East by Southwest
Bring back the cotton candy!
The food was amazing as always but the drinks from the bar are severely lacking. I order 2 drinks, 1 double tall Jack and Coke $17 and a Manhattan $15. The first drink tasted like all Coke, the second one was in a tiny glass full of ice, I watched the bartender make it, she had no idea how to make a Manhattan. She poured a shot of Bourbon followed by a shot of water or club soda and then way to much bitters. It was undrinkable. I took one sip and left the rest. If they are going to be an upscale restaurant then they need some serious training for their bartenders. For the prices they charge for drinks they should be amazing.
Food was excellent, however as soon as we sat down the waitress proceeded to tell us that we needed to keep our dining experience to 1 hour. We felt extremely rushed which kind of ruined the experience for us. This was supposed to be a special date and having the staff do this to us was frankly rude and uncalled for, especially considering the cost of the dining experience. The waitstaff didn’t even offer us a dessert menu after dinner but tried to immediately bring us our check. Very distasteful for such a nice restaurant. I’m not sure if we’ll want to go back.
Don't get sashimi! fish tasted bland and gave me a stomach ache :/
East by southwest is a great date night or night out with friends. There was a louder table near us when we first arrived. But it was a birthday and they were obviously having a good time. Great service and great atmosphere!
This establishment is soooo Flippin Yummy, I was utterly gagged! My two friends n I enjoyed spilling Tea and the latest drama from work while stuffing our mouths with delisous cuisine. If there was a discriminatory vibe, we certainly didn't feel it, although there was a lack of diversity if you catch my drift, but it was just my observation during this visit. I recommend looking at the menu before coming because the options are endless, but be open to new things n just try, you'd be surprised. I spent 60$ during this visit, my bill was 42$ but our waitress was polite, attentive, and kept our drinks flowing that I request she keep the change. Unfortunately idk if they still give complementary cotton candy at the end of the meal anymore. I was looking forward to it but it somehow slipped my mind once the bill was paid for and already out the door. I plan to continue supporting this fine establishment for the most part of my trips to Durango. Oh and when we went, it was colder than sh*t outside, they offer a quaint variety of herbal Tea options that'll warm you up instantly and tastes sublime, plus you'll have a cute Tea Pot that'll warm your hands right up over the course of the meal, like your own personal stove. Have fun ^-^
Best sushi in Durango. Fresh. .............and the desserts are to die for.
Best place for Sushi and Fusion in Durango! Never a less-than-perfect experience.
It was our special date night. The food was amazing! Wish the server was a little more attentive.
Fresh sushi and more - nice design and ambiance. We love this place.
Great martinis and rolls. Always a favorite!
We had the best dinner on NYE. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The server was great, and food came out of a very busy kitchen at a perfect pace. All the apps and sushi were delicious.
Our overall experience was excellent. The food and drinks were delicious. The atmosphere was great. I highly recommend it.
Very good food, we had a great time. Food is on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Enjoyed our evening.
The food the very good but the service was terrible. We were in town for the Polar Express and made dinner reservations at 5:00 thinking we had plenty of time to eat before the train ride at 6:50 unfortunately we had to inhale are food and a few people in our party did not get to eat because our food didn’t come out until 6:15.
Wonderful way to celebrate our daughter's 18th bday!
We've been to East by Southwest many times and the food is always great. Service can be a little slow sometimes because they're always so busy.
Went for a birthday. They were friendly and prudent. Love this place.
Excellent food and prompt service. One of our favorite places in Durango.
It’s always one of the high points of our visits to Durango! We order different things every time because everything we have tried has been a delight. But we always end with Banana Fritters! Thank you for another memorable meal.
Food incredible and beautiful as always. Still better than any sushi place we ate at in New Orleans or Hawaii. It was a bit loud this time, but it was also homecoming night and teenagers were crowding in without reservations and wanting a million separate tickets. Our poor waiter was gracious and humorous regardless. The food is VERY expensive relative to other places in town but also worth it. I only come once a year, if it was more affordable I would come here at least 2 times a month.
If you are contemplating a second amazing mojito the answer is no. Unless you want to lose your expensive sushi in about 30 minutes. Just sayin.
YUM! Excellent service with very friendly wait staff. Very easy to drop $65 per person, so we can't go very often, but East by Southwest leaves you with a memorable and positive experience.
Made a reservation for special occasion date for my son and his GF. Arrived early for reservation. Hostess was frantic. Had to speak with the manager to get the kids seated after a 20 or so minute wait. Food is always on point. Only a handful of restaurants we choose to spend our money at and ExSW is one.
The sushi was amazing. We had a great time sharing 6 different rolls and we truly loved them all.
This was probably my worst ding experience in the last 20 years. We ordered 2 mains and 2 starters as well as a bottle of wine. My “top quality “ sashimi set arrived first. The server said it was probably because the kitchen wanted to get it out of the way. The rest of our order showed up a few minutes later. The dumplings and the squid were tepid at best. My wife’s chicken pad thai had tofu instead of chicken. The replacement was marginal. My premium sashimi set had salmon that was off color and mushy in texture. When I complained the server brought out a proper serving of salmon.
This meal with a bottle of wine cost me over $200. I will never consider returning to this restaurant.
No complaints. Will go again.
Always the best service and sushi in town!!!
My favorite restaurant in Durango!!
Our waiter, Gustavo was awesome!! Service was fast and delicious!
East by Southwest Sushi has long been a favorite of ours. We hadn't been there in a few years since we moved out of the area, but it was as good as we remembered. Maybe even better. The double Hamachi roll was amazing, and our favorite of the night. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented. Our waiter was attentive but never pushy or rushy. The restaurant is lively and fun. We sat at the sushi bar and had a great time!
The food is great, but, unfortunately the service and atmosphere have changed. I hope they get their staff more concerned with excellent service again, and less concerned with socializing with one another.
The brussel sprouts were amazing! Sushi was also good.
I have dined at many sushi restaurants in one of the largest Gulf Coast cities in America and none of them compare to East by Southwest. The seafood items are always very fresh and the preparation second to none. If you are a sushi lover as I am and you haven't given this restaurant a try, YOU are missing an incredible treat!
Visiting my son and he loves this restaurant. Food was very good and service was great.
Always a pleasure to dine here!
It was a birthday, but that information didn’t make it to the waitress from our reservation.
Waitress was late getting to our table (they seemed short handed). Another waiter came by and told us she had a large sushi order and would be there soon. When she showed up she said she didn’t know we were there. He could have offered to get us drinks if she was busy.
Can’t win them all. Still an awesome place to eat!
Seated was soon as we arrived, waiter was prompt took our drink orders and brought water. Pot stickers were good as a starter. Order some sushi and shared Pad Thai. Both we good and more than enough to share. Will return when we are back in Durango
Living on the Gulf Coast, we are used to fresh fish but I have to admit, East by Southwest has the best sushi/sashimi I have ever had. The fish is always fresh and the preparation creative. I tend to enjoy sashimi more than sushi and their variety of fish is better than any place I frequent on the gulf coast. This is one of my Durango go-to spots on a regular basis.
We had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. They missed an entree and we had to keep asking about it. It finally came after everyone else was finished. The bill was pricey.
Loved the whole experience! Great service, food and atmosphere. Looking forward to returning.
