Galvez Bar & Grill
The Sunday Brunch was amazing! Can't wait to return, hopefully they'll be serving at Easter.
Food was cold and service very slow (1 hour to come out)
We did have to wait about 10 minutes before finally seating ourselves. But once we had our server she was wonderful and the food was really good ...a little pricey but still good.
John (Bartender) and Lois (server) are the maim reason why I continue to come back.
Our waitress Kristina was wondeful, very attentive and on top of things. Our glasses were never empty.
The food was delicious, the desserts were as tasteful as beautiful.
Lots of people dining this day but service was great. The senior discount helped and will definitely be back
Excellent selection of delicious food. Waitresses are friendly.
We had Sunday brunch. The variety, preparation and service were all excellent. Mimosas kept flowing and we never felt hurried
After the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant Brunch in San Diego, I thought there was none greater but maybe I was wrong!
This is definitely the best Brunch I have ever been to. The food was magnificent. Service perfect. Beautiful setting. Just the perfect meal.
Hope to be there every Sunday and cannot wait to go back.
Went for a going away dinner, expecting all you can eat Gulf Shrimp, well that's not what we were served, very disappointed.
The all you can eat shrimp were really good. The shrimp got hotter as the additional servings came out!
Everything was perfect shrimp was excellent each time we ask for more we were given amble enough , service was great desert brownie was awesome too ! Only wished for more coleslaw and piano wasn’t playing .
We were unimpressed with the food. The food was not particularly hot and the taste was just average. This is the first time we have dined at this establishment and we expected better.
Nice setting Modern Nice food Our waiter was a bit distracted that take down the score a bit
Took friends for the first time and they loved it. Our 3rd time there and you didn’t disappoint (food wise). Your servers are not consistent & spot on though and need better customer service training.
The Sunday brunch was adequate. Not as impressive as I had anticipated. It did have a Southern slant with gumbo, seafood etc which was a nice touch. Our anniversary table was facing a wall and very cramped.
Yummy food, long lines, wish the waiter would come around more often. However, we would go back for sure!
Teodore took very good care of us. The filet and red snapper were very delicious. The piano and cello played excellent to complete the experience.
Dining at this historic hotel had been on our list and I’m glad we did it for a special birthday. However, we don’t need to go back. Our food was fine but bot really worth the price: $150 for lunch for four.
Elegant place to eat and stay...the staff was awesome as well!
We had reservations for the $75.00 a plate Valentine dinner. There were no flowers on the tables. Absolutely no ambience. Only 1 appetizer option which was raw tuna. Not everyone likes that. The soup was so rich I could not eat it. The halibut was just ok...my husband requested to eat if the menu and it was ok..never had brown gravy in a beef tenderloin, but that was ok. the strawberry shortcake were two 2” muffins that were so squishy I could not cut them. Like underdone bread! They were not shortcakes I talked to the manager and all she said was “well no one else has complained”!!!! My Valentine dinner was very disappointing. I would think that anything from the Galvez should be excellent, but not the dinner. All the waiters were great.
The atmosphere was okay, but the price of the meal was ridiculously high.
Always a great experience - the atmosphere could not be better, and the presentation of brunch dishes is fantastic. Only drawback here is the setup of the certain food stations does not allow effective lines for guests - rude guests will cut through given the wait times.
Could (should) be very good but fails.
Overall the hotel is lovely with impressive grounds and lobby.
The bar atmosphere is great with good Barmen but no bottled Tonic for a proper Gin & Tonic (draft tonic is rubbish). Two guys playing the piano and double bass were excellent.
Food in the restaurant was uninspiring; Bacon Wrapped Shrimp was overcooked with too much sauce taste of the shrimp completely lost. Market Fish (Red Snapper) again overcooked, a shame for this lovely fish. The restaurant wasn't busy but there was a wedding taking place - maybe this had taken the Chef's attention.
Beautiful Historical Hotel, fresh seafood and great service!
Food was awesome, service was good but not outstanding, ambiance was very good. We dined there for my wife’s birthday which I indicated both on open table reservation and via email but nothing was ever said or mentioned. Will certainly go back but with lower expectations.
Great brunch! Well worth it! I would highly recommend this to someone traveling to Galveston.
Venelin is a greater server and great customer service. food is great.
Went for the whiskey and wine tasting on Sunday night. The service was great and the setting was intimate. Food was very good and well paired with the wine/whiskey.
Had dinner first night of our stay at the hotel. Service starting with drinks at the bar (bartender made an awesome Classic Margarita that my wife said was one of the best she's had) thru dinner with our waitress being attentive and responsive was excellent. Wife enjoyed local "redfish" that was very fresh and well prepared with au gratin potatoes. Great Gumbo and so was the burger. The restaurant is located in the historic hotel lobby that is beautifully decoratedand had a Nice vibe. Excellent start to our stay!
Very well prepared and excellent service
Went for happy hour..Our waiter was good..Disappointed with the happy hour menu.. Just one option..Last Year they had a much better selection.
Not sure we will go back.
Very unpleasant dinner. There were maybe three tables having dinner and then a conference in another room. I don’t think our server was actually a server. She couldn’t answer any questions about the food and didn’t seem to understand much. Service was slow. Food was ok but since the server didn’t know the menu 2/4 of our dishes weren’t compatible with my allergies. Prices seemed ok for what the restaurant was striving for but were very steep for the mediocre to poor experience we had. I was with my mother so I couldn’t complain without upsetting her. We also were staying at the hotel so thought this would be a nice and easy dinner. In retrospect I would have chosen a different restaurant on the island. I haven’t filled out my stay feedback yet but will be bringing this up there as well.
We go for the all you can eat shrimp and they are always hot and so yummy. Lightly battered and they don't mind bringing you more! We have found our new happy place. thanks for brining the special back.
Food excellent particularly for a special NYE menu. Wish we could have heard music better
We were there for the Sunday brunch the Sunday before New Year’s, everything was absolutely perfect, highly recommend when in Galveston
back wrap shrimp with bbq sayce is the best.
Awesome service, Brandy and your trainee, forgot her name, were excellent. The food also excellent. Will be back.
Sunday Brunch was really nice in Texas standards. We are from New Orleans, so hard to compare-lol! We had to ask for a server and when he came, we felt he was probably a stand in due to staff shortage. He was personable though and served us well. Prime rib and your honeycomb were your outstanding items! Champagne was great!
Everything was perfect for a little birthday celebration! The food was delicious, waitstaff was attentive and friendly, & the ambiance and decor was nice. It's Christmas season so the gingerbread houses were displayed in the lobby which was breathtaking! The birthday dessert was comped and the valet parking was free for diners. That is something you don't see much of anymore! If I had to say one teeny tiny negative thing, it's that the bar is too close to the restaurant and the bar crowd got a littly loud and rowdy at times. But that would not keep me from going back!
Brought our parents who were visiting for the weekend and we all loved it!
