Jordan and the Bartending staff was amazing. I will definitely go back next time I am in San Diego.
What a great experience!! Everyone was so warm and welcoming, from the hostess who greeted us, to our server, and everyone else on staff. Our server was so fun and made us feel right at home. And the food! It was sublime. Cucina Urbana is the best restaurant in San Diego. I take all my out of town guests there, and they always love it.
Absolutely amazing food, ambience, service ! A great place to go for any occasion.
Restaurant week excellent menu
This is probably one of the worst dining experiences I've had in San Diego. Not only did we wait for over 25 minutes for someone to greet our table, but a second server who was helping us because our server was "busy" also recommended a bottle in our price range which we communicated was $50 and then it ended up being $27 more than what they told us upon receiving the bill and THEN the manager negotiated it down to still be $3 more than what they originally quoted us. We participated in SDRW and waited over 25 minutes for each course. Our reservation was 7:30 pm and we left just after 10 pm. I'm all for a leisurely dinner but, we simply felt forgotten. Our server never greeted us or mentioned anything about the menu - a literal "Did you decide?" and never came back to check on us or see how we enjoyed the food from the time we sat down until we left. We saw our server happily engaging with other tables so it felt really odd. At the end, when we checked the bill he said they would fix the wine pricing mixup if they were able to talk to the other server who had recommended our wine earlier. I've only had good experiences up until now at Cucina Urbana but, perhaps there has been a decline in service since. I think this may have been my last visit.
Stuffed squash blossoms were out of this world!! Pasta was amazing as usual. The best part of the night was the staff. We were well cared for by all!
I dined with friends before theater at the Old Globe, during Restaurant Week. Our server was terrific and alerted us that the kitchen was very busy. She made sure our orders went in quickly, kept us updated on the status, and checked back with us. She was terrific in every way. I had the lamb ragu pasta which was excellent.
Service was terrible tonight.
Fun dining experience and very professional staff. Just too noisy to enjoy a conversation over dinner.
Always first rate service and perfectly prepared and thought out dishes.
High end but at reasonable price pointe. All food great. Great for date, special occasion, business meeting. Varied menu So
Something for everyone
Food and drinks were all really good. We had the roasted red pepper hummus which and beef carpaccio as appetizers. They were both fantastic and plenty for 4 people to share. Entrees were a couple pizzas and the crab ravioli. One of the pizzas was lamb, which was fine but not something we'd order again just on a taste preference (and we like lamb). It wasn't spicy enough.
Becky was great! Grace under pressure when dealing with a difficult table next to ours, and super-attentive throughout the entire experience! Food was fabulous, as always - though disappointed that the described "hot smoked salmon" was in-fact COLD "hot-smoked" salmon, and not really a spread at all, but a bowl full of creamed cheese and little bits of salmon. The first unsatisfactory dish I've had there in over 10 years of dining on every visit to San Diego. I guess we all have a miss every once in a while! Over-all 4.5 ☆ Thanks for a great anniversary dinner!
Excellent food, drinks and great friendly helpful service. Highly recommended!
Family dinner to send my daughter off to study abroad. It’s the whole families favorite!
We've been here at least 4 times over the past 2 years and have always enjoyed it! The food and service is outstanding, plus it's just 1 block from Balboa park. So, it you're visiting the zoo or museums it's a short walk away. I love their burnt brussel sprouts, charred cauliflower, and giant meatball. The pizzas are excellent and made in true neopolitan style - in a wood oven with excellent crusts. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. Quite a consistently delightful restaurant!
Good food and must go. However portions are small in pasta. Pizzas are fairly nice.
Great find in a great neighborhood. Food and service were fabulous!
Way too noisy. I return for excellent food!
Seating good at tables. Uncomfortable on stools- I was very fortunate to add one to our party , and still find a table.
Great dinner option for a show at the balboa. Valet and walk over and pick up your car after the show. Awesome plant based options as well as delicious seafood and humongous steaks for carnivores. Exceptional service from our waitress who knew we were running late for the show! Thank you!!
Great venue for a business lunch. Food is great. Service is attentive but not annoying.
My friends kept feeling me to try this place and now I’m mad at myself for waiting so long! If you want homemade pasta with amazing flavor, come here! The food and service were amazing and the ambiance is perfect for any occasion. Can’t wait to go back. I had the bucatini - to me, it’s a twist on carbona, not SO much better. Would definitely order again!
Had the meatball, must try.
We ordered the Octopus appetizer that was amazing! The pappardelle pasta was steaming hot cooked perfectly and the rib meat melts in your mouth. The ribeye is enormous and was cooked perfectly so delicious!
Our server was so friendly and full of energy, she was absolutely lovely! Definitely recommend Cucina!!
I love going here! I realized that I'm more about the appetizers and small plates than a meal. We had liver pate and beef carpaccio, which were amazing. Then we ordered pear and gorgonzola pizza, which I switched it up a little by getting mozzarella cheese instead of gorgonzola and red sauce instead of buschemel. It was ok, I realized they forgot the red sauce, but we didn't tell the waiter. When he wrapped up the rest of our pizza he realized the red sauce was missing and told us he was comping us for the pizza. That was definitely above and beyond for a waiter and we really appreciated that. I will definintely go back, but I will probably just stick to appetizers.
Celebrated hubby’s birthday & hit happy hour. Loved our meal and ambiance was perfect. Loved checking out the wines too!
The staff worked hard to accommodate a late change in our registration and I really appreciated it. The meal was l perfect.
Amazing service and all around deliciousness. We ordered the burrata salad and 2 pizzas between 3 people. Great flavors, spaced perfectly. Fabulous wine list (ask your server for recommendations) and awesome desserts. When in doubt: tiramisu!
Obviously a Saturday evening dinner was probably the busiest time for the restaurant. It was full to capacity and very loud, so we were not able to enjoy much of a conversation with each other. Our waiter was very patient and helpful. The potato gnocchi was a bit too salty, but the squash blossoms were excellent. My husband enjoyed his pizza, as did others in the party.
Amazing as always! CUCINA urbana always brings great food, service and ambiance.
Great evening with friends and family. You can never go wrong when choosing to dine at cucina urbana. This is our families go to place. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Fun and friendly. Food is good, some creative items. Service is attentive and just right. Wine list is impressive and you can find some really good deals on it. The noise level is a bit high and it’s hard to talk, but overall very nice !
Overall, all the food was delicious. However, our server was extremely rude and made zero attempt to accommodate one person at our table who had a dairy allergy (even though we called multiple times prior to our reservation to ensure that modifications could be made for the one person that couldn't have dairy - which the staff had confirmed). We went on NYE so the restaurant only offered a pre-fix menu and again, while everyone else did enjoy all the courses, it was super disappointing how our server couldn't have cared less about the dairy allergy and whether or not everyone at the table was happy with the meal/experience. Especially considering the cost per person.
Great food and service during NYE dinner! Our waiter Lynn knew the pre-fix dinner menu as well as the wines in great detail and made our NYE dinner very easy going! Happy New Year!
We enjoyed a 4 course limited choice menu dinner for New Year’s Eve 2019. Every course (pictured is the ravioli appetizer) and every bite was absolutely delicious. Our waitress, Lynn, was the best. She was friendly, knew her menu well, was attentive but didn’t hover. She also has a great sense of humor. The wine pairing she suggested to go with the lobster risotto matched well with the food. It’s a restaurant well worth visiting any time you are in San Diego.
Passing through Little Italy? Don’t pass up the opportunity to eat here! We booked for New Year’s eve and we were thrilled! What an absolutely gorgeous restaurant with authentic Italian taste! We have been to many parts of Italy and the flavors brought back fond memories.
We had lobster and crab infused with pasta and appetizers, the latte was excellent. The ambience and the service was fantastic! Modern Italy - satisfying all five senses!
It’s been 4 years since I’ve been here, the quality of food and service has diminished quite a bit. Unfortunate, was a staple restaurant in San Diego for so long.
Great food! Very tasty.
