Fantastic food and service as usual. My wife and I love our date nights here. Service is always top notch and the filet is heavenly!
We have gone to Frankie’s for years and have always loved to be able to “splurge” for a nice meal. I’m really disappointed to be doing a negative review. We love how the steaks are cooked at high temps and have a nice char. There was no char and steaks we’re not cooked to preference. Salad was literally lettuce and 1 tomato and a half a piece of cucumber. The mashed potatoes are typically my fav side and they were runny and not to mention tiny portion. We ordered Brussel sprouts and there was No bacon and super dry. We couldn’t even eat them. Server asked if we wanted dessert and we all typically chomp at the bit for creme brûlée but we couldn’t fathom spending an additional $30 for the table to have dessert. Left disappointed and went straight to a local ice cream shop. I know inflation is real and they’re probably having different vendors etc but portions are even smaller now and spending more for something that is okay at best. I sincerely hope they can do better soon so that we can continue to splurge a few times a year for a nice meal.
My expectations was higher than what I got. Service was outstanding.
We didn’t get waited on. I had to ask the bartender for drinks. We didn’t even get to eat. They comped us with gift cards and we went home hungry. This place has gone down hill as well as their prices going up.
We visited for a birthday dinner. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The pineapple martinis and Sangria were excellent. The food was amazing.
The waitress was great. Steak was phenomenal. Sides were undercooked and the chicken dish was almost inedible. Drinks were good. For the money there are better options…but it’s the experience I guess
We hated being placed in the back room! Brought an out of town guest and our friend totally missed the experience of the restaurant!
FR NEVER disappoints. Amazing food experience every time!!!
Another overall good experience at Frankie's. Had a few minor hiccups on this weeknight visit- couple of our scallops in our scallop appetizer were a little gritty (maybe sand from the shells of something), my Cowboy Ribeye was ordered medium (which is usually perfect and still slightly red/pink at Frankie's), but this time was a little over medium. I did not say anything or send my steak back. And the coffees that were ordered with our desserts were served cold, but our server did make a fresh pot for us, but just wasn't ready until we were done with the dessert. Still was an overall good experience, but suspect it was just an off night for Frankie's.
Everything at Frankie's was excellent the food, service and atmosphere were all great
The atmosphere is like a New York style steakhouse. The service from the bartender was friendly and professional, as well as the table service. The steaks were cooked perfectly and delicious. It is without question my favorite steakhouse.
Excellent meal. 5 star steaks!!
Food was delicious. Steaks were cooked to perfection.
Food and drinks were terrible and way overpriced for the area and quality. Service was nice but everything was slow. It took over an hour to get first course- salads. Despite being a steak place, the steak was terrible. Overcooked and lacking in flavor - showed a lack of skill in the kitchen. I felt we ate bad catering from the plating, the table, style or quality of cooking, and the watered down drinks.
Excellent all around! Loved it and will be back soon.
The food is pricey, but generally good.
The service we received was the worst I’ve ever had at any restaurant, including fast food. Absolutely terrible. We will not be going back.
The food is first class. Dinning experience was great.
This was not our first time dining here. Unfortunately, they seem to be a victim staff shortages and inexperienced employees. The food was fair. Our steaks were over done and the food came out in spurts. It’s a shame because this use to be a great dining experience.
Enjoyed Christmas Day Dinner at Frankie's. Our server Amy was exceptional!! A pure pleasure! Informative, engaging and a wonderful sense of humor! Enjoyed her immensely! Food was fabulous and servings sizes were huge!! Love Frankie's for ANY occasion!
The steak was terrific and Oysters Rock outstanding. But a shrimp cocktail with only three shrimp is pathetic. Five is a minimum at any price, or just take it off the menu.
Pretty terrible for the price point. Raw oysters tasted like they were frozen. Potatoes Au Grautin were loaded with just butter. The “broiled” brussel sprouts were soggy. The steaks were good but over salted. We’ve been here several times before and this Xmas-eve dinner was subpar.
Our niece and nephew gave us a gift certificate to Frankie Rowlands. The oysters Rockefeller are the best around. Everything was delicious…soup, steak, crab cakes, potatoes and brussel sprouts. Ordered cream brûlée to go and then totally forgot it and left it in the hotel refrigerator😢
The only thing I would say that needed attention was the brussel sprouts were not very hot. Other than that everything was great.
The steak was a 10 out of 10. The sides while good were not nearly as good as in prior visits. The Molten Chocolate Cake served for dessert tasted like a microwaved mug cake. They did remove it from the bill. For 20 plus years this has been my go to for fine dining in Roanoke. It seems to get a little worse each time I visit. I will look for other options in the future.
They’re awesome. Chad was a really good and all the servers.
Wonderful ambiance and delicious food
We decided to come for our 8 year anniversary. The food was amazing. The service was outstanding. Only issue I see is how close everyone is. We had zero privacy, And could hear everyone's conversations instead of the music. We mentioned it was our anniversary when I reserved the table and nothing special for it. No dessert or a "happy anniversary" but overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10. For food and service!
We’ve went to Frankie’s ever since they’ve been open and this was by far the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had anywhere. We had reservations for my birthday dinner for 6 people at 7. We were seated immediately but waited for over 20 minutes to have the waitress (who was very unfriendly and just looked miserable) take our beverage order. We waited another 20 minutes to get them. After that we waited another 30+ minutes for her to come back and take our food order. At this time we placed more orders for beverages because not even our water had been refilled at this point. After waiting another 30 minutes without the waitress coming to check on us even once my husband went to the bar to order our drinks and the bartender was extremely rude and told us we had to take it up with our waitress. At this point my husband argued with the bartender and had to pay for the drinks we finally got. Finally at about 9:30 our food came out cold. It was disgusting and super disappointing. After we ate some because we were starving we just asked for our check and didn’t even celebrate my birthday with dessert because we just wanted to get the hell out of there. Also there were multiple people wearing t-shirts and shorts in the restaurant, I thought the dress code was business casual. I’m not sure what had happened but this restaurant has went extremely down hill, I’m not even one to usually complain but after spending $600 on our tab and for the service and wait staff to act that way I don’t think we’ll be going back any time soon, if ever. Which sucks because it used to be our favorite restaurant in the area.
We made a 7pm birthday reservations at Frankies on a Friday night. A server approached and took a drink order several minutes later. A second server came for the same drink order. The second server ended up being the primary. She specifically told us to save room for the complimentary birthday desserts. The crab dip app was delicious. We ordered 2 Filets, the med rare was cooked fine. The medium well was completely charred. The baked Cavatappi and cheese was a boat of grease and noodles. The brussel sprouts were good. The desserts were never mentioned again and we were brought the checks before we could ask. I have since heard the downtown location is “better” Mon-Wed and the Salem location is preferred on the weekends.
Absolutely superb in every respect! Every appetizer and entree was remarkable. The steak was world--make that galaxy--class. The service was attentive and professional. The atmosphere was both refined yet intimate. I rate the noise level as ebullient because it was our table making all the noise--a merry event indeed.
Noise level was terrible. It was difficult to converse as a party of two. It took over two hours start to finish. Slow service start to finish. Food was tepid. Salad was wilted. Not our usual experience at FR. The Salem location rates so much higher in our opinion. Downtown location needs to make some changes.
We always dine here when we are in Roanoke. The experience is always outstanding.
Usually excellent but this time was surprisingly sub par. Service was not great and returned a bad steak and they refused to remove it from the check. Disappointed for the first time here
This was my wife's and my first return to Frankie's in over 12 years (since moving from Roanoke to Atlanta).
Our server, Lindsay, was FANTASTIC! She was personable and knowledgeable (though she had worked there only 2 months).
My meal (chilled lump crab meat; lobster bisque and 10-oz filet) were ALL DELICIOUS! The seasoning on the filet was tasty and it was cooked a perfect "medium". However, my wife was not so satisfied with her meal (crab meat in cheese sauce, Caesar salad and scallops). The sauces were too overpowering with her crab meat and scallops. The dressing was not very good on her salad.
We both LOVED the bread and the Yukon whipped potatoes.
The traditional Cosmopolitan vodka drinks were the BEST EVER! Kudos to the bartender!
A hidden gem in Downtown Roanoke! The best filet I’ve had in ages! Impeccable service in a very classy environment.
Hubby and I ate at Frankie Rowland's Steakhouse before a concert date at Berglund Center. We had a great experience. Our reservation (we'd booked two months in advance) was for 5:00 and we were seated at 5:30. Our server, Laron, took great care of us throughout the night. He explained our menu options to us clearly and updated us on the status of our order as we waited. We sat next to a friendly couple who were celebrating a birthday, and because they frequented the restaurant for milestone events, they happily offered advice about sides and entrees as well. While we waited, we ordered drinks from the bar and those were terrific. I had the Hawaiian Dream martini, and hubby nursed a Long Island Iced Tea all evening. Our food was beautifully plated, served hot and ready to devour with our eyes and stomachs, and tasted heavenly. Hubby had the 14 ounce filet with the garlic mushrooms while I chose the salmon with the pecan sauce and asparagus with hollandaise. I've never tasted something so decadent! Laron boxed up our leftovers and we took those back to our hotel for a late night snack.
We had a lovely dining experience at Frankie Rowland's and will definitely go back there when in Roanoke and looking for upscale dining.
This was my first time eating at Frankie Rowland’s. I wasn’t impressed. I’ve been to Ruth’s Chris and Peter Lugar in New York and I was hoping this would be comparable. It unfortunately was not on par.
I had made reservations and we were promptly seated. The restaurant was at a quarter capacity. We were given water and bread within a minute of being seated. For the next 15 minutes we didn’t not see a member of the staff.
My wife and I were giving them a benefit of a doubt knowing most restaurants are under staffed due to Covid, but I noticed another couple who was seated before we did drinking cocktails and being waited on. We on the other hand were still drinking water and hadn’t been approached by anyone after being given the water and bread.
I finally got up and went spoke to the hostess up front to bought her of us not getting any service. She was confused and asked what I meant. I repeated to her that after being seated and given water and bread that my wife and I sat at our table for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us.
She apologized and walked to my table but by this time a server was already talking to my wife. He explained he had noticed us sitting there for quite a while without any service so he approached my wife to see how he could help. He took our cocktail orders and after already sitting around for 15 minutes we already knew what we wanted as far as food.
As far as our meal goes, the high light was the steaks that my wife and I ordered. My ribeye was delicious and my wife’s filet was decent. As my wife noted, she liked the filet’s I cook at home better. Our appetizer of Bruchetta was mediocre. The bread was extremely chewy. Our sides of were better.
To sum up this dinner, I would say it wasn’t worth the money. I expect more of a place that charges this much for food. I wish I could remember the guy who was our server because he was great. The steaks were the only thing that was worth the money. Table 50 and Billys are better.
Ask for gluten free menu and was given regular. Had to ask again for it. Waitress kind of took offense to us just ordering water Very attentive to our needs and we never had to ask for refills. Food was very good a plenty of it. Was a little pricey but overall it was a good experience
Delicious food, a bit slow (2 hours for dinner and dessert). Save for a special date as it’s pricey.
You will not find a steak any better.
Excellent service, food was delicious - including the best pecan pie I’ve ever had. I was very thankful that Frankie Rowland’s was open on Thanksgiving, and offered a wonderful traditional Thanksgiving meal. For a variety of reasons my family was not able to cook our regular Thanksgiving dinner and being able to take my elderly parents - 87 and 88 years old - out for a wonderful meal, made our holiday quite special. Thank you 😊
