What an experience! The restaurant serves a limited menu, changed daily of outstanding food. The dishes are presented for table sharing from the beginning to the end of the meal. Each course was creative and outstanding. We started with two dishes, one of heirloom beets and the other of white asparagus. Both were delicious. Our next course was yellow fin tuna in an Asian style sauce. This is followed by a scallops dish perfectly prepared! From there, we progressed to pasta rigatoni with snow crab, quite excellent. The next dish was cavatelli with pancetta and chestnuts. Perfect! Our last dish was delicious porchetta in a sauce of beans, chestnuts and panchetta. Again outstanding!! we finished with frozen mascarpone and citrus ice, and the meal ended with a piece of delicious chocolate. You should not forget the great bread and a bottle of wine that we enjoyed during our feast. With each course, will be given a new plate and fresh silverware. We were served by a wonderful staff, and at times the chef came to our table to explain the dishes. Chef Vincent has roots in Italy, studied at the Culinary Institute of America, and has worked in many restaurants in New York with many great and famous chefs. The restaurant is located in the old ballroom of the Taft hotel, next to the Shubert Theater in New Haven. The beautiful architecture adds to the elegance of the restaurant. Our meal was truly one of the best I’ve had in a long time. It brought back memories of outstanding food that I experienced while living in Bologna Italy. The many courses that we had were spaced and were never rushed. Congratulations to the staff and to Chef Vincent for such an outstanding culinary experience. - RRobinNew York City •13 reviews4.0Dined on Jan 31, 2025Went to Villa Lulu for the first time with friends before a show at the Shubert. The food was very good, but the service was a little questionable. I don't know if the poor service was because our server was overwhelmed with tables, or if he was having a bad night, but he neglected to put our dinner order in and informed us of that when he dropped off the dinner to our friends. He was open and said he only punched in one dinner and that they would make ours right away. After about 25 minutes, ours finally came out. He only gave us 2 pieces of bread for 4 people at the table, empty drink glasses were never retrieved, and he never came by to see if our dinners were okay. The food and atmosphere of the restaurant is what will have us return for another visit. Hopefully we get a different server. You absolutely cannot beat the location if you are attending a show at the Shubert.More infoVilla LuluPrice: Moderate• Italian• New Haven•4.3

- LLaraGreater Boston •2 reviews5.0Dined on Jan 30, 2025If you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience that goes above and beyond in every aspect, this small yet exceptional restaurant is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, where every detail—from the elegant decor to the impeccable service—has been carefully thought out. The cuisine is nothing short of phenomenal. Every dish is a testament to the chef’s mastery, showcasing fresh ingredients and precise execution. I had the pleasure of trying the scallops, salmon, and tiramisu, and each was outstanding. The scallops were perfectly seared, with a delicate sweetness that melted in my mouth. The salmon was expertly cooked, flaky and flavorful, with a richness that was beautifully balanced. And then, the tiramisu—without a doubt, one of the best I’ve ever had. The ratio of mascarpone to biscuit was absolute perfection, with a generous amount of luscious mascarpone creating an airy yet indulgent texture. It was smooth, creamy, and simply divine. This restaurant is a rare find—where passion, precision, and hospitality come together seamlessly. Whether you're a devoted foodie or simply looking for an unforgettable meal, this place will exceed your expectations. Highly recommended!More infoStrega - New HavenPrice: Expensive• Italian• New Haven•4.8
