Best Restaurants that are Worth The Drive in Sunnyside

Great salads, pizza and drinks. Kids menu was spot-on.

We have a lovely Father's Day brunch at Fire. The service was attentive and our custom omelets were perfection. Creative cocktails and plentiful coffee. A memorable meal in a beautiful, art-filled hotel.

We went here once before for restaurant week and enjoyed our meals. I’m a vegan and there’s really not much on the menu without animal products, but they accommodated me happily last time so we decided to come again. We made a reservation for a bar area high top, but got sat at a low table in the general dining area which was fine but the hostess didn’t ask us which was odd as someone who has worked in a lot of restaurants and done hosting. They were clearly short-staffed, so everything was a bit of a wait which again is fine and understandable as someone who has worked in restaurants and knows it happens. I had to modify me entree to make it vegan but the server said there would be an upcharge which is understandable, but it was $5 for a few pieces of mushrooms to be added to a penne pasta that I had to remove cheese from. I asked for mushrooms assuming it would be easier and cheaper than adding the chick’n or plant-based burger but the chickn up charge would’ve been less. For all of our waiting (to be seated, to be greeted, to get our check, to have our check paid), it would’ve been nice to have at least not been charged so much for something I know shouldn’t cost that much. It is a nice place though overall and we enjoyed our food and beers. It is dog-friendly on the patios too and a very cool space. Overall, I would still recommend this place. Just wish there were more vegan options or ways to substitute without up charges.

The soup dumplings were excellent! Our server was very knowledgeable and the food came out hot and fresh and quickly.
