A excellent restaurant, especially for a special occasion. They have a great wait staff and reasonably priced wine selection. The only negative is the limited menu, but most restaurants have been offering a limited menu during COVID-19. We had the sea bass, which tasted great. But, it was a whole fish ( really whole ), which took a special talent to access the meat. Still, we had a great experience.
We had a delightful experience. Our waitress was exceptional (6 of 5 stars), and very helpful with the menu. Friday was the night following the declaration of our National Emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak; our experience at Fortunato was a welcome beacon of light in a dark time. We will be back.
Awesome as usual. Our waiter Scott but also the other staff members are knowledgeable and kind❤️
Fortunato was fantastic, I will definitely be returning!
Absolutely wonderful ambience. The place was crowded but we didn't feel like we were crammed into a small space at all. Our server was PHENOMENAL. She checked on his regularly but was not too in our face by any means. The dishes we got came out quickly and tasted wonderful. Highly recommended!
Great food and drinks! The speck and fennel pizza with the hot honey is the best!!
Some unusual wines and fairly long list. Creative cocktails and interesting, tasty Italian style food.
Food was outstanding! We got four different dishes to share around the table and each dish was delicious!
Tasty food. Excellent service. (Kayla) Quiet atmosphere. Slightly pricy.
Awesome place to eat. Always have a wonderful dining experience. Would reconning to anyone that loves Italian food!
We went the day after Valentine's day. Our reservation was for 8:00, we were there about five minutes early and were seated right away. My wife and I both had the Maine lobster carbonara, it was excellent! We had canolli for dessert, it was very good. The service was great, attentive but not intrusive. Atmosphere was lively but not too loud to enjoy conversation. I highly recommend Fotunato.
The food just wasn’t good. Poorly prepared and bland - The chef just didn’t care and it was obvious. It seems to be a great restaurant with a terrible chef.
The overall experience was great. From the moment we came into the restaurant we were greeted with a smile. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was outstanding from the apps to the main course and the dessert. The signature cocktails were also outstanding.
Valentine’s Day celebration.
Great table with a street view. Great waiter
We love Fortunato. Highly recommend the Bronzino and the Duck Ragu.
Always a good time with great food and service....
It was great! Scott was very helpful and the food was delicious
Fortunato reminded me of the trattoria I enjoyed in Florence. The food was interesting, prepared with fresh ingredients, and of course, delicious. Presentation was aesthetically appealing as well. We ordered the bread with olive oil, the lamb meatballs, the caccio e pepe, and the shortrib. Everything was smack your lips good. Desserts consisted of the Budino and the Zeppole, also delicious. How many times can I say "delicious" but it was.
The cocktails were unusual, truly an exercise in mixology. I had the Black Manhattan, made exceptional by the addition of cardamom. My friend had the Pleasure Cruise, which was sweet enough to please her, but not too sweet. Both were worthy of a second round.
The service was also lovely--efficient but never rushed. We didn't have to ask for anything, but the server did not hover. Although I marked the noise level as "moderate" it was not loud enough to interfere with private conversation--just the sound of a busy spot. I will definitely return and this place goes on my permanent list of places to dine. For me, it was worth the 4-hour round trip to get there.
AMAZING RESTAURANT! WONDERFUL AMBIENCE, BEST DRINKS AND AMAZING FRESH MADE FOOD TO ORDER. I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS RESTAURANT. JUST MOVED HERE IN DECEMBER 2019 FROM LAS VEGAS, WE HAVE THE BEST OF THE BEST. EVERY FAMOUS CHEF HAS A RESTAURANT IN LAS VEGAS AND THIS IS JUST AS WONDERFUL AT AFFORDABLE PRICES.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS RESTAURANT, FROM THE HOSTESS, TO THE SERVERS (MADELINE IS THE BEST) TO THE MANAGEMENT. THANK YOU FORTUNATO'S FOR ALWAYS A GREAT MEAL AND AMACULENT SERVICE.
Food never disappoints and service is always top notch.
Consistently great food and service.
Food was good. Restaurant was a little loud-lots of people talking but we enjoyed the experience and even popped in Stillane.
The cocktails were amazing! Not all the food quality matches the cost. A little skimpy on portions as well.
One of Roanoke's best restaurants. There's not a bad dish on the menu. Cocktails are 10/10.
You need to be ready for the noise level - otherwise it can be overwhelming. Their pizza is always very good - some dishes for Restaurant Week were a tiny bit off the mark. First Course - Brussel sprout salad would have been better without the salami. Fava ben and fennel soup was tasty but needed salt. Second course - Octopus with olives and tomatoes was very tasty - Fried risotto was good and would have benefitted from sauce. We topped it with some of the sauce from the Octopus dish and it definitely helped. Third course - Pasta with pork sauce and four cheeses - nice hearty dish for a cold night. Braised beef cheek over polenta - the best dish of the meal. Super comfort food - well seasoned and yummy. Service was very friendly and efficient.
We tried Fortunato during Restaurant week, but decided to order off the regular menu instead of ordering the special. I had a vegetarian pasta dish and paid an extra $13.00 for freshly shaved truffles. I have to say that the truffles had no flavor whatsoever (goodbye $13), but the pasta dish was good. My friends had pizza and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband ordered a pasta dish with sausage - very good too. We have all been to Italy before and the selections here weren't considered "authentic", but proved to be closer to Italian cuisine than most American Italian restaurants. Our server was great and the wine selection is vast. The noise level was incredibly loud, lots of crying babies as well. Otherwise, good dinner.
Attractive restaurant. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Imaginative menu. Food well prepared with fresh ingredients. Would certainly go there again if in area.
Good for casual dinners, but for business too noise. Hope place can improve about that as is a great place to be
Waitress was superb! Our drinks were also excellent.
Excellent experience. Josh L. and staff are superb.
Another wonderful experience at Fortunato! The food is outstanding, as is the service, location, and value.
Seated right away, wait staff was excellent, food even better!
We absolutely loved Fortunato. The location was in an area of Roanoke that was quiet but still had some activity outside of the huge windows to make you feel you were in a vibrant area of Roanoke. The interior of the restaurant provided lots to catch the eye and the food was amazing. Such great menu choices and something for everyone! Definitely will be going back.
Excellent service and food. Wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend.
Great food and atmosphere! The entire staff is friendly and attentive. A must-try restaurant for visitors and locals alike!
Fortunato is one of my favorite restaurants in Roanoke. It is probably my favorite if I’m being honest! I’ve lived in many places with great food and I think that you could easily put this restaurant in any of them and they would strive. Great food, great service, great wine list, and great ambiance. It gets the edge because I don’t feel like I have to leave my kids at home, they are welcome earlier in the evening and that is awesome!
This is a great place for northern Italian cuisine. The wine list is also quite good, although I offer the caveat that I am partial to Chianti. Service was excellent, and the pacing of the meal was just right--time for a bit of conversation between courses but not so much time that either of us began to wonder when the next course would arrive. The grilled calamari starter was done to perfection--just a hint of al dente without any rubbery push-back.
Had great drink at Stallina next door and great food at Fortunato. Everyone told my nephew congratulations on his engagement such a great place to go and celebrate!
Really wonderful NYE! Food was exceptional and we loved our server!
