At Babette, the husband and wife team of Joan Ellis and Patrick Hooker, are in the kitchen preparing each plate to ensure that their vision and taste profile are translated to each diner. The attention to detail are evident in not only the food they make but also the ambience they have created. The interior of the restaurant is natural brick and the couple have chosen a rich color palette of deep blues and greens for the walls. The food is very innovative and interesting. Some dishes were excellent. Others I didn’t like as much, but it’s pretty subjective. My favorites were the green pea stew(wonderful), the cornbread (fabulous) and the fried green tomatoes (delicious). The timing of delivery of dishes was a little off—our friends got their cornbread order about 15 minutes before I did. However the waiters were all nice and attentive. My only problem with the restaurant is that it’s quite pricey, but then most high-end restaurants like that are these days.
