About Etoile Cuisine Et Bar
The owners of Étoile Cuisine et Bar, Chef Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui, have created an inviting, warm European environment where both traditional and seasonal French food are front and center. "We want to dispel the notion that French food is heavy and pretentious," says the team, recently transplanted to Houston from San Diego, where they owned the famed Cavaillon Restaurant. Everything about Étoile Cuisine et Bar, from the inviting outside facade to the intriguing interior design to the high quality service, is meant to convey a feeling of truly being in France. With Chef Philippe's take on a seasonal menu using a French technique, it's a place where fine food lovers come together, not on a special occasion, but to enjoy every day.

Etoile Cuisine Et Bar Ratings and Reviews
Nice dining room. Not overly large or loud. We we welcomed in then quickly seated. Waiter was great and helped us with our French.
Very nice dinner. The wine prices are a bit high.
Loved the meal and desert. Sounds odd but my favorite was the bread. I love bread! The waiter even packed four to take away.
Would love to return.
Wish they were right here in Austin!
Etoile never disappoints! Quality food with quality ingredients! Authentic yet creative! Every time we need to drive to Houston from Austin, we plan our arrival just in time to be at Etoile for lunch. We only encountered Etoile less than 2 years ago, but it has been our favorite place to eat whenever we are in Houston. We are afraid to try other French restaurant when we found Etoile to be excellent every time we dined there. We feel we don't need to do any more search for fine, authentic and creative French food!
Everything we tried were excellent! Escargot, mushroom ravioli, beef tartare, duck confit, apple tart and creme brulee were all all feast of the senses! We tend to keep ordering the same things, as we were craving for those everytime, but we certainly will try other dishes on our next visit!
I received a phone call from a woman that morning to confirm that I was coming at 12:30. Then I retrieved a voicemail from a man stating that they were not serving lunch (about an hour before I was supposed to dine there with no explanation). I had to hurriedly find another place for lunch and contact my friend. I would have rated all of the above as Not Applicable, but this was not an option offered to me.
I have had dinner at Etoile 5-6 times. The menu is always good whether you prefer classic french or french with a twist. The presentation is beautiful, the ingredients are very fresh and perfectly cooked. The service is impeccable and waiters are very knowledge about the ingredients and preparation.
Do yourself a big favor and go to Etoile.
We came for the second time and it was so great. We love the atmosphere and it remind me so much of my country. The Carte is really all the good food you may miss from France. All the food was great quality as well as the service. Only the bread didnt tast like home but that's fine for me.
We used to love this place, but it’s been going downhill for a while, and after last night we will not be returning. I usually don’t complain about service, I don’t really care if waiters are knowledgeable, “snooty “, friendly, or whatever. As long as they bring me my food, I’m good. Well... Last night was an exception even by my easy standard. The waiter took our wine order, then disappeared for 30 minutes while we sat there waiting, and waiting, and... By the time the wine came, we were afraid to let him leave again without taking our dinner order. When we wanted more wine, we couldn’t find him again, so that instead of the four of us ordering our usual 3 bottles of wine, we only got to order one. I guess he saved us money... ugh. Combine that with my very mediocre risotto, and you get customers who will not be coming back. Goodbye, Etoile.
My favorite French restaurant in Houston. My husband and I are both French and we tried all the French restaurants in the city (when we are home sick!) and this is by far the best one! The food is always delicious and the service excellent! Would eat there everyday if I could!
My boyfriend and I went here last Saturday for his 30th birthday and our anniversary. The service here is incredible. Everyone works together very efficiently. No one was loud or under attentive. We were too full for dessert, but since I had let them know it was a special occasion, the chef and owner brought out a sweet treat for us himself. The food here is fantastic, very flavorful. I definitely recommend this place.
Food was good, not the best for it's price though. Menu is a little bit overwhelming and would like to see better descriptions on ALL their items. There was a section of their menu where they didn't have descriptions. The names of these dishes were of nothing I have heard. Otherwise, everyone was friendly and the environment was nice.
Food is fantastic and had special charity menu , great value.
The young hostess’s were more interested in chatting together than greeting customers.
Felt rushed, with food coming like a conveyor belt!
Tables in the front section too close together. Chose back room for more room!
From start to finish our experience was outstanding. The food was great! Our party had the Salade de Chèvre Chaud, Raviolis aux Champignons, the Sea Bass Special and the Magee de Canard a l'Orange. Our waiter split these dishes equally so all of us could get a taste of everything. I can't wait to return!
Fantastic food and experience. Our first time there, and we'll be back. Had the filet de sole meunière and spouse had the filer de boeuf au poivre. Fish was really special. Dessert was ile flottante a la pistache, and pot de chocolat. Beautifully presented also. We were in the back room, the quietest place there, which highly recommend.
My daughter and I went for Houston Restaurant Weeks and had a wonderful experience. The goat cheese salad was delicious, as was my daughter's escargot appetizer. Entrees were excellent and the desserts perfect. I was particularly impressed by the service. The waiter's timing and attentiveness level were spot on - we weren't rushed but didn't wait too long. Will definitely be back!
