Fearrington House Restaurant
From partnerships with local farms, including Duckwood Farms and Heritage Farms, to vegetables and herbs harvested from gardens on property, to dishes that celebrate North Carolina’s four distinct seasons, The Fearrington House’s mission to provide Relais & Chateaux level cuisine and service to guests has remained constant since opening in 1980.
Our menu is complemented by a beverage program featuring an extensive wine list, a fully-equipped bar, cocktails with local ingredient and beers celebrating North Carolina breweries. The beverage program is overseen by Beverage Director Paula de Pano.
The Barn at Fearrington offers an exceptional venue for large gatherings including weddings, holiday parties, and company events such as barbeques and team building and celebrations. The climate controlled Barn's rustic appeal always greets guests as an unexpected pleasure. The cobblestone entrance way, expansive dining and dancing space, magical twig chandeliers make the Barn one of the most desirable locations in the Triangle. The Barn at Fearrington accommodates groups from 125 to 300.
The entire meal was amazing with multiple extra small courses during the 3 course meal. The chocolate soufflé was shockingly over the top and left us planning a return trip for our next anniversary!
They went above and beyond to make everyone comfortable and to make my birthday special
Beautiful house with professional staff. Started great but ended bad. We were the second party at the restaurant. As soon as the restaurant began to fill up, service stopped. Our main course took over 30 minutes from the second course and arrived cold.
Excellence is when the food, service and experience come together like a symphony. When a restaurant doesn’t deliver all three cohesively at this price point, it becomes pretension.
Special occasion event, food was fantastic and service was outstanding, enjoyed the wine pairing and explanation with each one.
Food and service was fantastic. Wine paring was on point as well, it's a very cozy date spot. My only disappointment was the sanitation score of 90 which is quite low for a restaurant of this quality.
The pace is too slow. There is no reason that one has to wait for 30-45 minutes between courses. Otherwise this restaurant is always very welcoming and warm. Food is always very intersting and creative. The service is always professional and good.
What an experience. The presentation of the meal, artistic creativity. Staff extremely informative and knowledgeable.
A gem in our neighborhood. Quiet, classic environment. Noise kept to minimum. No need to strain your voice to be understood. Tables, silverware, chine and linens elegant and inviting. Dishes worthy to skip the trip to the New York's best restaurants. Impeccable service. Wine paring for us was perfect. To top it, my wife's birthday personalized menu card added an extra touch to the entire experience.
In central NC, Fearington House offers a unique access to fine dining. Understandably expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
Took our daughter and son-in-law here to celebrate their first anniversary. The meal was wonderful. The food was interesting, innovative, and delicious. Quantity was generous and the service impeccable.
Dinner was ok, felt like the chef was stretching on the flavors, sometimes less is more. Dessert was the best part of the meal. Excellent wine selection. The dinner was not on par with the environment and the ambiance.
A wonderful experience and excellent food, but too pricey for my taste.
Our experience at Farrington this weekend was truly exceptional. We’ve been visiting this restaurant for over 15 years but last Friday was something special! Watson the bartender created some wonderful drinks for my husband and I and our servers and sommeliers were fabulous. Joris is always a delight to talk to and very welcoming at the front door. The food was, as usual, exceptional and we even noticed that some of the serving sizes were generally a little bit larger than we have seen in the past. Not that my husband and I go there to eat major volumes of food! But, I had lots of doggy bags for the next day’s enjoyment. All in all, a truly amazing, phenomenal evening! Thank you again Fearrington House staff!
Overall we had a good experience at The Fearrington House, but it is certainly a splurge. This was actually our second time going and the service was much improved over the first time around. On our prior visit, the waiter came off as stuffy and each course took FOREVER to come out, but this time our server, Derick, was very personable and responsive and the sommelier was excellent; I originally ordered a 1/2 bottle of wine and she suggested a comparable full bottle within the same price range which was much appreciated. I was not overly excited with my first course of watermelon and crab and my fiancé ordered a chicken dish and it wasn't terribly exciting either, but my second course of black cod was very good and my third course of scallops in a curry sauce was amazing. This is definitely a restaurant that you come to for the experience and if you have an opportunity to stay at the Fearrington House Inn I encourage you to do that as well.
One of the best dining experiences anywhere. Highly recommended.
Exceptional wine list and service! Truely extraordinary!
Simply the best in the area for high end dining. Menu changes seasonally and is always creative and delicious. We go a couple times a year for special occasions and are never disappointed. Great wine list and pairings available. The chocolate souffle is not to be missed. Pricey, but worth it for a special evening of dining.
It was our 32nd anniversary! The menu was wonderful! They even personalized our menu with a happy anniversary note written on front. They put our menu in a bag to take home and then also brought a box of truffles for us to take home. They made our night so special
We had a wonderful time, and everything was outstanding! Thank you!
Service was great but very slow. Food was amazing g
For us this was a mixed experience and if you read through the negative reviews you will find a pattern - it was good but at the price point, it was a disappointment. I second that. We live in NYC so we get to eat a lot of very good food. And we travel. Our expectations are high. The restaurant itself is lovely and the staff is very professional and welcoming. The food is uneven and again, for what you are paying, it should not be. We were a party of four and opted for the three course dinner. The restaurant brings amuse bouche during the meal. They were all unexceptional. For a comparison, if you've ever been to Bouley in NYC, each amuse bouche is worth a moment when everyone looks at each other and says WOW. None of these were worth a wow let a lone a second comment. Textures were all similar. Bread was ordinary and in an era when great bread is everywhere that is just lazy. Two first courses hit the mark and two were misses. Same with the mains....Two were completely ordinary. You cannot charge these prices and serve ordinary! It is not a "bad" meal. It is just ordinary. Ordinary at NYC prices is not worthy of four or five stars. I would encourage the chef and owners of the restaurant to travel to NYC and dine at Via Carota, i Sodi, Daniel, Blue Hill to understand what standard they should be striving for. Bas Rouge in Easton MD is another one. There is great food out in the country now (just spent a week eating amazing food in Pittsburgh). FH should be held to a higher standard than the one it skating by on and diners should be a little less willing to give it a free pass.
Still the best gourmet restaurant in NC! Exquisite service, cuisine and ambiance.
Amazing food, wonderful place for a special occasion. A must visit for true foodies!
Everything was wonderful! We ordered the wine pairing menu. Don't come here if you are on a budget, but for a special occasion, it was fantastic!
Great experience, excellent food! Loved everything about this restaurant. The wine pairings were spot on and the food taste and presentation was to die for!
Outstanding! The chef created a vegetarian tasting menu just for us, and we enjoyed every bite. The service was wonderful, and the atmosphere relaxing.
Food was solid. Wine pairings were a joke. My wife and I each got the 3 course wine pairings. Each pour was about 2-ounces (I literally had 3-4 sips of wine with my main course before it was empty). Cost was $75 each ($150 total). Wines were very average; they tasted it and I checked by looking up after the fact on my wine app. We could’ve bought entire bottles of all three wines we had at retail for less than $75 total. Instead we got 6-7 ounces total (each) out of our pairings. Would’ve been much better ordering full pours of wine by the glass of our choosing or ordering one really nice bottle of wine for the two of us rather than paying $150 for skimpy pours of disappointing wine. In any other field, them marketing these wine pairings at this price would be considered a fraud. I guess it is OK if you’ve convinced people it is fine dining and send out a sommelier to make it look fancy. It is a ripoff. Don’t do it. Enjoy the great food, but don’t fall for their wine trap.
Just fantastic. From the outstanding
Been to the house on several occasions. Still outstanding.
Perfectly, quiet, quaint, beautifully romantic environment!
The food was also outstanding!
A semiformal dinning experience with excellent service. Unfortunately the food was not as spectacular as I would expect for the prices.
It was a fabulous experience and the service and food amazing. Loved it !
Came there 24 years ago and it was outstanding. 24 years alter, the food is amazing, the wine was simply excellent and the atmosphere was really welcoming and friendly. When you resist time, this is really when you make a real difference and distinguish yourself from others. The Fearrington House deserves the amazing reputation it has build over the years. I have always recommended this place to friends visiting the area and will continue. Thanks a lot for this wonderful experience.
One of the best meals I have had in the US in YEARS
First class food, service and venue; perfect for a special occasion. We greatly appreciated the chef offering a vegetarian tasting menu. Highly recommended.
This was my third visit to the Fearrington House over the past 15 years and this time was good, but not quite like the prior two times. The service was excellent, but the food was not at the same level.
Absolutely the best restaurant in the state. Elegant, unique, stellar service, it can’t be beat. We had a Derrick as our server and he did a splendid job.
We went for my fiancées birthday and stayed at the inn. Top notch. Our server, John, was phenomenal. He made 5-Star recommendations from the beginning but wasn’t pushy; not even a little. The food was great, especially the soufflé and the lamb. Wine recommendations were spot on although we did not do the sommelier recommendations, just our own paired with John’s. John was so nice to chat with us a while about chapel hill nostalgia and send us home with the AMAZING coffee beans (buy them, seriously). All in all a great experience!
Beautiful place to visit. Walk the gardens before or after dinner. They make you feel important as soon as you arrive. Staff was kind helpful. Waiter took great care of us without hovering. Food was delicious, and also beaitiful. Great date night. Will return.
Not inexpensive but worth the cost! Lovely location.
