Best American Restaurants in Kawaihae

Beautiful open air covered restaurant with a nice island and ocean view. My Caesar salad with Spanish anchovies was excellent and plentiful ($25). My tuna steak entree consisted of 4 or 5 small slices of tuna that were excellent. However, in my opinion it was an appetizer portion vs an entree for $48. Service was very courteous and attentive.

Basic food, but as expected. Unpretentious and relaxed. Waitress was a sweetheart but had too many tables! And the beach and sunset view is to die for!

Everything was great. The table was nice. It was really busy when we got seated so it was a few minutes before the server came but we had water and menus. The scallop slider appetizer was delicious. My other half had the Chilean Sea Bass and enjoyed it a lot. I had Wagyu ribeye which was great but not epic for my first Wagyu experience. I can say it tasted clean, but perhaps such greater nuances are lost on my palate. The chocolate dessert we took home was also delicious. We would have had it there but our son was ready to leave. I would say that it would have been nice for them.tonhave carried a hard seltzer or cider, either on tap or in the bottle, and there are great local options here. For someone like me who isn't really a beer/wine/cocktail drinker, it's a nice and fun option. Although they did have an ample mocktail menu! We live here and we'll definitely go again.

Superb Sevice. Everyone is friendly, kind, attentive. Great attention to detail. Everyone at the table served at the same time. Napkins folded if you leave the table. Food is outstanding in preparation. Wonderful mix of flavors and textures. The Mushroom Bisque was heavenly. Lamb preparation innovative. Macadamia crusted fish..so moist and flavorable. We Love Merriman’s Always visit their multiple locations when in Hawaii. And those Macadamia Shortbread cookies!!!

What a serene setting and exquisite experience! My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed each item we ate, and drank. The salads were so fresh and profiteroles decadent. The music and hula at sunset were the perfect touch. Total bliss! 10 stars !
