Duke's La Jolla
Lunch 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Happy Hour 3:00 pm-6:00 pm
Dinner 5:00 pm - 9:30 pm
I highly recommend taking advantage of restaurant week at Duke's and ask for a table with a view!
Staff were friendly and welcoming. Portions are on the smaller side. They were out of quite a few essentials for a Sunday brunch. Like the breakfast potatoes.
The food is expensive and not that good. The view is awesome so worth the experience
Great food and ambience! Would recommend to anyone
Great food, music (happy hour), and service! View is amazing as well!
We went for breakfast & had a 10am reservation, we got the last table next to the balcony. Which was perfect for our friends bday celebration. Our server Daisy was amazing!! The French toast was mouth watering!! They served fried rice or potatoes with their entrees in little portions and was really dry. Not sure if the food was sitting for awhile. Otherwise the view and service was great.
Incredible view and great food at very reasonable prices
Enjoyed the view, food, and service. Went with a group for a Bon Voyage Party. They selected this restaurant and now I know why. It was wonderful. I didn’t realize who Duke was or that he had so many restaurants in Ca. Very good experience and hope to return again!
Hugely disappointed by the food. it was a disaster :(
nothing good about the place except for the ambience
Duke's is a wonderful, reliable fun restaurant located in the heart of La Jolla. Always fun, always energetic and yummy food to boot!
My impression of the restaurant is that it is spacious and decorated with a modern flair. We had 4 in our party, 2 of whom elected to share a meal. Everyone enjoyed their choices, and the entree was sufficient for the two who elected to share. Wait staff was energetic and accommodating.
Good foods but little salty. The view is excellent.
We eat at Duke's a lot and love the food. The atmosphere is fun and noisy. They are very welcoming to our 8# Therapy Dog and that makes it a must for our dining out pleasure. Their fish dishes are wonderful and the only disappointing thing is that they have stopped making Malasadas (my favorite).
Our server and the food were good however, despite having a reservation for 7 pm we were not seated until 7.35 pm. We would have been happy to sit at the bar however there were no seats available and, as one of our party walks with a cane and can't stand for long periods, we wended sitting on the bench at the entrance. After about 25 mins one of the barmen asked if we would like to order drinks and he would bring them over to us. ......... a nice gesture but a little awkward to be sitting in the main thoroughfare just holding drinks (as there were no tables).
We were celebrating a birthday so the cake and cake were lovely considerations. Would like to try again sometime but think it better suiite dto lunch or happy hour.
I know all the Dukes restaurants has their own executive chef but the Dukes in La Jolla had disappointed me. Compare to other Dukes, this lack a few items. No bread was served. Each fish dish was only made specific for each type of meal prep. For example, the swordfish is only made with the Mac Nut and Parmesean Crust and the mahi mahi was only made for the Dukes style whereas the other Duke Locations, allows the guest to change the recipe of the fish dishes. Also the cocktail drink that we had was different than the other Dukes. Although our waiter was attentive to us, the crew members at other Dukes are more personal to the guest.
Beautiful views, great view and delicious meal
A great view of the ocean and coast. Food is great.
Fantastic food as always
Wide menu selection with a wonderful view and ambiance. The spare ribs were fall-off-the-bone delicious as was the coconut shrimp appetizer. Make sure you leave room for dessert - the macadamia nut ice cream was quite good - definitely a shareable dessert for 2-3 people.
Treated us well for a special birthday celebration. We were seated along the glass wall overlooking the ocean. What a site...even for natives like us. Split a number of entrees and all were very good. Ended with Hula Pie which was truly the "icing on the pie".
It was our anniversary. They gave us a card. Our food was good - we had an issue with one of th entrees but the manager came over and they corrected the problem - and gave us one of the entrees for free. They also gave us a dessert to celebrate our anniversary which was very nice!
My girlfriends and I celebrated our birthday brunch here and it's beautiful! Modern, sophisticated restaurant with an awesome oceanfront view! Our waitress was very friendly and very accommodating. Can't wait to come back soon!
We went there for my birthday to have breakfast and it was amazing! The service was perfect, the food tasty and the view is awesome! Definitely would recommend this place.
We LOVE Duke's in Kauai, so were super excited to find one while on vacation in CA. Drinks were good, black bean nachos were amazing, but the fish tacos weren't as good as the ones in Kauai. Still great service.
My wife and I went to Duke's to celebrate our 41st anniversary. I noted that on Open Table. When we arrived we were greeted with "Happy Anniversary" and there was a hand written card on your table. We had a wonderful meal and rather than bring out a dessert menu, our server told us that we had a complimentary hula pie (their signature dessert) coming to help celebrate the occasion.
We'll return again soon.
We stumbled on this location. Our trolley tour guide was driving through the La Jolla Cove area and shared Duke's was within walking distance. We were excited to return to Duke's. We frequented the Waikiki location a few years ago. Our server, Kamalika was wonderful! She answered our questions, engaged in casual interest of our being there and was very personable!
My Loco Moco plate was delicious. We also enjoyed the Crab Wontons. My husband's hamburger was overdone for being medium-well and also did not include cheese that was to come with his order. Kamalika was apologetic for his dish errors and offered a complimentary ice cream pie. It was our first time ordering a dessert....it was SO good!
We loved the views from their patio! It was great food and an amazing location. We highly recommend Duke's :)
Food was just okay. Service was slow. Medium filet was served rare. Beautiful restaurant with great water view, but I will not be returning.
Excellent staff from hostess to waitress to servers. Tasty food and great view of La Jolla cove. Hula pie is always fun.
Service way to fast. They brought out the main course while we were still eating our salads. And just piled the food on top of us. I told the waitress to take the food away and have the kitchen slow there roll. We got there at 7 and the main course was served at 7:20 REALLY!
Wonderful experience! Our server was relaxed, but on top of everything we needed and awesome! I had the ribs and chicken combo lunch. I didn't like the chicken, but the ribs were delicious! I had hula pie for dessert and it was to die for!!! Can't wait to go back again for another amazing experience!
Love the view and service and the fresh fish choices!
Nice lively waterfront dining. Had the miso salmon which was done perfectly. Have to have the key lime pie. Server was fun and provided timely service.
Really great service and ambiance. Food was good but not great for the price. But the experience was excellent and I would come back again.
I have dined at Duke's many times as well as Jakes. We were all very disappointed in our meals. The fries were cold, the tortilla chips were stale, and the fish in the sandwich was tiny. The Mai Tai's were as good as always.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Duke’s. It was very nice. Great view of the Cove and our server was attentive and friendly.
Dukes was wonderful. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive. Our food came out as ordered and HOT.
When we vacation we go to Duke’s in Maui. The menu is different and so is the scenic view but BOTH of these restaurants are 5 ⭐️
Great food and ambiance!! Would be a regular restaurant if we lived in San Diego !!!
We brought our daughter and future son-in-law, they were getting married in a week, to celebrate with them. I requested a view table - had made a reservation over a week in advance - and were seated in the center on the room. I chose this restaurant because of an article in the Tribune listing the best view dining. It did look lovely if you could have had one of the tables on the edge of the patio. It was quite loud and our only view was a beautiful picture on the wall and the other patrons.
Our food was good and our service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and offered good suggestions for us. I was just disappointed that we had planned on a special dinner with our kids and were stuck in the center of a large and loud room.
We had a group of 7 and could not be seated outside. Instead we were seated at a table that was set for 10 across from a family with two small children who were not behaving. To say it was noisy and impossible to have a group conversation is an understatement. Then two of us ordered steaks -- medium rare, and they arrived well done. The restaurant agreed they were prepared incorrectly and credited them to us.
Ambiance is beautiful. Food is nothing to rave about but you come here for the views. Servers should know the fish of the day without having to look into a notepad. Took 15 min to get a juice for my daughter as the server forgot about it. Nonetheless, we will go back for the views and hula pie.
