Duke's La Jolla
I have been with Open Table for 3 plus years and this is my first negative review. We had dined at Duke's in the past and had a positive experience, however this time everything was sub-par. We had a reservation at 7:15, had to wait 20 minutes for table. Waited 20 minutes for waiter to show up and take our drink orders. Requested water 2x's finally the host showed up with water. During our long wait for our meal, requested bread which took 2 requests and 20 minutes. We waited 20 minutes for our appetizer which was ceviche and sashimi, no cook required. Waited 30 minutes for our meals. No apology for the long wait not did the waiter check in with us. It took another 20 minutes to get our Hula Pie, all you need to do is cut the pie? Staff seem overwhelmed and inexperienced. Unfortunately we are locals and will not return to Duke's, sadly this was a disappointing dining experience. Too many places in La Jolla competing for business, so I hope Duke's will improve their service.
The food was delicious. I got swordfish and we also had calamari.
Great views! Good for brunch!
This is an excellent restaurant for breakfast in La Jolla. Good food and wonderful view of La Jolla Cove. Have been here many times for lunch, dinner, and happy hour, and have always had a great experience.
Overall , it was average. I wouldn’t come back here unless it’s for happy hour. Parking was also a tad difficult.
We made reservations and still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Waiter was attentive. The food was not hot when it arrived. Nice location but I'm not sure I would eat dinner there again.
It was terrific - food and ambience and service.
And the hula pie was great to end what was a great meal.
I was there for my 62nd BD and had requested a table on the deck outside stating it was my bd. Not only did I get a table outdoors but the best table outdoors and it was magnificent!!!! The Mai Tai was good, the lunch was superb and the service outstanding. Thank you Duke's for making my bd the best ever!!!! I will return again and again. This was not my first time at Duke's nor the last....
The setting was great as was the service but unfortunately the food did not measure up and was overpriced.
We were celebrating a birthday so even though we had a reservation we had to wait for a table with a view but it was worth the wait. We had the Sea bass and Sirloin steak cooked perfectly. The service was excellent. We were also treated to a slice of Hula pie for the Birthday girl. The Hula pie was large enough to share. It was the perfect place for our celebration! I would highly recommend Dukes! We have been to the Dukes in Hawaii and dining at this Duke’s brought back found memories.
Generally have good meals here but last one was mediocre at best. Don’t think we will go back for a while
Dukes view is truly beautiful and I was truly impressed with the food. Many times places that seem to be like a “tourist trap” because of the beautiful view in La Jolla rip you off... not Dukes. Dukes calamari was REALLY good && the fish tacos were also amazing! HIGHLY recommend.
Food and service was outstanding. Bloody Mary's....Awesome!!!
Loved the ambiance and loved the service. When you walk through the front door you instantly feel like you’re back in Hawaii!
Great view of the water and lots of great food options. A few veggie options for me. Ordered the Hula Pie and was amazed by the sized and delighted by the custom plate and spork. Definitely a great place!
Great view and service, but the food could be better. Skimped us on side items and potatoes. Could be much better for the price.
Beautiful as always for a sunset dinner in La Jolla
Great food, drinks, view and service! And the prices are good, too. Dreaming of the mai tais and Duke’s fish!
The food was blah, I was hoping it would be tastier. The place is a challenge since they don’t have parking to begin with so you have to park on the street.
Duke's is great. Right in the downtown area. Excellent service from host to waiter to bus people. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I had a seat right by the water watching the shadows form on the rocks. Amazing!
There are many choices on the menu and surprisingly moderate prices considering the location. I had a fish dish that was that night made with seabass. It was a bit overcooked for my taste. Don't let that one experience stop you, as the place is a treasure.
Duke's is family friendly casual and has a great location. The food is simple but really good. Our server was great and we had a group of 10.
Every dish I've tried here is delicious (Fire Grilled Fish is tasty). The daily specials are usually a very safe bet as well (typically, a fish dish). For appetizers, the coconut shrimp and calamari are really good. Lastly, this is not a steak place but they do serve some really good NY steak.
Outstanding view, service and food. Swordfish and Sea Bass excellent.
Dukes is a very easy to go to restaurant. There’s something on the menu for everyone and the service was really good, friendly and attentive.
The locations is great, view is breath-taking! I love the food, it's superb! Service was outstanding, fast and crew are very friendly.
Fantastic restaurant and fabulous views. Been there twice so far and each time was great. Highly recommend the calamari- fabulous - and the Moscow mule was also very tasty.
Excellent food. Beautiful views. Highly recommend. Dukes fish and hula pie are amazing.
Superb service. Exceptional food. FIVE star. Will be back. Quality of service is exceptional. Impeccable service. Top notch!!
We always have a great time at Duke's! Service was excellent and the fish was superb!
A colleague and I met for dinner at Duke's on a cloudy evening before sunset. The view is spectacular, of course, but the food was also lovely...creative without being ridiculous. I had the roast fish which was perfect. Wait staff was attentive, but not intrusive and they clearly are accustomed to working as a team. I also love the Duke-era wooden boards hanging in the lobby as well as the little history lesson on Duke Kahanamoku. If you're deciding between the upper deck at George's and Dukes, on a windy afternoon I would choose Duke's. the dining area, while clearly outside is sheltered from the onshore breeze.
Duke's atmosphere is great. Nice ocean vibe....but need to get there early if you want any sort of ocean view. Good food, and service. Not a mai tai drinker, but fun in the special glass! Loved the unusual pina colada. A bit disappointed we told them it was a birthday and the did nada.
Always great food and a wonderful view up the coastline.
The food was excellent along with our waiter Jason.
Everyone from the hostess to our waiter was awesome! We were celebrating our anniversary and they gave use the best table in the house and a complimentary dessert.
We had the best time!
Just about the same recipe from Dukes Maui.
Same quality food and service
Food and ambience was very good. The service was good but waiter seemed rushed. Great view of the ocean!!
Francis was our host and was a very amazing one at that! Will be making more reservations in the future and hope to get him as our host. Food is good and the view of the sunset really sets an outstanding atmosphere.
Dukes was a very special experience. The weather and sunset was amazing.
The view is great if you get to sit outside on the deck. The calamari lacked flavor as well as the shrimp and crab salad. The seafood seemed like it was frozen and for the price I would expect it to be fresh and more vibrant. The fish and chips were pretty good. Our server was very nice and attentive. Maybe, it was just what I ordered because the macadamia nut halibut looked good at other tables.
A beautiful spot with an ocean view. Great creative cocktails, friendly staff, and great food.
