The Pilot House Restaurant, located on the historic Delta King riverboat (permanently docked in Old Sacramento), has been one of our favorite restaurants for 10+ years. The food and service has always been excellent and it is also appropriately priced. I ordered the New York Steak with garlic mashed potatoes last night and it was perfectly cooked (ordered medium). My wife ordered Chilean Sea Bass, which was one of their two specials of the night, and she absolutely loved it. She had a cocktail (a Cosmo) and I had a nice glass of Zinfandel with dinner. There are two ramps, right next to each other, for getting onto the boat. The ramp on the left side goes to the restaurant and bar, while the ramp on the right side goes to the hotel rooms and theater. I encourage you to try the Pilot House Restaurant at least once, after which you will probably want to go back again--once, twice, or even several times a year.
Service was good. Kobe Burger was good. Swordfish and broccoli was overcooked and mashed potatoes were cold.
The steak was good. I think the hostess was very uninterested in anything or anybody. All she said was do you have a reservation, looking down at her tablet the entire time (long enough that I thought she couldn’t find the reservation) then said follow me. Not welcoming at all.
Reservation for prime rib Christmas day dinner. Initially led to a table up the stairs and in the bar rather than the dining room. Asked to be moved to dining room and although there were many empty tables, the hostess was adamant that the tables were being saved for large parties. We considered leaving, but first asked to talk to the manager who saved the day and gave us a nice table in the dining room. (Incidentally, the room remained less than half occupied during our meal....which was had at 4pm.) This is unprofessional planning in my opinion, but we were ultimately satisfied. The whole dinner was good. I never got the wine I ordered to accompany my prime rib. Waiter apologized explaining there was only one bartender (really?). This was not a deal breaker in any rate. Finally, there was an errant fork under my seat along with bits of dropped salad. I guess this happens at a busy spot. In summary, I am glad we dined there once.
The service was excellent. The lights on the river and views were gorgeous. The accompanying Old Town Sacramento lights and festivities were enjoyable. The wine was excellent. The food was tasty. The steaks were flavorful and tender.
Friendly staff, delicious food
Very enjoyable. Food delicious.
But not very hot. But overall was a very nice experience.
Quick service and courteous waiters. Will visit again.
We had a lovely lunch. Ship was decorated for Christmas and very festive.
We will be back.
We waited 45 minutes for our food before they told us we ordered off the wrong menu, them they forgot one of our orders. So we were there for almost 2 hours. Food was ok. But not worth the wait.
The food was very good. I made my reservation months before since it is my wife's birthday. Aaron completely ignored my wife's birthday even though the hostesses knew all about it since I noted it on my original reservation request and they wished her a happy birthday when we arrived. After dinner was over, I expected something, at least a candle. But there was nothing. My wife was a real "sport" about it, but it broke my heart. The dinner out was the only thing I could afford this year for her birthday. We told the hostess as we left, and she told us to go back to the table, but the damage was done, the opportunity for a surprise candle or something was gone, so we thanked her and left (hoping the hostesses would make sure to tell the waiter in the future, which I thought would be done since they wished my wife a happy birthday when we arrived). At our age, we just don't know how many more birthdays we will be able to celebrate at a restaurant.
The food was good and the service was excellent. However for some reason we were seated in the bar even though there were tables available in the main dining area. It was a bit noisy and took away the ambience of having a quiet dinner.
I made the reservation for the Pilothouse Restaurant. We got there and the hostess tells us that our table is upstairs in the bar and grille. 1 strike. We are sitting there and the bartender is getting mad, while talking to some people at the bar, about Covid stuff. And we had to be subjected to his loud discussion. Strike 2. Then, it’s cold out mind you, the cold air comes on. Strike 3. And every time someone went out the door it would slam shut. Strike 4
My Aunt was visiting from out of town and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. It was refreshing and a joy to watch staff and management who truly seemed to be enjoying their work and interacting with the customers. My Aunt was pleased that she found a place that actually knew how to properly serve hot tea, and both the burger and the chicken club were delicious, along with some really tasty French fries.
Undercooked chicken, overpriced considering preparation.
Quit, nice dinner environment. Food was wonderful and the staff was very sweet and attentive. Service was slow due to new staff but it nice to just sit and enjoy the river view so we didn’t mind at all.
Wonderful ambience. Food preparation was inconsistent, specific instructions not followed. Nevertheless, the overall dining experience was very pleasant.
Nice historical spot. Good food good service. They definitely need some music piped in. Too quiet you can hear other people’s conversations and footsteps
My date and I had a great time! Service was great food was probably 4 out of 5! Bread was delicious! Pricing was a little on the higher side but to be expected. Definitely enjoyed it.
Very nice experience! Beautiful ambiance. It was a Friday night, so there was a live band upstairs in the saloon. A little bit noisy, but understandable. Great service.
Food was good, salmon was slightly over cooked though. Veggies, potatoes were simple but good. I though it was overpriced for what you received but you are also paying for the ambience. That being said I stayed at the hotel and would go back again! ⚓️👍😊
thought I was getting chicken breast got chicken with bones in it. The waitress should have told me it had bones. It was very bland tasting. The menu needs to elaborate on the boned chicken. Everything else was fine. Desert was awesome
Great ambiance. Menu kept being reprinted to remove items no longer available. No coordination that kitchen could provide ingredients for dishes. For instance, chard not included with chicken. Food not hot. Two burgers - one medium and one medium well were not given to the correct person. Caesar salad was over-dressed. Nice mango sorbet. Waiter tried his best to accommodate shortfalls and was helpful.
Jacob the Bartender did a great job and was very personable.
Loved the ambience. No other ambience in Sacramento can top this unless maybe an outdoor rooftop type of vibe. But even then this absolutely incredible vibes and views of the water. Feels like Im in titanic minus the iceberg. Service was good but I noticed things took long even though there were barely any guests in the same room as us. The only big complaint I have is that salmon. My ladies' salmon was raw on the inside and tasted like plastic. We were too embarrassed to bring it back so we just didnt eat it anymore. Was sad there was no ribeye so I tried the pork chop with bacon jam and it was AMAZING! loved it. Love going to this place but not sure if I'll ever come back anymore because the salmon was really that disappointing and it was my girlfriend's birthday as well. I wish it would have been my food that was the messed up one.
Great service, above and beyond.
Our waiter was Aaron
Interesting place to dine, on a riverboat right on the Sacramento River
Came to celebrate my man’s birthday. Everything was great except the food. I ordered the lemon chicken, was completely unseasoned mashed potatoes were meh. My guy ordered the rainbow trout served over a risotto - he says risotto was undercooked and the veggies in it were still hard from being frozen. There was 1 guest eating dinner when we arrived so not sure what happened in the kitchen since it was a slow day. I felt really bad since I chose this restaurant, was better off cooking at home. I believe we only waited 20 min, risotto takes longer and my chicken could’ve been in the oven a bit longer with seasonings added.
Great service. Great food.
Wife and I went there for a dinner date. Food is exceptional especially the ribs and pork chops. We like that they constantly change their menu with new dishes. Highly recommend the lemon cake with raspberry sauce, delightful!
Food was really good. Waitress was great. Staff was good.
Good food for price. Great service. Nice atmosphere.
Lovely to sit outside and near the water! The chicken sandwich was so delicious (fries were not that great). Staff was super friendly. We had to wait a bit for our check but it was not a problem. Great experience overall and will definitely return!
We are staying at the hotel and decided to make it easy and have dinner at the on-site restaurant. The menu looked good and the atmosphere was very nice. My wife’s dinner, the Mahi Mahi was very good. My dinner, no the other hand was not. I ordered the New York Strip, medium. The steak was on its way to well done, not a shred of pink anywhere on the inside and the mashed potatoes were barely warm. I sent the steak and potatoes back and the replacement was marginally better. The steak was more medium, although still a bit more done than any other medium steak I typically receive. And the mashed potatoes … still barely warm!
Topping things off was their wine menu. Two of the bottles I asked for were not available due to the menu being in the middle of a change over. With the menus these days being paper, it is a stupid simple solution to fix things like that — reprint the menu. If nothing else, add a note indicating that something may not be available due to the change over. In the end, the one of the only bottles left that I was remotely familiar with and felt okay ordering at this point was also 30% more than the highest priced bottle I originally wanted. In total, my steak dinner and the extra price for the wine was nearly 1/3 the cost of the entire meal.
If you eat here, stick with the fish, maybe the pork, and bring your own wine.
Others have mentioned slow service and service was slow. Most of that I chalk up to the Covid times, with places unable to hire staff, but the wait times here went beyond that. Also, as others have mentioned, the boats on the water do blast their stereos. This is, of course, outside the control of the restaurant, but it is worth noting.
Always enjoy the Pilothouse dining. Fish and chips is our favorite and was not disappointed once again. Staff in the p;ilothouse was wonderful!!!
The restaurant is on an old river boat on the waterfront, so promises some old fashioned charm and ambience. But, there is actually more of a party atmosphere because the river and surrounding area are extremely noisy with loud boats constantly riding back and forth with their music blaring on the river, and people on shore also roaming around with their own personal music constantly blaring. Odd unpleasant smells can also come from the river and wharf area. The food was fine, adequate, a little too heavy with the salad dressing on the salads (so get it on the side) and I question why put olives on salmon? The salmon without the olives was cooked nicely. An update of their wine list to remove selections they no longer carry would also be nice.
The Delta King was lovely. We had a beautiful window table overlooking the water. The white linened dining room was like stepping back in time. The woodwork and staircase on this steamboat have been beautifully restored. The staff was exceptionally accommodating and friendly. The food was excellent! We would definitely return.
The Pilot House restaurant was enjoyable. The food was very good and they had a small but excellent menu.
First, I reserved for the pilot house restaurant and they seated us at the cafe upstairs. Secondly once we ordered the waitress kept coming back to tell me they were sold out of things. I ended up paying for a mediocre salmon with lettuce. The whole vibe of the people working there was just bad. If they don’t want to serve dinner that late they should stop making the reservations at a certain time. My partner and I felt rushed. It was just overall a bad experience.
This place was very lovely on the inside, but the outside seating wasn't as great. On a Saturday night, you will see a lot of riverboats run by blasting music very loud. It was distracting, but the view of the river is nice. However, the salmon and calamari was ok, definitely recommend the pork chop instead. The heirloom tomato salad was not great either, but they have a full bar. I would recommend a lunch instead of a dinner. Fish and chips seemed to be everyone's favorite. It is definitely a place in Sacramento you should try at least once
