- DDeeVIPChicago / Illinois •47 reviews5.0Dined on Apr 30, 2025We had a lovely evening at Trenasse. And, TBH, we were a little hesitant to go there. It is housed in a hotel, though not affiliated with the hotel, and we feared a "hotel restaurant" experience. Even as we sat down and viewed the other diners, we felt those concerns were confirmed. Boy were we wrong! First, Bailey was a tremendous server. Kind. Attentive without being annoying. Knowledgeable. Great interpersonal skills. Really enjoyed her! And the other staff were equally impressive. Overall, just a great team. AND the food was outstanding! We started with the Oysters Gratin...so good. We could have just had a few orders of those and been perfectly happy. Then we tried the gumbo and the blue crab bisque. They were very good, though we did note they seemed just a touch watery. I attributed that to the early evening time during which we dined and that it was a hot day...who was ordering soup. I imagine if it had simmered a bit more and cooked off some of that water it would have been divine! Then we got the sampler plate: shrimp and grits; crawfish pie; and the trout. It was all so good...even better than we expected. I'm a so-so fan of fish and really liked that. The pie was a new dish for us and we both loved it. But the winner was the shrimp & grits...hands down! the corn base of the grits was just really good. Finally, we ended our meal with the bread pudding...it was sooo delicious! P.S. I enjoyed the Blackberry Bramble cocktail and the rose bubbles. Also perfect choices. Thanks for a great evening, Trenasse!More infoTrenassePrice: Expensive• Seafood• Central Business District•4.5
