Best Family Style Restaurants in Hollywood

I’ve visited République five times, and while the food and ambiance are lovely, the service experience has been deeply mixed. Gracie, our server, is exceptional — warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. She remembered me and my drink preferences from a previous visit two and a half months ago (on my birthday!) and made me feel incredibly valued. All 5 stars go to her — she’s the reason I’ll return. But unfortunately, I’m giving only 4 stars overall, because of how Sadé, the host, treated me twice — once on my birthday, and again today, June 19. Despite having a reservation, I was left standing both times while multiple groups who arrived later were immediately seated. My questions were met with eye rolls, dismissive replies, and a complete lack of warmth. I felt unwelcome, disrespected, and humiliated in front of my guests. Today, even a simple photo request was met with visible irritation. When I later asked for her name to leave a review, her tone suddenly changed — but good service shouldn’t depend on that. I can’t help but feel I was treated differently because of my accent — like I wasn’t a “regular” and didn’t matter. But every guest deserves equal respect, regardless of nationality or background. I’m writing this because I care. I love this restaurant, I live nearby, and I want to keep coming back — but only Gracie’s kindness made up for how unwelcome I felt at the door.

First time And not the last time!!! Already shared with friends!! We celebrated my wife’s birthday and daughter’s college graduation - everyone was friendly. Shadow and Otto went out of their way to make out first visit memorable. Although we are from San Diego- we will come back!! Thank you so much!!!!

Wifey and I had a wonderful experience tonight at Ile is home. We were visiting LA and wanted to find some good African food. We were familiar with the concept of Ile is home and always wanted to try it. I am so glad we did. It felt like we were at home with my cousins eating amazing food and having a great concept. It was def something new for us and but I am so glad we did it bc it was and experience we will never forget. The price is worth it bc you get even more than what you pay for. It’s like the best of Africa right in LA. Can’t wait to come back and bring more family and friends so they can experience our new favorite place in LA
