Our wait person,Sergio, was delightful and helpful in making our 4th anniversary celebration with a dear friend of my hubby special ! There’s always incredible cocktails here at The East Pole but tonight was about the wine list (there’s some special wines of the night) to celebrate with. Ask for an order (it’s off the bar menu) of warm olives with herbs for the table as you enjoy your 1st cocktail or glass of wine before you decide what you’re going to eat. It was a night of “little bites” between friends, from a great array of delicious appetizers & we always have to order a side (or two!) of truffle fries … They’re so yummy w/an aioli & we can count on a dozen oysters with mignonette sauce to share, the fried squid with shishito peppers & cured lemon slices. Hopefully when you eat here the special appetizer of the day will include a yummy tempura battered dish with chunks of fresh halibut, shiso leaves, delicata squash & gulf shrimp w/an orange glaze. And seriously think about a main course of fish, as they never disappoint - especially the daily special… Enjoy your evening … As this staff - from the Maitre D’s to the incredibly knowledgeable wait staff & servers…

We really enjoyed our dinner. Only complaints would be that I reserved a table in the main dining room and we were seated in the bar area which was very busy and very loud. There were no open tables in the dining room at that time. Then why would you take a reservation for the dining room at that time. Also the chicken dish said on the menu that it came with a petite salad but it no longer does. So update the menu. But the good and service were very good. So overall a great meal!

The service is still in an early shakedown cruise, so spotty here and there, but it is the best chicken I’ve ever had in my life! When some of the things went a little sideways last night, one of the partners stepped in to make it right. Love a place where they are keeping an eye on things.

Shrimp cocktail was amazing, with some of the sweetest prawns I had this season. The fries were good, as reviewed by others and you should try the creamed kale too. We enjoyed the appetisers so much that we ended up not ordering any mains. Service was impeccable as well. I would highly recommend Monterey as a must try when in New York!
