The tables are thoughtfully spaced, allowing for private conversations without feeling overheard. We especially appreciated the excellent service, which was attentive at just the right moments without being intrusive. The food, from taste to presentation and temperature, was overall very good. For starters, the steak tartare was a hit with our daughter, and our son thoroughly enjoyed the scallops tiradito. The oysters were meaty and perfectly complemented by their sauces, and the artisan rustic bread was delightfully warm and fluffy. Our entrees continued to impress. The Branzino was cooked perfectly, and while the Japanese Wagyu (6 oz) was very tasty, 4 oz would likely be sufficient. Both bife ancho (boneless ribeye steaks) were cooked to our requested medium-rare and were very flavorful, though one was noticeably more tender than the other. The pepper sauce we chose could have had a stronger pepper kick. Overall, all our dishes were very tasty and excellently prepared. The side dishes—mushroom and potato gratin, charred broccolini, and humita—were equally outstanding. Our only disappointment came with dessert. We tried the Napoleon and a chocolate dessert (whose name we've forgotten!), but these selections simply didn't measure up to the high quality of the starters and entrees. Their texture was on the dry side, and we felt they would have been much more enjoyable with a softer consistency. Despite the dessert hiccup, Piedra Santa SD provided a memorable dining experience for our family of four. We'd highly recommend it for its ambiance, service, and delicious savory dishes.More infoPiedra Santa SDPrice: Very Expensive• Steakhouse• La Mesa•4.5

We did the sweetheart dinner ($95 for two people) and everything we had was an explosion of interesting flavor and melt in your mouth goodness. We're definitely going down to San Diego solely for this spot again!More infoTahona BarPrice: Moderate• Mexican• Old Town•4.7

- DDebraVIPSan Diego •106 reviews4.0Dined on May 15, 2025It was early in the evening, so the place was mostly empty, and there was only one server. The man who seated us was efficient, pleasant, and helpful. The server was pleasant, but lost interest in us and serving us our drinks when she saw friends come in and sit at the bar. Then their order took precedence ( despite our order being placed before they walked in). The drinks were good, and the food was good except it was served missing salsa, or other sauces/toppings, (or the toppings were shriveled up, like whatever that was on top of my quesadilla- I couldn’t tell, but it looked old and unappetizing) which we had to ask for, but finding her to add the missing elements was difficult if not impossible… so the food sat there waiting for the missing garnishes. The food was not even served hot, simply lukewarm, as it is at many restaurants-though we were warned not to touch the “hot plate”—which was warm, not hot… and as we searched for the server to add whatever was missing before starting to eat, the food continued to cool. All in all, an OK, but not outstanding experience. Maybe we will try to come back again and give it another chance, because the menu had multiple vegetarian options, and was interesting.More infoBarrio StarPrice: Moderate• Mexican• Banker's Hill•4.6
