Embarcadero Wine and Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
My first visit to Embarcadero but it won’t be my last. Had dinner before concert at Saddledome. Server asked why we were having dinner and made sure we left in time for the show. Appetizer was bacon wrapped scallops, tasty but cool/warm and not hot off the grill. Mains were both hot and very tasty, stuffed chicken and jambalaya. Specials sounded great and there lots of good choices on menu. Prices were great, dinner and a bottle of wine for $100.
On a visit from out of town, very pleased to have found this one-of-a-kind privately owned business in a vintage building downtown. We had the Thanksgiving special, which was an excellent deal, generous portions, colourful composition and very tasty. One of our party also had the seafood chowder, which looked and smelled heavenly. We'll be back to try the wine and the oysters too!
Wasn't a typical night - as it was before Garth Brooks concert but they should have been prepared. It was a special date night and we went all out, bottle of prosecco, oysters, surf & turf, $200+ bill but wasn't worth that. Sent back dirty vodka martini that was watery (that should NEVER happen to a martini!!) My husband's steak was chewy, shouldn't be for that price.. Waitress was good, but overwhelmed... Oysters were good.
Sadly our first and last time there.
Before concert. Food was good. Our drinks sat empty, our food took a long time. We asked for a desert menu and never got one. Waitress was nice but other tables didn't appear to get this level of service. A few tables who sat later, got their food before us, etc...I'm not sure why we got so "lucky"
Great food and service. Pretty tight single table for my hubby who is 6'2", but to be fair, we were given a choice between this and a high top table. Not a lot of privacy for an intimate evening. Great food and friendly atmosphere. Close to Saddledome for a pre- event meal.
We went here based on reviews from Open Table, we were attending a concert at the BMO center and wanted to dine close to the venue. Food was very good, the oysters were delicious and the waiter knew what he was talking about when we asked questions. The steak was done just as we ordered and the carpaccio was delicious. The atmosphere is not a good as the food, TV's behind the bar and very dated seating. But if you are there for the food I don't think you will be disappointed.
I was very impressed to receive a phone call to let us know about construction on 17 Ave. and where we could park. We were coming into the city for a concert so had no idea
Really enjoyed our meal and the service was good. Unfortunately the noise level was beyond loud and took away from the ambiance
If this had been my first time to this restaurant, I simply could not recommend it to anyone. I have, however, gone to this restaurant for the last seven years and in general everything from the service, to the food, has been exceptional.
Unfortunately, on this long weekend the restaurant was short-staffed (two persons - one cook and one server), and they had to turn away patrons as it simply was impossible for the staff to take care of everyone, even though there were available tables. Also food items were missing (their stellar relish for the oysters), which was most unfortunate.
I do believe it was a glitch, and perhaps due to the construction in the area, the expectation was that less people would come to this wonderful restaurant.
I do believe it isn't safe to leave one server alone. There should have least been a bus boy/girl/person to assist with the tables and basic service as well as safety of the worker.
I give this establishment a strong 4.5- 5 out of 5. Every other time. I hope people will not be discouraged by this review. And, if it happens again, I may not be so kind in giving this establishment another chance.
Food was fantastic! Service was great. They asked if we were going to the concert at the saddledome at 8:00 which we were. Advised we should order quickly to make it in time which we did. Little cozy where we were sitting. I could have reached out and touched the people sitting around us they we so close. Hope we can go back another time without the time constraints!
We went for the Big Taste - and were blown away by both the quality of the food and the great service! We sampled one option from each course. The salmon with lobster cream was fantastic, and my husband said it was the best tenderloin (sigh, blue cheese encrusted) he's had in years.
(PS we came here on one of our first dates 18 years ago - there's a reason the Embarcadero has remained a Calgary staple)
A very disappointing meal. The food was terrible - almost tasted like a microwave meal and lacked any real flavour. I imagine this is the quality of food that was considered fine dining 20 years ago. And you get the feeling it was acceptable back then. But culinary tastes have changed since then and this place has failed to evolve. I'm shocked at the amount of positive reviews and even more shocked this place has managed to stay in business.
Sorry to say that I would not return or recommend it.
Went in for valentine's, hoping for a nice romantic evening with my wife. Took 30 minutes past our reservation time to get a table, with no acknowledgements from staff.
Appies took forever and we weren't served dinner for another 2 hours.
Our waitress was completely frazzled distracted.
Food was good but not worth the time and cost.
I have been to Embarcaderos several times before, and other times I was satisfied. Today was Valentines. This is not their first Valentines -- I was there a year ago for example, and they have been around for years. The place was busy. Our waitress was so stressed that her frantic style was anything but relaxing or romantic. The Seafood cocktail appetizer was good, although the mussels would have been better served warm like the scallop on top. The mixed grill -- the main course -- was a disaster. Have you ever had boneless skinless chicken breast that was cooked so much that the dryness of it reminded you of eating a hockey puck? This was it. Better to use frozen chicken breast, quick defrost in a microwave, and then the meat will retain much of its moisture when you cook the living hell out of it. The fillet mignon was rare, and the waitress was too busy to pester to ask her to take it back to bring it to my liking. It was also likely 3 ounces -- it would have stuck to the wall if I had thrown it. The lamb portion was fine. Dessert was a nice treat (mousse with jam and whipped cream).
Yum, yum oysters! Always leery of seafood in Alberta but the oyster platter was awesome and the price was very fair. $23 for 10 oysters, can't go wrong with that. They also had a special on a particular oyster for $1.25 each. Oyster lovers, go get some! Staff was very friendly and accommodating, great place for a romantic dinner, business meal or any occasion where you want to impress.
