- SSaraPortland / Oregon •4 reviews4.0Dined 7 days agoI found the food quality to be good, but the omakase assortment fell kind of flat. It was almost all nigiri style bites (I believe 13 in total with two crudo style dishes to start) overdressed and over-seasoned. I think crispy garlic was on 5 of them? There were some groovy flavor combinations for sure, a yummy basil oil for instance (but again I think it was on 3 of the nigiri) but I felt like the sauces were super strong vs the usual understated, subtle / taste the fish flavor I am accustomed to. It seemed like the menu was pre-planned and would be the same if we went tomorrow. Just not what I am used to. Generally the chef asks what you like and don’t like and we did not get that here. All cooked or heated items were heated with torch. I guess I just am used to a different experience with omakase, like a salad sunomono course, a soup or broth dish, maybe a yakitori or some clever chicken skin dish or a unique cooked fish dish? Definitely worth trying, but be prepared for a hefty bill (ours was over $500 for 3 guests). Oh one last thing, the service was great and everyone was super friendly!More infoKenji OmakasePrice: Very Expensive• Japanese• French Quarter•4.8
