Food was not good
Marvelous and generous as ever.
We come to Newport twice a year to use our timeshare and we try to have dinner at the Five Crowns as often as possible.
The last several years we have our daughter and son in law down and celebrate my husband’s birthday.
We have never had a bad experience.
This time was exceptional in all aspects, our server felt that our food might be slow in coming out and provided us with two appetizers on the house.
The ambiance is always wonderful, the food is extraordinary and service is first class.
Look forward to coming and have never had a bad experience
Terrible! To prevent a hassle, I gave my credit card to server so that I could pay for my table. My friend insisted that we split the bill even though I made the reservation in my name and tried to get your staff to acknowledge that it was my bill to pay.
As this was a special occasion to Celebrate Life, there was nothing special about this meal or the service. A restaurant of your status and reputation only gets one chance in my book. There are too many establishments for me to spend my dollars in. I will not be returning.
Our waiter Rick took outstanding care of us. We are going to request him on our next visit.
Five Crowns is consistently delicious ... always a pleasure
Everything was terrific including the new fall menu items
Excellent all the way waitresse was attentive but not cleagy
Arrived and was created by a very pleasant young lady that actually seemed pleased that we made it on time with all the traffic
Overall always a great evening
We went to celebrate our 35th Anniversary. It was a delicious meal with excellent service.
The restaurant is quaint and exactly what you would want if you looking for that rustic, yet polished, London steakhouse vibe. However the food was tired and overpriced. I have nothing bad to say about the quality of ingredients (didn’t ask, but assuming they must be high based on price) but the execution is that of a home cook. I was expecting much more from my salmon plate, and just to make sure my dish wasn’t a fluke I tried others around the table. No seasoning, poor plating, and over all flat. When taste and texture are both off I don’t know what’s left. The wine and service was great :) If you’re looking for a particular English vibe, come here. If you’re looking to spend on food and eat well, go elsewhere.
Thanks to my mom and she
An absolutely incredible birthday meal for my girlfriend and me. Both the host and our server (Brandon) made every effort to ensure our needs were met and the food (Prime Rib and Risotto) was phenomenal. We'll definitely need to make this a regular part of any luxury dining we do in the future.
Five Crowns is highly recommended for any special occasion when you desire to be treated like royalty!
Thanks to everyone for a truly wonderful dining experience!
The food was impeccable and the service was exceptional
If you love Prime Rib, this Lawry’s restaurant is the place to go! An old school steakhouse style atmosphere creates a wonderful ambiance. Many servers have worked there 30+ years!
Our food was cold and ordinary. The salad was tasteless. We were celebrating our 10th Anniversary. We spent $200 and left feeling no need to return. We did enjoy the bar. So disappointed as we used to love going there. Sorry to have to write this review but it was a disappointment. Cold prime rib and lobster is a travesty.
Continues to be a great place for a good meal with friends and family
We have been visiting Five Crowns for 30 years. The quality of food has gone down. The prime rib was chewy and a lot of fat, the creamed spinach poor, the bread used to be great and now not appealing and where are the tablecloths?? Fish dishes served on black plates did not look appealing either. Expensive for this experience
Lobster bisque tasted like is came from the can. It had a thin cap on the top like it had been sitting and waiting for someone to order it and then reheated. Expect your waitress to pay special attention to you only if you buy an expensive bottle of something, and then apologize at the end for being “busy”.
We have enjoyed our visits to Five Crowns on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed with the ambiance, staff and food Tommy is a great asset to the restaurant. He always greets us as if we are long lost relatives and really makes you feel welcome.
Our server Sara H. was super friendly and awesome. I had the prix-fixe surf and turf menu and my fiancé hand the Henry VIII cut. For dessert we split both the soufflé and the crème brûlée. Everything was delicious...better than delicious. Best prime rib and soufflé ever!
The beef lobstertail combo was great!
The server was experienced and knowledgable. She timed the drinks and food perfectly.
The food overall wasn't great. The bread tasted stale my steak was not great. The appetizer we had crab Mash was very fishy. We won't be back.
Our $59.95 “special” prime rib was cooked properly but very tough. Very disappointing for an establishment specializing in prime rib. The remainder of the meal, including the lobster was delicious. The salad was just ok but would have been better without the thick slices of raw carrot. The desserts were also very nice and out server was top notch. We joined the Lawry’s club but will think twice about going back. Hi really experience was middle of the road.
I booked a table for 2 for our actual 50th anniversary. We arrived at 5:35 for 5:45 reservation. Even though restaurant was nearly empty we were told our server wasn't ready for us. We enjoyed a very overpriced martini & glass of wine at the bar then went to our table on our own. No hostess came to us. We were taken to a tiny table with bright lights shining on us in back dining room instead of front room that had more ambiance. Music in background kept going offline & wired computer voice announcements took its place. Our waiter was attentive but very strange acting & could not stop trying to to upsell us on the loyalty program that costs $25 to join and an application to be filled out even though he knew we were their for our anniversary. He asked us 3 times if we wanted a soufflé that took 25 minutes even though he knew restaurant offered a complimentary dessert. We complained about bright lights & he said I'll check twice. A mother & son were finally seated right next to us in this nearly empty room & they complained so much about the bright lighting it finally was dimmed. The whole bar staff wears ratty looking tshirts & jeans as their uniforms in this old fashioned clubby restaurant. Whole place seemed kind of tired. Bartender also put the sales pitch on us for that loyalty program. All the ambiance that made 5 Crowns worth the price is gone. Except fur stale bread, food is still good. Meat quality great. Sides adequate but lacking. Mine were room temperature. Not a single Pinot Grigio on the wine list & no wine by the glass under $11 but most are in the $16-25 range. We will not go back & are saddened that it has changed so much. It used to be a favorite especially for business entertaining.
Always a blessing dining here
I'm unhappy they relaxed their dress code as I made sure my date was dressed appropriately with a shirt and tie. What's next shorts and flip flops??? Also, wasn't happy they didn't serve my favourite soup which is the French Onion. This was very very disappointing as I was looking forward to it.
I love ambience and all. I like my table request by the main dining room window. But this time swayed by big round table of family of screaming little kids. In all my years coming for food quality and special occasions I have never dealt with unruly screaming kids. Really interfered with our special occasion
Awesome place! Great food, and the service was fabulous. We will be back!!!!
Very nice restaurant with good service. The experience is a notch above Lawry's because the restaurant isn't so packed with people. However, on my last few visits, I have found the portion sizes to be miserly. The prime rib slices are pretty thin, and the side portions are quite small. They definitely give you more for your money at Lawry's.
Great service. I had scallops for the first time in my long life and the blackened scallops were amazing
Five Crowns was not up to its usual quality. Server, while not rude was not gracious or cordial. She was basically gong through the motions. This is very unusual for Five Crowns or any Lawry's restaurant Bread is usaually offers by the server. On this occasion a basket of dry, not warmed rolls was place on the table. Saucer sized plates with three containers of condiments (butter?, another with containers of horseradish were placed on the table and a pitcher of au jus. Three members of our party ordered prime rib medium rare and two ordered medium. All 5 plates were cooked exactly the same, medium rare. The Yorkshire puddings ere over cooked, one was just shy of being burned. the lobster was very small and a tad dry.
On the plus side, the computer did note our seating preference and we were seated in the wonderful alcove in the main dining room, We only had a short wait before we were seated. Aside form the the aforementioned problems with the food, the rest of the meal was well prepared.
This is one of our top restaurants and we were with people who had not been there for some time, so we were sorry to see the inconsistency.
I would definitely recommend the prime rib and the au gratin potatoes. The filet lacked some flavor compared to Mastros, Fleming, ruths chris. The chocolate souffle was delicious! Would go back again and possibly try the bar menu. Our waitress wasn't the happiest of people and we waiting for a while to order our water/drinks.
Excellent service and delicious surf and turf meal
This was my wife's birthday dinner!
The experience was a such a comedy of errors with our food and service that the management ended up comping both our dinners!! NOT GOOD
Overall disappointing. This restaurant has been around a long time. I personally hadn’t been for 10 or so years. The overall ambience was more like an upmarket Denny’s than a high scale member of the Lawrey’s group. White table cloths would have helped elevate the experience. The good was served way too fast, not a complaint you hear a lot of the time, but we felt our meal was rushed. The prime rib was ok, just that. Ok. For the price point I would have expected much more. Won’t be going back and won’t be recommending. Shout out to our server, she was great.
Best prime rib we have ever had!
Their scallops were the best I've ever eaten, and our server was personable and most efficient
Outstanding from the moment we pulled into valet parking greeted as we checked in. Service was outstanding but low key. Food was outstanding. Not much more we could ask for.
The food, beverages and service are ALWAYS perfect...EVERYTIME!!!!!!
So yummy but sooo expensive. We went as couples and it was about $300 a couple
