A little to noisy. Hard to carry on a conversation! Excellent crab louie and halibut. Poor selection of beers on tap.
Our soup was lukewarm. The bowl held one cup or less soup. The soup was good. The waitress was very nice. Our opinion was poor of the food presentation.
We have been here several times and have always had a great meal. We love the noise level is low so its easy to talk to our dinner companions.
The Esquire Grill is a true gem of a dining experience in an otherwise woefully wanting landscape of overpriced semiprecious stones. The menu offerings contain unique and unpretentious surprises such as Bucatini with Pancetta, English peas, farm egg, black pepper, and Parmesan or a side of sauteed spinach with caraway and shallots. Other offerings include Wagyu Beef Bavette Steak wrapped in a peppercorn crust, with au poivre sauce, grilled asparagus, and smashed Fingerling potatoes. Best of all there is an ample wine list with many fine offerings by the glass. Alas, the selections of single malt Scotch and Irish whiskeys is wanting but, alas, a perfect heaven of epicurean treasures is not possible. However, Esquire Grill gives an extraordinary effort at accomplishing such.
The decor, the attention to detail and the near impeccable and knowledgeable service contribute greatly to Chef Kurt Spitaro's spectacular creations.
This establishment is part of the Paragary Restaurant Group although it shares the same name as a dining surprise at Sacramento International Airport (SMF). More about that can be found elsewhere.
Prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the experience. They are at he upper edge of mid-range dining but still below "fine dining" extortion.
Perfect stop before attending an event at The Crest!
My only issue was that even after telling our waitress we had a time constraint we were served with 10 minutes to eat.
the steak was raw not rare and the potatoes were runny. Spinach over cooked. Mushrooms like rubber.
Had a great evening and Keith our waiter was excellent!
We had a great dining experience at Esquire grill. The whipped burrata and asparagus was so delicious. We had the steak which was excellent. The server, Amanda, was very knowledgeable and helpful when ordering. The banana cream pie was a banana cream pie lovers heaven. Too bad I was only one night in Sacramento. It would be a favorite to visit on a regular basis.
Food was good and our waiter was very friendly , helpful and efficient! Great time!!!
Another before the musical dinner at the Esquire. Attentive service, good food with a delicious appetizer of fried squid, asparagus and pea pods with a remoulade sauce. Luscious wagyu steak cooked to perfection. Deserts were standard but satisfying. Our to go place before the theater.
Went to dinner with a friend just before the show across the street. The food was outstanding the service above and beyond and the ambience was great. The Esquire grill is a wonderful restaurant and a great choice for your evening out.
We split the poke appetizer, the pork chop and the dessert. More than enough for the 2 of us with food left over to bring home. The pork chop was tender and moist. The romesco sauce that came with the pork dish was very tasty.
Citrus salad a stunner. Petrale sole never fails to amaze. Great service, nice atmosphere!
Four of us had dinner at Esquire Grill. We were here in Sacramento for a conference. We were greated and welcomed when we walked in. Service was very attentive and worked with our dietary restrictions! Plenty of options and recommendations. Food was very tasty. The evening was very relaxing and we would definitely return.
First the good news: My dining companion and I both ordered the Wagyu Bavette steaks. They were perfectly cooked and my change in side orders was handled well.
The OK news: the burrata and asparagus appetizer was short on burrata, although the asparagus was very good. The banana cream was tart was fine.
Now the bad news: our waiter was inattentive and there were long waits between courses. Since the restaurant was not too busy at the time, he had no excuse.
The valet parking was a nightmare: the text message system wasn't working and there was only one attendant.
Great service and delicious food. It was a bit noisy though.
We have been coming here for years especially during the Broadway season. Love that you have valet service and although this time it was better than our last visit it seems to have gotten slower and longer wait time on arrival than what we were accustomed to in past years.
Great service. Very timely as we were going to the theater. Very fresh salads. We go there every time we go to the theater.
Always enjoy going to this restaurant. Love Tom serving us too.
Great place to enjoy a conversation with friends and a delicious meal.
Everything was excellent. The Petrale was cooked to perfection, flakey and moist plus a good portion. My guest had the chicken salad and it was similar in rating. The service was excellent. Very attentive and refilled our beverages at the appropriate time.
Service was wonderful and so was the food. The only negative is the amount of noise as the ceiling is high; but, not too bad.
Every time I have eaten there the waiters are wonderful and fast.
Service was excellent! Food was good, but servings could be smaller.
Really outstanding service. Most of the restaurant cleared out for a Community Center event at the same time, and wait staff and kitchen accommodated everyone beautifully.
Very limited menu. I give it a chance each year but nothing has changed
Jackson our waiter was Johnnie on the spot, taking care of our needs, keeping our water and wine glasses charged. Although they were out of the one special menu item I wanted, the Sole was excellent. The only negative thing about was the valet parking outside, unlike previous visits parking was not validated and there was quite a wait both dropping off and picking up.
Sat outside. Food was good and service was great!
Great location close to the Community Theatre. Service very atuned to the theatre attendees. The Korean BBQ wings were tasty. The grilled half chicken was well prepared as well. Solid choice.
Perfect evening. Wonderful food. Unobtrusive, but great service. No rush. Great evening.
We were seated at a booth which was covered with a plastic woven mat material. It was filthy. Sticky stuff , greasy stuff, crumbs. You don't even want to know what was underneath the mat....it looked like they never lift them to wash the tables. The server sent the busser to clean the table mat but at that point I was put off on the whole experience. We found the food to be ok, nothing special. I ordered a shrimp louie which turned out to be an iceberg wedge with some jumbo shrimp an egg and avocado. There are a lot of great places to dine in Sacramento now and we won't be going back to this one. Hopefully others have a better experience.
Absolutely love the place! It was our 2nd time there and want to just stay. Top line!
Jackson, our server, was 5 stars. Food excellent and great ambiance.
Esquire Grill is always reliable and consistent with high quality of food and service.
The four of us enjoyed a great meal. The service and food was excellent! Loved the apple crisp and gelato desserts.
Love, love, love this place! Great lunch spot before the theater. Very accommodating to our timeframe and always have great specials to enjoy. Staff are exceptional. THANK YOU!
Two in our party ordered the New Zealand salmon and while they said it was tasty it (and the mashed potato side) arrived barely warm at best. The head waiter made it right later with free dessert but given the higher than average prices and Esquire Grill reputation it was disappointing.
The food was wonderful, the service was perfect, they even brought out a birthday dessert and took our bday pic.
We last had a meal at Esquire Grill in August of 2007 at which time it was easily the best restaurant meal I had ever been served. This past Friday night, nearly 12 years later, they did it again. Now, Esquire Grill is responsible for the two best restaurant meals I have ever had! The obvious question is 'Why not go more often if it's that good?'...That's how much I detest downtown Sacramento and the predictable, obvious results of the city's political decisions.
Had a very nice meal with my daughter before the Symphony. The restaurant was not very busy as we were there early but we were able to carry on a great conversation without yelling, a very welcome situation. The food and service were top notch as well. A great evening.
