Chef Fernardo Mackenzie joined the Donovan's team in November 2015.
He won the Culinary Achievement award along with several scholarships. Chef Fernando has won many gold medals in culinary completion across the nation and served on the board of directors for the American Culinary Foundation San Joaquin Chapter.

Chef Fernando has a very diverse cooking style with quality and consistency at the fore front. His high level of attention to detail and focus along with his dedication to his craft is something he strives to teach his employees constantly. This focus has a dramatic impact on the final product and the overall dining experience.

Jason was our head waiter and he was great but the service as our food was GOD awful. Over 3 hours and we got there at 430 when they opened. Order two seafood platters and would NEVER recommend the North Atlantic salmon. I am catholic and follow the no meet on Friday which I usually get the Australian rack of lambs which are amazing and highly recommend but didn’t have them this time. My girlfriend and I had a movie reservation at 715 at THE LOT in LA JOLLA and were late when we were seated at Donavan’s at 430. THIS PLACE IS ALWAYS HIT OR MISS

Visiting my son who now calls San Diego home. I had not been to the SD area in 10 years, but I remembered Donovan’s and it was my first pick to take he and his girlfriend out for dinner. Great atmosphere! We will be back.

The food and service were first rate. What a great setting. The food and service compliment the setting wonderfully. Highly recommended. Value? The food prices are fine for what it is. The wine prices are “full” and then some. Still, I highly recommend it.

Definitely $$, but can't beat the quality and the service. Best in San Diego as far as I know. So its great for those special occasions to celebrate, honor or impress. Or if you have the money, every week.

It was a Valentine's dream dinner. We sat by the window with an ocean view and were treated like a King and his Queen. The service was outstanding. Our soup, salad and entrée was cooked to perfection. The tiramisu was a sweet way to end our meal with a nice hot cup of coffee. Loved it!

As usual, the food and service were supreme.
The ambiance, however, left a lot to be desired. The noise level was that of a frat party. We asked to be moved once which was accommodated as we were initially next to a large noisy group. The new seating area was an improvement, but there was a group in the middle of the room that was extremely loud and obnoxious. My wife was so upset that she ate less than half her meal. We could barely hear each other talk. People have no civility anymore, and we understand that Donovan’s is making a lot of money off these large groups. Consequently you are hesitant to ask them to tone it down for the benefit of your other guests. Our next task will be to find an equally nice restaurant closer to Oceanside that has a pleasant atmosphere conducive to a nice quiet dinner for two.

Great food and service. We were sat next to a large rather rowdy group of young homecoming kids but even that couldn't take too much away from the delicious food and cocktails

We enjoyed the food and location. When I made the reservation I requested a window table, which I understand is on a first come -first served basis. We were seated off to the side, not at the window but there was a window seat available. I heard other guests complaining about not being closer to the window. Just know that even if you request a window table, you're not going to get it. And in all fairness, they tell you that upfront. The filet was cooked perfectly but they could improve on the dessert. We had the tiramisu, nothing special.

Celebrated two Birthdays Sons and Husbands, food was great, service was great, it was a pleasant time all around. Will be back soon.
