally awful. Has the chef ever been to Germany? The service from Juni and the beer were excellent though.

This is my go to place when I get the Eurostar. I almost have one of the Schnitzel recipes and white Sancerre.

Great food, slow service (even at a quiet time) and waiters seemed unable to answer questions on the menu items even after having asked the kitchen.

Always a great atmosphere here and very handy for Kings Cross if waiting for a train as easy to leave your luggage while you dine. Friendly efficient staff and best to book.

Overall experience poor with £12 per diner service charge (£36) for table of 3 excessive and not good value. Food average for price. Tables small space and almost sitting with next table as so ,closely packed together. Would not recommend or visit again. Overpriced.

I really wanted to like this place, but it really didn't live up to expectations. The food (breakfast) was well presented but did not meet the description - cheap white-bread toast is not what one expects at this price-point, and the 'fresh juices' were from cartons - we could see this clearly as we were seated by the bar, and not offered a lighter, brighter table by the window. Coffee was pretty average and poorly made - a flat white should not be 'frothy', for example. Service is pretty poor (particularly given that the place was virtually empty at 9am on a Thursday morning). Our waiter did not know the menu - despite all of the breakfast dishes having names I had to point out 'Berlin' to him on the menu. Tap water was not offered until we asked. Overall, fairly good food, but poor service and poor value means I probably won't make a return visit.

The ambience and the food were good, but I'm not quite sure what this place is trying to be. It's not a bierkeller as the awful high bass background music stifles any wish to remain in the restaurant for an extended period of time (my recommendation is to sit outside if you're able). When the music actually stopped for a very briefed period you could hear people talking and enjoying themselves. Management take note. Bearing in mind that the staff were expecting the proceeds from a 13.5% service charge they didn't deserve it. None of them seemed fulfilled in their jobs, were curt, and lacked the ability to smile. (There was one exception who appeared to be a manager/lead). The price is about average for Central London but remember you're paying over £60 for a German sausage and mash and a pint of lager for two people including their ridiculous tip that'll probably increase to 15% before long. I doubt if I'll go back there but might try Steins Berlin Restaurant in South Ken in a few weeks, it appears to have an almost identical menu, to see if is any better. Maybe the staff are happier there?
